Chapter 21: White Wolf – The Door to Rebirth in the Apocalypse – Full Book Online

White Wolf

After the apocalypse, Gu Ning had lost count of how many zombies she had killed. But this was the first time she had killed a person.

Killing a person felt completely different from killing a zombie. The sensation of a blade piercing a living body, followed by the warm flow of blood, was enough to make one’s soul tremble.

If Gu Ning had remained rational, she wouldn’t have acted after that first shot. But her mind was filled with the image of Gu Mama’s bloodied face, and she couldn’t stay calm.

Now, holding the knife, she had calmed down, but she felt no regret.

The only reason she still existed in this world was her parents. That was her bottom line, and anyone who crossed it would pay the price.

If she hadn’t arrived in time, Gu Mama would have been beaten to death by that man. Pity? Some people in this world didn’t even deserve the word “pity.”

Third Brother glanced at Gu Ning with mixed emotions and said, “I told you, as long as you’re in the gathering place, I can guarantee your safety.” After saying this, he stepped in front of Gu Ning, facing the group of men charging toward them.

On the other side, only Huang Mengyao and a few other girls were left to take care of Gu Mama and Gu Papa. Jia Daozhang, Cheng Ming, Zhang Yang, and Luo Long all stepped forward, shielding Gu Ning behind them.

“Gu Ning, don’t worry, we—”

Six people approached, led by a middle-aged man in a black long-sleeved shirt. He rushed to the guard, saw the bleeding wound, checked for a pulse, and found the man dead. His eyes widened in rage as he stood up and roared, “Arrest her!”

Zhang Yang, Luo Long, and the others instinctively raised their guns, aiming at the five men who were about to charge. Cheng Ming and Jia Daozhang quickly pulled Gu Ning behind them, nervously watching the situation unfold.

Jia Daozhang whispered, “Gu Ning, I don’t think this will end well. These people don’t seem easy to deal with. Now that we’ve found your parents, if things get chaotic, we should take the chance to leave first.”

Gu Ning glanced at her unconscious parents and said to Jia Daozhang and Cheng Ming, “If Third Brother can’t protect me, please take care of my parents.”

Jia Daozhang was slightly stunned but then solemnly replied, “I will take good care of them.”

Cheng Ming added, “Gu Ning, don’t worry. We won’t let them take you away.”

Gu Ning nodded without saying more and turned her attention back to the situation.

The middle-aged man glared at the guns pointed at him, his face dark with anger. He stared at Third Brother and demanded, “Third Brother, what are you doing?!”

“Nothing much, just introducing the younger generation to you,” Third Brother said calmly, turning to Gu Ning and waving her over. “Gu Ning, come here.”

Jia Daozhang and the others were puzzled as they watched Gu Ning step forward.

Third Brother placed a hand on Gu Ning’s shoulder and said to Wang Jizhong, “Boss Wang, this is my niece, whom I just brought back from outside. Niece, say hello. This is Uncle Wang.”

Gu Ning remained calm, nodding slightly at Wang Jizhong and naturally calling out, “Uncle Wang.”

Zhang Yang and the others were confused, glancing between Third Brother and Gu Ning, unsure of what was happening.

“Third Brother, what do you mean by this?” Wang Jizhong’s face darkened as he asked coldly.

“Nothing much, just introducing my niece to you. She’ll be moving around the gathering place, so I hope you can look out for her,” Third Brother replied.

“Are you mocking me?! My nephew was killed by her!” Wang Jizhong snarled, glaring at Third Brother.

“Boss Wang,” Third Brother’s expression suddenly turned fierce, his eyes filled with menace as he stared back at Wang Jizhong. “If we hadn’t arrived in time, my brother and sister-in-law would have been beaten to death by your nephew. They’re still lying there, barely alive! If we’re talking about killing, he started it. My niece is a well-behaved girl. Seeing her mother lying there, covered in blood and barely alive, she acted impulsively. Even by law, it would be considered excessive self-defense. Plus, she’s not even eighteen yet—still a minor.”

At this, Gu Ning couldn’t help but glance at Third Brother. She had to admit, his ability to lie through his teeth was impressive.

Gu Ning was wearing a youthful-looking tracksuit, her short, golden “non-mainstream” hair, fair skin, and delicate features made her look like she could pass for eighteen, even if it was a stretch. And without any ID, there was no way to prove her age.

“So, you’re saying my nephew died for nothing?!” Wang Jizhong’s face turned purple with rage.

Third Brother nodded calmly. “That’s the gist of it.”

Both sides fell silent, their expressions strange.

“Xie Aiguo!” Wang Jizhong pointed at Third Brother and roared, “Don’t think you can act so arrogantly just because you have guns! I’m the one who brought all the supplies to this gathering place! Without my supplies, you’d all be dead!”

“My guns can make you dead right now. Believe it?” Third Brother said coldly.

Zhang Yang, Luo Long, and the others simultaneously cocked their guns, aiming at Wang Jizhong.

With a single order from Third Brother, they wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger and shoot Wang Jizhong in the head.

As the tension reached its peak, a man with a gun jogged over.

“Third Brother, Boss Wang. White Wolf wants to see you both!”

“Fine!” Wang Jizhong sneered. “Let’s see how White Wolf handles this. If I don’t get a reasonable explanation… hmph! Let’s go!” He shot a cold glare at Gu Ning before leading his men away.

Third Brother called after him, “Boss Wang, aren’t you taking your nephew’s body?”

Wang Jizhong paused, his momentum deflated, and cursed, “Damn it! You idiots, go get his body!”

Third Brother turned to Luo Long and instructed, “Luo Long, take them to settle down. There are a few empty rooms in the student dormitory. Assign them there and tell the others they’re my relatives.”

“Got it, Third Brother,” Luo Long nodded.

“Uh, Third Brother,” the young man who had delivered the message pointed at Gu Ning. “White Wolf said to bring her too.”

Third Brother and Gu Ning both frowned.

Third Brother glanced at Gu Ning and said, “No choice. Since he asked for you, you’ll have to come with me.”

“Alright,” Gu Ning nodded.

She then turned to Jia Daozhang and Cheng Ming, giving them a slight nod.

Cheng Ming suddenly stepped forward, grabbing Third Brother’s arm. “Third Brother, you have to bring Gu Ning back safely.”

“Don’t worry,” Third Brother patted Gu Ning’s shoulder and smiled. “She’s my niece. Of course, I’ll protect her.”

Gu Ning smiled back, playing along. “Thank you, Uncle.”

Her address shifted from “Third Brother” to “Uncle.”

Third Brother was clearly pleased with Gu Ning’s response, the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes deepening as he smiled at her. “Let’s go, niece. I’ll introduce you to the former head of the Jiangsu underworld, now the leader of this gathering place.”

Gu Ning had to admit, she had been quite isolated before and rarely paid attention to such information. She didn’t even know there was a so-called underworld boss in her province.

“White Wolf?” Gu Ning said. She had heard this title from several people.

Third Brother’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Yes. White Wolf.”

“What’s he like?” Gu Ning asked. Knowing your enemy was crucial, and since she was about to meet him, it was better to gather as much information as possible.

“Even I’ve only known him for a little over a month,” Third Brother said with a bitter smile. “But in that time, I can tell you he’s a complete bastard.”

For Third Brother to describe someone like that, Gu Ning couldn’t help but feel curious about what kind of bastard White Wolf was. But if she had a choice, she’d rather not deal with him.

They were taken to a teacher’s building. There was no elevator, so they had to walk all the way to the top floor—the seventh.

However, Gu Ning didn’t meet White Wolf directly. Instead, she was led to a room at the end of the corridor.

The room had likely been a teacher’s office, with portraits of Edison, Newton, and others hanging on the walls.

“Wait here,” the young man who had led her there said before closing the door with a snap.

Gu Ning wasn’t particularly anxious or uneasy. Her biggest problem had already been resolved, and everything else seemed trivial in comparison. She walked over to the window, where she could see the small backyard. A few concrete ping-pong tables were set up outside, and further back was a large grassy field with two soccer goals. Trees lined the area, forming a small grove overgrown with weeds. Beyond that was a basketball court. The wind rustled the leaves, tousling Gu Ning’s short hair and flipping the pages of a book on the table. For a moment, Gu Ning felt as if she had been transported back to her school days.

“So, you’re Third Brother’s niece who killed someone?”

A sudden voice broke the silence in the room.

Gu Ning’s body stiffened momentarily before she relaxed, chiding herself for being so distracted that she hadn’t noticed someone entering.

She turned around slowly, her eyes narrowing slightly.

A man had appeared in the room.

He was sitting in a soft chair behind the desk, his long legs casually crossed on the table, his gaze lazily fixed on Gu Ning.

This man exuded an overwhelming presence, one that made you feel an immediate sense of danger upon first glance.

He sat there with an air of nonchalance, as if he were merely glancing at Gu Ning, but the intensity in his slanted eyes made her feel a strong sense of intrusion and danger, causing the muscles beneath her tracksuit to tense.

With just that one look, Gu Ning knew this man was the bastard Third Brother had mentioned—White Wolf.

Aside from the dangerous aura he emitted, his most striking feature was his short, spiky silver hair.

What surprised Gu Ning, however, was that she had expected a mafia boss to be at least in his forties or fifties. But this man, despite his powerful presence, looked no older than thirty.

Gu Ning stood quietly by the window, not deliberately trying to resist his aura. She spoke in a calm, almost casual tone, as if she were talking to anyone she had just met. “I’m Gu Ning. Are you White Wolf?”

The wind continued to blow.

The pages of the book rustled.

Gu Ning’s golden short hair was tousled by the wind, but the eyes beneath those disheveled strands remained steady, showing no trace of panic.

If she had been facing anyone else, her reaction wouldn’t have been noteworthy. But since she was facing White Wolf, her calmness seemed almost excessive.

White Wolf’s slanted eyes narrowed imperceptibly, and a hint of interest gradually replaced the boredom in his gaze.
