Chapter 127

The character in the position of heading the association that governs Supernatural Ability Users is someone else, but Iska, Erica’s older sister, is known as the Black Reaper within the association, wielding immense influence.

The more people knew the specific type of power she possessed and the incident that led her to her position, the more they realized the danger she posed. There were those who tried to expel her from her place, but it was never an easy task.

Though such a classification system for Ability Users does not officially exist, there is a secret system used by the nation where she would rank as top-tier. Still, she was far stronger than the failed revolutionary from Busan who had once been classified the same.

So much so that the revolutionary’s demise was credited to the same Black Reaper.

Because her strength was so widely recognized, even when it came to the incident she caused before joining the association, the nation tried desperately to recruit Eun-gwang, the person who stopped it.

Should an entity like the Black Reaper cross their boundaries, someone capable of standing against them must be found. However, all such attempts ended in failure.

Whenever someone used their supernatural ability to locate Eun-gwang, their efforts would fail as though blocked. When direct witnesses to Eun-gwang were asked about it, any mention of Eun-gwang would result in a sound like static instead of words.

Only those familiar with Eun-gwang could exchange relevant information. Those who did not know Eun-gwang might hear tales about their exploits but would never uncover their true identity.

Still, it would be inaccurate to say that the nation failed to gather any information on Eun-gwang. They at least managed to learn that Eun-gwang lived in a certain area and was a student.

The existence of a student with tremendous power astonished even people like Erica’s sister, living in the age of Supernatural Ability Users, but even this revelation did not deter the government from acting.

It was not difficult for a nation to repurpose a school in the region to find and recruit Eun-gwang.

They gathered students suspected to be Supernatural Ability Users into one location. Then, they positioned the younger sister of the Black Reaper—whose hostility towards Eun-gwang had been established through prior incident—inside the school to compel Eun-gwang to reveal themselves.

It was a perfect plan. Or so they thought.

No one anticipated that Eun-gwang might calmly tolerate the presence of the Black Reaper’s younger sister and simply proceed with their student life. Nor did they expect that the Black Reaper’s younger sister would behave so modestly.

If Eun-gwang were in the final year of high school and soon exited the educational system after the summer break, it would undermine the rushed establishment of the school. It would also eliminate any future means of countering the Reaper from the association.

As a result, they had no choice but to implement a fallback strategy. Should Eun-gwang refuse to confront the Black Reaper, they planned to make their younger sister commit a wrongful act, forcing the Reaper to fail to protect her.

Through manipulating and turning a blind eye to the school’s atmosphere using teachers under their control, they aimed to provoke trouble for the girl, something entirely feasible for a nation’s governmental agency. Additionally, they managed to block the enthusiastic teachers from overhearing anything about the scheming.

As this plan unfolded and the girl endured increasing harassment, the agent who orchestrated it reflected bitterly on her unexpectedly aggressive and cautious behavior.

How ironic, the agent thought, as her adopted younger sister detached someone’s arm in an aggressive act deemed too extreme for an ordinary morning on the way to school. The witnesses they had intended to provoke, however, did not show up as expected.

The agent’s dismay stemmed from realizing the girl’s cautious nature. They thought, “Could she use strings of some sort?”

When others approached within a certain boundary, the girl appeared to manipulate them through some unseen string-like phenomenon—ensuring that no one remained who could potentially witness and interfere in the situation. Despite all suppression devices being activated, she still managed to maintain her secrecy using these strings.

If this incident were not immediately exposed, the Black Reaper might cover it up, just like others they had done. Although it was known that Supernatural Ability Users do not break rules like m*rder…

The anticipated catastrophic bleeding from the victims stopped abruptly as strands of silver light flashed at the torn limbs, halting the bl**d flow.

The agent found the girl’s silver strings oddly helpful, raising numerous suspicions. Could she be the victim of repeated attacks from a Doll Maker? Or perhaps she was the Doll Maker herself?

If she had devised and executed this situation intentionally, could she indeed be the Black Reaper’s younger sister?

As the suited gentleman hiding in the vicinity contemplated these questions, he sensed an imposing gaze coming from above.

It wasn’t the Black Reaper’s sister who had been troubling him earlier. Instead, an unexpected woman stood on the wires above, glaring disapprovingly at him.

“Do you just now recognize me? I came immediately since I thought someone called me, but here the caller is incapacitated and the person responsible for orchestrating this is just standing by idly.”

How could a human withstand the electric currents of the power lines and remain standing?

The answer became clear when he noticed her feet shimmering with a faint green light, indicating that the electricity was being channeled elsewhere. She wasn’t truly standing; she was floating.

“Haha, those who have long studied such devices would be shocked to witness this scene. A girl who uses some sort of string to manipulate and isolate this area and a woman who appears to be standing on a wire but is actually levitating—it’s indeed absurd that this could happen while suppression devices are fully active.”

The gentleman’s hand paused mid-motion as he reached for the special handgun in his pocket, unable to continue on its own.

Not out of choice—it simply would not move. There was only one possible entity capable of this—.

The woman standing on the wires dropped beside him.

“I, for one, dislike killing. I dislike the screams people make when dying, and there’s no pleasure for me in killing. What most terrifies me is not that someone might have wronged me in my normal life, but that I might genuinely strike them dead out of hatred.”

The gentleman felt this woman far more formidable than the Reaper who lingered within the association.

He thought it appropriate that this was his end, for he had orchestrated this plan, using the lives of delinquents as bait. Now his life would be the next sacrifice.

His devices would relay the information to his allies, who would surely weaponize this woman’s story to defeat the Black Reaper. His d*ath would serve a greater purpose, becoming a leash to control her.

“But, to repay this girl, and to wrap up my own story, I think it’s time.”

The woman in a white t-shirt raised her hand, emitting a light that seemed both like a brilliant sun and a streak of blue lightning.

In an instant, the light pierced through his chest. Even though the movement was swift, she wiped the bl**d off her hand, knelt beside him, and whispered her final words.

“Oh, and by the way, if you thought that your phone or any bugging devices would leak out information, you’re mistaken. I used my control of electricity to disable these suppression devices, but surely you didn’t think I couldn’t?”

Whether the man died regretful or content with his plan, the woman would never know.

Her only concern was preventing the girl gone mad from tearing off more limbs.

After cleaning up this potential threat, as she glanced between the splatter of bl**d on her t-shirt and the chaos caused by the girl, she sighed.

Suddenly, the skies darkened even though her eyes hadn’t closed. Some might think it was an eclipse or a cloud covering the sun, but for the woman who had once taught Erica the name Iska, the darkened skies meant that one of the calamities she had hoped to prevent had arrived.

“Erica, are you alright?”

This was a clear sign of a very real Reaper, not one draped in the mantle of protection but something far darker, standing before the girl.
