Chapter 1074: Their Relationship
“Hu.”
Lin Nuo exhaled deeply, the aftermath of the Spirit Technique left him feeling neutral—neither happy nor sad.
Basic skills matter little; not a problem.
The Ice Dragon was remarkably surprised. In just this short moment, Qin Zhu seemed to have improved; he coughed up some dark red blood, no longer appearing as pained as before.
What kind of Spirit Technique is this to possess such miraculous power?
He didn’t even know the name of the demonic poison, yet it could be cured—truly bizarre, as he had never witnessed anything like this before.
It seems he had been here so long that he had become a frog in the well.
Qin Shili hurried over to support Qin Zhu, who coughed up several mouthfuls of dark red blood, the warmth of which melted the ice on the ground.
“Dad, how are you? Feeling better?”
Qin Shili asked with concern. Qin Zhu held his chest, his breathing had become a bit more regular.
Compared to before, it was a significant improvement.
“I’m fine. What exactly happened just now?”
“You were poisoned by a demonic toxin, and Lin Nuo helped you expel it. You should be grateful you’re okay.”
“Poisoned? Right, the others are as well.”
Qin Zhu looked around and noticed a group of people nearby frozen in ice—a truly spectacular sight.
His gaze fell upon the Ice Dragon, which bowed its head to Qin Zhu, paying its respects:
“Apologies, Lord Qin. I’ve frozen you and caused you suffering.”
“No, rather, without you, I would have died long ago.”
Qin Zhu was soon able to stand steadily, turning his gaze to Lin Nuo to express his gratitude:
“Lin Nuo, thank you for saving my life.”
“Lord Qin, no need for such formalities. I’m curious, though—how did you manage to keep this spirit beast here for so long? Honestly, with its power, if it lost control, the entire city would be frozen.”
Lin Nuo said, his tone shifting from playful to mature and steady.
He might joke around, but when serious, he presented a different demeanor.
“You’re right. Its power could indeed freeze the whole city if uncontrolled. Fortunately, it can keep it in check, which is why I’ve placed it here.”
Qin Zhu spoke, feeling a chill from the surrounding cold.
Qin Shili had created a protective barrier against the cold for him, and he felt slightly better.
“Lin Nuo, the others have also been poisoned. Can you detoxify them?”
“My capacity to detoxify is limited; I can only save a third of them.”
“Is that so… then that’s unfortunate.”
Qin Zhu sighed, knowing he would have to abandon a portion of his subordinates.
But that was secondary; he needed to answer Lin Nuo’s inquiry first.
“Regarding this spirit dragon, we must go back ten years. At that time, I was out on a task and found it being hunted, on the verge of death. I saved it. It had nowhere else to go, so I settled it here. I initially planned to let it go once it recovered. But then, everything changed. Whenever it goes out, it triggers a cold wave; only here is its spirit energy suppressed, which is why it remains.”
Qin Zhu explained, and Lin Nuo nodded as he observed the area. Indeed, even if a cold wave occurred here, it wouldn’t affect the outside at all.
Typically, some noble families build such locations for crafting spirit artifacts or training, or even for secluded cultivation.
But constructing it underground at home was quite rare.
If it collapsed, their home would be gone; normally, people build such places outside.
“So it has been kept here for ten years, and in secret no less; this is practically imprisonment. Doesn’t it think about leaving?”
“It has thought about it, but ultimately abandoned the idea. It doesn’t want to harm anyone; until it finds a way to leave normally, it won’t attempt to exit. Unfortunately, in the past decade, I haven’t found a way to let it leave either,” Qin Zhu sighed.
Not wanting to harm others? Seems like a dragon that’s been softened by altruism.
He had never encountered such a breed in his past life; it likely became extinct—either it would be trapped for a lifetime or discovered and killed by someone.
Anyway, it wasn’t in the regular storyline.
Lin Nuo was curious—what kind of existence was this Ice Dragon race?
If this dragon was so exceptional, what about its ancestors? Did they possess world-ending powers?
But perhaps this dragon was just exceptionally gifted; the others could be weak, otherwise, why would it be hunted to the point of family extermination?
“Its ice technique is remarkably similar to your daughter’s. What is her connection to it?” Lin Nuo continued to ask.
“Shili was frail and sickly as a child, and she wasn’t particularly skilled in ice techniques; one could say she was an ordinary person. This place is heavily guarded, outsiders cannot enter, but one day, something strange happened—she came in by herself. Back then, she was only a few years old and gravely ill, running a high fever.”
“Ordinary? You must be joking.”
Lin Nuo found this absurd; she was the strongest young cultivator in the Xuanyun Sect, far from ordinary.
But then again, if you spoke of “ordinary,” Su Kexin was quite plain too; mediocre in all aspects.
Coming here while gravely ill? That sounded a bit far-fetched.
But in this day and age, anything could happen. Who knew what Su Kexin and the others had been through as children—they could very well be the chosen ones.
“It truly was just ordinary. Since that’s the case, I’ll no longer hide it. When she arrived here, she encountered the spirit dragon I saved. As for the details, I’ll let it explain to you.”
Qin Zhu handed over the speaking rights to the Ice Dragon, which was gathering its thoughts and words, its gaze landing on Qin Shili.
Soon after, it began to speak:
“When I first saw the young lady, she was just a child, burning with fever, weak and frail. I found it strange—no one brought her in; she came by herself. But the cold here is intense, and her body froze almost losing her life. However, I did my best to preserve her life.”
The Ice Dragon paused for a moment before continuing,
“Later, her body thawed, but she fell into a coma. I treated her until she woke up. Yet she still had a high fever. She wasn’t afraid of me and wanted to approach me. But every time she touched me, she would freeze, and I continued to thaw her out. Normally, a regular person couldn’t handle such torment, yet she survived. It was quite miraculous.”
“Hmm, go on.”
Lin Nuo was unfazed, listening to this storyline, guessing it was yet another instance of some predetermined fate nonsense.
In this script, some things were just absurd; destiny explained it all.
Often, it was merely the author being lazy.
“After contacting her, my overwhelming spirit energy began to gradually subside. No, rather than being subdued, the excess spirit energy transferred to her.”
“Alright, I understand. Her ice technique talent comes from you.”
Lin Nuo had a clue now; Qin Shili had taken this dragon’s skills, hence her exceptional talent.
“Hmm, but it shouldn’t be said quite like that.”
