Chapter 1041: The Unconscious Girl by the River
After temporarily leaving Ruo’er and the others, Lin Nuo needed to address his hunger issue.
If anything happened, they would signal him, so it wasn’t a big problem. He couldn’t be expected to watch over them constantly; they weren’t conjoined twins.
After spending a long time with Ruo’er, Lin Nuo felt a bit lighter once he freed himself from her. Perhaps this was the joy of freedom.
As a man of the wind, he naturally yearned for liberty.
According to Ni Wanqing, the Fox People had compassion for the beasts in the mountains and rarely hunted them, which seemed a bit contradictory to the law of the jungle. Lin Nuo considered them hypocritical and insincere.
In reality, some Fox People did hunt other animals. During his patrols, Lin Nuo had seen some of them hunting weaker creatures and eating them raw, without even cooking.
When hunger struck, they could even consume their kind; the phenomenon of cannibalism wasn’t unheard of.
Today, he decided against hunting large beasts like tigers and wolves. Instead, he thought to catch a few rabbits to roast.
Ruo’er quite liked rabbits, so he couldn’t let her see the roasted ones, or she’d be crying.
Could such a benevolent little girl be completely virtuous and unable to become a demon?
Maybe, but that’s unlikely. Women like Liu Shuqin could also turn into demons, meaning the method was simply wrong.
Lin Nuo took a glance around but couldn’t find any cute, tasty white rabbits. So, he headed toward the foot of the mountain to look for targets. Naturally, places with water sources would attract animals.
He quickly descended the mountain and indeed spotted some active white rabbits. Good, he could catch a few for a meal.
He planned to use a technique that would instantly kill a rabbit unseen, but these rabbits were surprisingly agile; they seemed to sense his presence and quickly bolted away.
Yet, no matter how fast they were, they couldn’t outrun his technique. In the past, Mi Tian Chong could scare everything in the sky, and although the ground version was somewhat weaker, it could still take down most creatures.
Attack!
Lin Nuo unleashed his technique, hitting one of the white rabbits, which immediately fell over. Just as he moved to pick it up, something miraculous happened: the fallen rabbit got back on its feet and fled!
What is this? Resurrected?
This puzzled Lin Nuo. His technique shouldn’t be weak enough that it couldn’t kill a little rabbit, right?
Had his power diminished after sleeping two days?
Not really; he could still topple a mountain with full force!
Just as he was about to strike again, the rabbits found a small burrow and vanished into it.
These days, rabbits can burrow too?
What a mutated species!
As Lin Nuo considered investigating, he noticed a girl lying down by the river, her clothes soaked as if she had emerged from the water.
This river was not the one flowing from where Ruo’er temporarily dwelled; it came from somewhere else and merged with the mountain’s water to flow outward.
However, the river’s source was still unclear.
Let’s see whose flower girl this is; is she dead? If she’s dead, better hurry and toss her away to avoid polluting the river.
As Lin Nuo approached, he felt the girl looked somewhat familiar.
Wait? Is that her?!
My heavens, how did she end up here?
This scene seems eerily familiar, almost like a déjà vu!
Wasn’t that person her? Just at a different age!
Lin Nuo checked her pulse; it was slightly chaotic but she wasn’t dead—just unconscious.
What had she gone through?
For healing, he needed to find Ruo’er; she had her expertise in this. Lin Nuo was more skilled in assassination and strategy, not in healing.
Better take her back to Ruo’er for a proper check-up.
But…
He thought about everything from his dream. That girl, was she some demon realm princess? If so, Ruo’er treating her could end badly.
How could celestial techniques be used to heal a demon?
But her body didn’t give off any demonic aura; she was purely human, so perhaps his dream wasn’t reliable.
Yet, he could give his healing techniques a try; he knew a bit that might help ease her condition.
Lin Nuo directed his demon soul power towards the girl. Suddenly, she started coughing and expelling water from her mouth, gradually regaining consciousness.
Well, look at that, I’m impressive!
The girl slowly opened her eyes, mumbling something:
“Big brother…”
“Wait?!”
Lin Nuo was startled. What’s happening here?
Did I descend the mountain and then traverse into another world?
Or am I still dreaming?
This is a dream within a dream, finding out I’m awake only to realize I’m still dreaming?!
Frightened, he smashed a nearby tree. Okay, that felt real; this wasn’t a dream.
“Big brother… is… is it you… is it really you…”
The girl murmured. Upon regaining consciousness, she realized that the reliable little boy was now a grown-up version of him.
“Why do you look so disheveled? Being chased by enemies again? Are you out of your mind?”
Lin Nuo shook his head, instinctively starting a fire nearby to dry her wet clothes.
“Ah… it’s… it’s you… big brother…”
As her breath slowly stabilized, her words gained strength too. She began to sit up and looked around.
“What… where is this…?”
“Honestly, I haven’t looked into what this mountain is called. I’m just passing through; let’s just call it Little A Mountain for now. Now tell me, what happened to you?”
Lin Nuo sat cross-legged in front of her, inquiring.
“Big brother… no, Lin Nuo, I was attacked and lost consciousness. When I woke up, I was here.”
“Attacked? By whom? Your enemies?” Lin Nuo asked.
“Not exactly. I don’t know who they are. There were two of them; their individual fighting skills weren’t that impressive, but together, they were quite difficult to handle. I couldn’t match them. But before I encountered those two, I met Su Kexin and another guy in a white robe. They were also after me, and I managed to escape. But then I ran into the attack of those two strangers.”
“Su Kexin? You met her? What was she chasing you for? You two don’t seem to have any enmity. Wait, answer me this first: Who’s this big brother you were just talking about? Is he your actual brother? Aren’t those other brothers of yours all plotting your demise? Did you find yourself a sweet older brother or something?”
“What if I told you that big brother is you? Would you believe me?” the girl replied.
