Chapter 1089: A Stalemate
A massive pile of corpses lay sprawled on the ground, the results of the fierce battle between Lin Nuo and Su Kexin.
Both of them had lost control over their wills, yet subconsciously, they were still united against an external enemy, fighting with all their might to take down the demonic creatures poised to break free.
Now, however, with only the two of them left standing, there was no discussion on how to escape; their focus had shifted towards each other.
It seemed as though only one could leave this place alive.
Lin Nuo had absorbed too much Demon Qi from the slain creatures, his willpower waning, and his bloodshot eyes displayed his brutality.
He was drenched in blood, looking every bit the part of a war god who had just fought through a horde of enemies.
He picked up a half-broken sword, and with the surge of Demon Qi pouring from his body, it coalesced into a darkened blade.
The roars of demons echoed from Lin Nuo, reverberating through the ravine. Any ordinary person who ventured here would likely be scared to death just from the noise.
Su Kexin, glowing with a golden radiance that illuminated the surroundings, seemed to be attempting to suppress Lin Nuo’s Demon Qi.
But Lin Nuo had gathered the energy of numerous demons, and Su Kexin couldn’t overpower him.
In a standoff that lasted too long, both were hesitant to strike, wary of one another.
However, the intensifying Demon Qi surrounding Lin Nuo wouldn’t allow him to wait any longer; brandishing his Sharp Sword, he charged at Su Kexin.
Su Kexin didn’t evade and met Lin Nuo head-on, exchanging strikes.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The valley echoed with the sounds of fierce metal clashes, their battle evenly matched—a rare moment where Lin Nuo could go toe-to-toe with the explosive state of Su Kexin.
Mainly, Su Kexin was still young and her training was not deep, so her outbursts were limited. Although she could take down the weakened Wolf King, facing Lin Nuo, who had absorbed so much Demon Qi, she couldn’t land a fatal blow.
The two engaged in an intense clash, unleashing enormous energy that hastened the cracks in this sealed space. If they continued their fight, it wouldn’t endanger Ru Yu Village, but if the sealed space were to break, their fight would obliterate it, turning it into ruins.
Just as the sealed space threatened to collapse, they simultaneously paused.
Though they had both lost their senses, deep down, they wished to protect Ru Yu Village, the place that held their cherished memories.
What could be done?
Re-seal it.
They needed to reinforce the space, preventing its collapse, effectively reconstructing a battlefield for their combat.
They raised their Sharp Swords high, with gold and purple spiritual light flickering in the ravine. The cracks in the sealed space were mended, making it even more resilient.
A mere incense stick’s worth of time was no issue.
The two performed the re-sealing together in remarkable synchrony, the aftershocks calming down. The sunlight outside was blocked off, casting the ravine into deeper darkness.
However, their spiritual light once again filled the valley with illumination as two powerful auras intertwined, clashing.
Once everything was ready, they charged at each other instinctively; the formal titles of “young master” and “young lady” were tossed aside—who cared who was who now?
The blades clashed with zero hesitation or mercy; Lin Nuo wouldn’t show any pity. In this moment, he was a mindless beast, fixated solely on battle.
Their sword blades continued to clash in a flurry of explosions, the ground littered with corpses reduced to a bloody pulp, clouds of dust swirling violently but failing to dampen their fighting spirit.
Su Kexin maintained a steady defensive stance, while Lin Nuo aggressively pressed the attack—though after several attempts, he couldn’t land a hit on Su Kexin.
After an extended battle, the re-established space began to tremble again; this battlefield was not meant to last much longer.
Lin Nuo escalated his assault, bringing his sword down, while Su Kexin met it with her own defense.
With a furious roar, Lin Nuo pushed down hard, yet Su Kexin’s face remained cold and resolute, tightly gripping her Sharp Sword as she matched his strength.
The various demons within Lin Nuo howled, working to suppress Su Kexin, overwhelming her like a tidal wave.
Seeing that he could overpower her, Lin Nuo aimed for a final thrust to take her out.
“Ah!”
With another furious bellow, he launched forward, ready to strike down Su Kexin—and then it happened unexpectedly.
He suddenly felt a loss of strength; he was so close to overpowering her, yet he couldn’t push down Su Kexin, who gradually began to turn the sword back against him.
He strained harder, but still failed to finalize his suppression; Su Kexin took a deep breath, as if she had been gathering strength for just this moment, and retaliated against the pressure of Lin Nuo’s blade.
She deflected it.
Lin Nuo stumbled backward, just beginning to regroup and press the fight further, but Su Kexin surged toward him.
Now, it was Lin Nuo’s turn to defensively block her strikes, but he couldn’t keep up with her rhythm and, in a misstep, missed her attack entirely.
Sword down.
Su Kexin’s glowing Spirit Sword sliced next to Lin Nuo, not hurting him but cutting through the roiling magic and demons within him.
Endless demon howls echoed in pain; that single strike drained Lin Nuo’s fierce spirit, his strength rapidly wane, and the sword in his hand faded to a mere silhouette, eventually reduced to a half-broken state once more.
Lin Nuo fell onto the ground, the blood in his eyes receding, utterly drained, with no fighting spirit left.
He had absorbed an overwhelming amount of Demon Qi; after such a frenzied battle, he should have perished—even if Su Kexin chose not to strike again, he would still inevitably die.
However…
Su Kexin didn’t watch him die; after using her Spirit Sword to sever the great deal of magic and spirits within him, she focused on mending his damaged spiritual veins.
She seemed to recognize that Lin Nuo’s body needed that particular Demon Qi for maintenance, so she didn’t completely purge it from him.
She threw her Spirit Sword into the sky, and it soared above Lin Nuo, transforming into a beam of golden light that shone down upon him.
Lin Nuo clenched his teeth, feeling pain intensely, but the misery soon faded. The signs of his demonization vanished, and his body returned to normal.
Yet he had no strength left; his eyes drifted shut, and he fell into a deep unconsciousness.
At this moment, the entire sealed space shattered, sunlight streaming in from outside, bringing light to the shadowy ravine.
Su Kexin’s once raised hair cascaded down, and her eyes gradually regained their color.
But she remained unaware; with no threats to her life remaining, her explosive state was gradually receding.
She was quite satisfied with the battle; normally, she would have eliminated anyone posing a threat to her after such an outburst, but Lin Nuo was different—she had no intention of destroying him.
Eventually, her explosive state fully dissipated, and she collapsed onto the ground.
…
Lin Nuo reopened his eyes, finding himself lying on the edge of a cliff.
“What is this…? How strange, it seems… something happened…?”
He rubbed his forehead, but no matter how hard he tried, he could not recall what transpired.
