Chapter 1009: Then I Shall Become a Demon
These past days, the mountain and wilderness remained quite stable and peaceful, with the only turbulence stemming from the quarrels among Ruo’er and her companions.
Lin Nuo contemplated for a moment and felt that this was no place to stay for long.
Clearly, this was where the Crack of the Demon Realm had appeared, and there were bound to be hidden dangers. Who knew when the crack would open? At that point, they’d be the first wave of crabs to get caught!
Our dear Lin, the villain, couldn’t just turn into a Guardian of the Crack, staring at it day in and day out.
No way! He had plenty of other things to do!
Besides, if that crack opened wide and couldn’t be contained, then his group would be finished!
He had to distribute some of the mineral resources and take them to another location.
Finding a new place for the Fox People wasn’t an easy task. It had to be far from the noise of the common folk, and have plenty of resources to sustain their activities.
And let’s not forget the need to evade the Immortals who were hunting them down. After all, this group of Fox People had become a target, a thorn in the eyes of the Immortals.
“Master…”
Ruo’er tugged at Lin Nuo’s contemplative attire and said playfully.
“Hmm? Have you arranged things on your end?”
“Yep, Master. Are we leaving here now?”
“Yes, we’re leaving. As we grow in numbers, we have to live separately. Besides, this is where the Crack of the Demon Realm appeared. If it blows open, you’ll have to confront them directly. There’s no need for us to guard the human realm.”
“Hmm… true… I’ll follow Master’s command. Master, Ruo’er has a question for you.”
“Feel free to ask.” Lin Nuo replied flatly.
“Um… Master, actually that Fox Immortal…”
Ruo’er hesitated and stammered, unable to fully express herself.
“I know what you’re getting at. Do you really think you have a connection with her?”
“I… I don’t know… even if there’s a connection… so what, right? Master and my stepmother are the most important to me…”
Ruo’er continued to stammer. Although she said so, she still cared about that connection.
After all, she had never seen so many White Foxes, and now, there was an Immortal Fox who resembled her. It felt like there was some hidden relationship.
Lin Nuo didn’t allow them to acknowledge each other, but deep down, he was somewhat hesitant.
Because in this lifetime, his mindset had been gradually changing. He was no longer the cruel demon lord from his past.
Especially concerning family ties, he treated his mother well. Perhaps it was the love he lost in his previous life that he found again in this one.
Honestly, he thought about it; the more one tried to keep them apart, the more chances there would be for them to reunite.
This life was just like that; this wasn’t the first time such a thing had happened.
Moreover, the Fox People were very sensitive about bloodlines. Perhaps Ruo’er had already picked up on it, and it wouldn’t stay hidden for long.
“Actually, you still want to recognize your relatives, right?”
Lin Nuo looked down at Ruo’er seriously and asked.
“I… I don’t have… even if we don’t recognize, it’s fine…”
“You’re too easy to read; your words have already betrayed you.”
Lin Nuo patted Ruo’er’s head and continued,
“But you have to understand, since you chose to be with me, we’re not from the same faction as her. If you end up opposing your own family, it will cause you a lot of pain.”
“Pain? All I know is that if I can’t follow Master, I will be in pain. It’s fine. Ruo’er will follow Master’s arrangements…” Ruo’er said softly.
“Alright, I still need to clarify things, come here.”
Lin Nuo said, pulling Ruoer’s hand. Lately, the Fox Immortal, Ni Wanqing, had been lingering nearby. If it were anyone else, Lin Nuo would have likely dealt with them by now, but he hadn’t done so.
She always wanted to meet Lin Nuo, and then see Ruo’er, to meet this child who might belong to her.
But it had been a series of dead ends, and she almost got into a conflict with the Demon Practitioners.
Today was no different; Ni Wanqing still came to request an audience with Lin Nuo. The stationed Demon Practitioners were annoyed by this and would have attacked if Lin Nuo hadn’t ordered them to keep the peace.
“Our lord will not meet you; you should leave and stop being a nuisance here!”
One of the Demon Practitioners shouted angrily, exuding a strong Demon Qi in an attempt to intimidate Ni Wanqing, but she stood her ground, unafraid.
“It’s alright, I will still wait here.”
Ni Wanqing’s attitude remained firm.
“Heh, you Foxes really don’t know when to back down. Our lord isn’t killing you, and yet you keep pushing your luck!”
The Demon Practitioner shouted, but at that moment, Lin Nuo’s voice rang out:
“You all, step back.”
“Ma-Master Demon Ruler!”
The stationed Demon Practitioners rushed to salute, eager to welcome the Demon Ruler’s presence!
Ni Wanqing was flabbergasted, amazed that Lin Nuo was willing to see her.
And even more astonishing! He was actually holding Ruo’er’s hand!
Seeing Ruo’er again, Ni Wanqing was filled with excitement. That petite frame, snowy white fox fur, and sparkling eyes reminded her so much of her own childhood.
Yes, it was too much alike! She became more certain that this was her child!
“Child… child!”
Ni Wanqing was incredibly excited and wanted to rush over and hug Ruo’er, but Lin Nuo held out his hand to stop her.
“Wait a minute, step back a bit. Don’t overstep.”
“I…”
Ni Wanqing looked at Ruo’er, reluctantly stepping back. Without Lin Nuo’s command, she couldn’t stop.
“That’s enough.”
Once they had created some distance, Lin Nuo finally allowed her to pause. They weren’t far apart now, but if Ni Wanqing charged over, he could easily take Ruo’er away.
“I’ll put it this way: you are an Immortal now, while she is as well. But in the end, if you become a Demon, you will not be from the same faction. Even if you can confirm your relationship, it doesn’t change this fact.”
Lin Nuo said coldly, making things clear; he couldn’t really just hand her back to you.
“If that’s the case, then I shall become a Demon too.”
Ni Wanqing’s words startled Lin Nuo.
No way! Why would this Immortal casually talk about becoming a Demon? Isn’t that a huge taboo for you guys?
“You weren’t so casual before.” Lin Nuo remarked.
“Before I was uncertain. But seeing this child, I’ve figured it out. Even as Immortals, we are still hunted down by the Immortals. We live worse than Demons. And most importantly, when I see this child, all I want is to be with her. I don’t have much to cherish in this world, but this child gives me hope for life.”
Ni Wanqing spoke with tears in her eyes, not caring about whether she was an Immortal or a Demon. Being together was all that mattered!
That adorable little girl melted her heart just by looking at her.
“Ma-Master…”
Ruo’er gently tugged at Lin Nuo’s hand, her eyes filled with anticipation.
“Sigh, go ahead then.”
Lin Nuo released his hand, and Ruo’er began to step toward Ni Wanqing. Finally, the pair of White Fox mother and daughter embraced one another.
