Chapter 1028: The Brainless Protagonist Should Exit the Market!
Lin Nuo chastised Su Kexin with a tone full of disappointment.
“Exactly! It’s because you’re so reckless that I’m under such immense pressure! Exploding here and there—who can handle that?”
“Education needs to start from a young age. It’s time to teach you what it means to be cautious. You need to play it safe. Why rush into everything?”
“Damn it! It frustrates me! Villains are all biding their time, using their wits to gain the upper hand, yet here you are, the reckless protagonist, just leveling up at will.”
“The brainless protagonist should exit the market! Strictly crack down on Su Kexin!”
But Su Kexin remained stubborn, unable to fully agree with Lin Nuo and retorted:
“My dad teaches me to uphold a spirit of chivalry. We can’t always cower; we should stand up and fight. If we martial artists don’t take action, who will protect us?”
“Are you stupid? That’s just reckless, do you understand? You’re clearly weaker and still want to step in? If you get yourself killed, you’ll just hold everyone back. Do you think that’s honorable? Your so-called chivalric spirit is a tumor, learning bad habits at such a young age.”
“You saved me, and I’m grateful. But Dad is definitely right; you’re just a kid like me—how could you know better than him?”
“It’s impossible to communicate with you. Do as you like.”
Lin Nuo shook his head. Talking to her was like trying to convince a stubborn cow. With a father like hers, instilling such nonsense in her head was no surprise.
If she weren’t the protagonist, she’d be long gone, just like those before her.
Maybe Su Kexin would learn humility later on when Su Lingjiang was no longer around to lead her astray.
Lin Nuo decided not to waste any more time with her and turned to leave.
“Where are you guys going? I want to go down the mountain with you!” Su Kexin said.
“Where we go has nothing to do with you. If you want to follow, fine. By the way, what should I call you?”
“Call me whatever you want. You can even just say ‘hey.’ She doesn’t even remember who she is, no need to ask.”
Lin Nuo replied indifferently and started heading down the mountain. Although Su Kexin had been a bit proud, she admired powerful figures, so naturally, she wanted to follow Lin Nuo.
“Where did you learn your martial arts? How did you deal with that light? Can we spar a bit?”
“Not a chance. Don’t ask, I won’t tell you.”
Lin Nuo replied grumpily. There was no way he would explain things to this arrogant protagonist.
Su Kexin didn’t give up, bombarding him with questions, but Lin Nuo couldn’t be bothered to entertain her. He seriously contemplated just beating her up to make her shut up—the kid was way too annoying.
But he also didn’t dare to harm her; who knows if she’d blow up again and cause apocalyptic chaos?
They made it down the mountain smoothly, facing no obstacles since all the people and beasts were dead.
“My house is about five miles from here. Would you like to come over?” Su Kexin invited Lin Nuo and the little girl.
“Not going.”
“If big brother isn’t going, then I won’t go either.”
“Fine… okay, what a pity. I don’t even know who you are. I wonder if there will be another chance to meet you again.”
Su Kexin sighed.
“Better not run into you again.”
Lin Nuo stated bluntly. Who wants to bump into a villain harvesting souls like her?
Su Kexin had to head back alone, leaving Lin Nuo and an unknown little girl behind.
The little girl decided she wanted to stick with Lin Nuo, but he still had no idea what to do with her.
Should he just take her back to the Lin family?
No, he really didn’t want to.
“Big brother, where are we going now?”
The little girl asked Lin Nuo again, having asked many times already. Even though Lin Nuo told her to stop asking, her nature made it hard for her to keep quiet.
“First, let’s grab something to eat.”
Lin Nuo had scavenged quite a bit of wealth on the mountain, enough to last them for months.
They reached a small town not far down the mountain and found an inn to eat.
“Hey, did you hear? Everyone who went to Cangshan Forest is dead, and all the beasts in the woods are gone too. It’s terrifying!”
“The beasts are dead? Then we could easily find prey up there, right?”
“You still dare to go up? Aren’t you afraid of dying? Who knows what happened? What if you vanish like them? The government is going to seal the mountain and not let anyone in.”
“I just saw people from the Lin family go in there.”
“Sigh, what does the Lin family matter? They have money and power; who knows if that’s related to anything?”
……
Lin Nuo overheard many discussing the affairs of Cangshan Forest. So many went hunting, yet none returned alive. Some eventually discovered their bodies, causing widespread panic.
“Haha.”
Lin Nuo found it amusing—just a bunch of fools, always chattering away.
Whatever, just eat and enjoy the show.
“Big brother, I still don’t understand how those people died. Did they really breathe in too much air?”
“Or else? Do you have any other reason? Just eat your food and stop talking so much.”
Lin Nuo put some meat on the little girl’s plate, trying to silence her endless questions.
The atmosphere in this small town wasn’t great; they encountered some robbers on the street, with bullying prevalent.
But that was none of his business.
The dish was fragrant, but it still lacked something.
Without a drink to wash it down, it felt like their meal was missing a soul.
Unfortunately, Mu Yiting was still too young. Even if they met, she couldn’t cook; cold water wasn’t even available yet.
What he could make was soulless, but it was enough to get by.
Instead of letting the little girl mooch off him, he thought maybe he could teach her to cook so she’d be useful later on.
After finishing their meal, he planned to buy some ingredients and find a place to cook.
“Hey, kid, you’re eating pretty well.”
While Lin Nuo was enjoying his meal, two thugs approached, a knife slamming onto the table.
“New faces, huh? Outsiders, I get it. I’ll let you know that this place is under our control. If you want to eat in peace here, you owe us a protection fee. Otherwise, don’t blame us for being unkind.”
These two thugs were acting super arrogant, while the commoners in the restaurant could only watch, too afraid to say anything. They knew bullying the kids was wrong, but nobody dared to stand up for Lin Nuo and the little girl.
No one wanted to cause trouble.
“Big brother, this…”
The little girl looked at Lin Nuo fearfully.
“Ignore them; keep eating.” Lin Nuo said, unfazed.
“Hey! Kid, you really don’t take us seriously, huh? Fine, then hand over everything on you!”
The thug seethed with anger. How dare a little brat act so tough?
The knife-wielding man planned to capture Lin Nuo, threatening him with the knife to let him taste despair. However, Lin Nuo’s reflexes were quick as lightning; he dodged the man’s hand and snatched the knife, pointing it at the thug’s neck.
“Looking for death, huh?”
His cold tone and icy gaze sent a shiver down the thug’s spine.
