Chapter 1290: The Hunt for the Sacred Beasts
Han Zhe’s time of god-like power was coming to an end, so he had no choice but to flee back to the Sacred Temple.
While others charged and wreaked havoc, he was just making a run for it, offering a fresh perspective on retreat.
The high-end sacred warriors of their Sacred Realm possessed an explosive ability: unleash a surge of power and then quickly fade away.
Savvy demons would avoid their fury; if they didn’t have absolute confidence, they wouldn’t clash head-on during the explosion, lest they vanish into thin air.
As the leader of the Handa Alliance from the Demon Realm, Aike understood this all too well. He followed closely behind, waiting for Han Zhe’s power to dissipate before swooping in for the kill.
Even a large number of Sacred Beasts from the Sacred Mountain had been summoned, surging straight toward Han Zhe’s lair, the Sacred Temple.
Today, he was set to settle their debts. Since he was in the Sacred Realm now, he’d make sure to oust Han Zhe from his throne.
However, the Sacred Temple was no easy target; as a demon from the Demon Realm, forcing an attack was a stretch. Now, they were on the periphery, biding their time.
Han Zhe was seething upon returning to the Sacred Temple, cursing non-stop. He had come intending to mount a grand counterattack but had been forced back. They were waiting outside to strike.
“Too much bullying!”
Han Zhe let out a furious roar, leaving his subordinates silent and afraid to speak.
He would rather Aike storm in with his Sacred Beasts than have them camp outside, which felt like a direct insult.
If he could summon two Divine Sacred Beasts left behind by the Tian Du Kingdom, he might just turn the tide.
Unfortunately, the remnants of the Tian Du Kingdom seemed unaware, and the queen, Xiao Ling, who held the incantations for such summoning, was already dead. It was almost a lost art.
Later, he discovered that the royal family of the Tian Du Kingdom still had descendants who were sent to the mortal realm during their time of disaster.
Though he had already begun searching for that descendant and was even sure of their identity, the constant disagreements between the two leaders of the Handa Alliance in the Sacred Realm made it difficult to act. He regretted not unifying sooner.
There were remnants of the Tian Du Kingdom within the Sacred Temple, but they were just leftovers, doing menial tasks, with no high-ranking officials among them.
He currently held a tight-lipped minister from the Tian Du Kingdom, a confidant of the king, whom he had subjected to severe torture without being able to extract any information.
At this point, he had no choice but to find that old coot again. If that didn’t work, he would just have to let him fend off those Sacred Beasts. The Tian Du Kingdom had deep knowledge about the Sacred Beasts; perhaps he could sway the demonized ones back.
“Go, take me to find that old man!”
Han Zhe quickly followed a few Sacred Masters to the prison to find the imprisoned old minister, who had been bound in chains for years yet remained resilient.
“You stubborn old man, you’re quite resilient! After all these years, you still keep the secrets of the Tian Du Kingdom safe. Well, we can’t keep you here any longer. It’s high time you reunite with your Sacred Beasts.”
Han Zhe approached the loyal old minister of the Tian Du Kingdom, freeing him from his chains, preparing to take him to the battlefield.
The old minister sneered and delivered his remark:
“Han Zhe, you really don’t grasp your current situation.”
“Oh? You deaf old man, I thought you were mute; you can still speak? The Sacred Realm will soon be under my control; my situation is quite favorable.”
“Haha! Favorable! Hahahaha! You’ve led the people of the Tian Du Kingdom to ruin; your retribution will come! The Sacred Beasts of the Tian Du Kingdom will carry the will of the people to kill you.”
“Kill me?”
Han Zhe found it laughable; this decrepit old man was almost a corpse himself. Ever since the Tian Du Kingdom fell, everyone had been saying he would face retribution. If merely speaking could manifest such things, then anyone could claim the world.
“I’d like to see what those remnants are capable of to kill me.”
“Hehe, hehe.”
The old minister continued to chuckle, as if he had foreseen something. Even knowing his end was near, he showed no fear, for he knew that someone would soon drive these filthy individuals out of the Sacred Temple.
In an instant, one of Han Zhe’s subordinates hurriedly rushed over with urgent news:
“Report! My lord! There are unidentified Sacred Beasts appearing inside the Sacred Temple!”
“Unidentified Sacred Beasts? Could they be the ones from the perimeter?”
“No, no! They’re even stronger than those outside! We urge you to come help immediately!”
“Damn it.”
Han Zhe cursed, ordering his subordinates to keep an eye on the old man while he rushed to the scene to check out the unidentified Sacred Beasts.
……
At this moment, two unknown Sacred Beasts were invading, and chaos erupted inside the Sacred Temple.
They were a dragon and a tiger. Though their sizes were not enormous, they possessed unfathomable strength, far exceeding what the guards of the Sacred Temple could withstand.
“Damn it, what is this?!”
Han Zhe arrived at the scene and saw two glowing Sacred Beasts and a flowing woman.
“You?! How are you still…!”
Han Zhe was shocked; the woman before him was none other than Xiao Ling, the deceased queen of the Tian Du Kingdom, appearing right within the Sacred Temple!
“Han Zhe, today is your day of reckoning! The suffering endured by the Tian Du Kingdom must be repaid in full!”
Xiao Ling pointed at Han Zhe, shouting in fury. She had entered the Sacred Temple with the aid of those remnants from the Tian Du Kingdom and, with the abundant holy energy within, could summon the Sacred Beasts.
This Sacred Temple originally belonged to the Tian Du Kingdom but was now taken over by the Handa Alliance. They thought they had complete control here, only to find that those who bore grievances were plotting revenge.
“Sacred Beasts? Divine Sacred Beasts? How can a mere soul summon them?”
What stunned Han Zhe the most was how she could awaken the two sealed Divine Sacred Beasts, but he quickly pieced it together.
“Could it be…?!”
He realized it had to do with the sole surviving descendant of the Tian Du royal family. Only someone of the royal lineage could summon those Divine Sacred Beasts, and since Xiao Ling was dead, she must be relying on that sole descendant to awaken them.
In other words, she had indeed met that descendant?!
Damn it, he hadn’t thought of that. She was still haunting around and had a backup plan.
“Don’t doubt it. That is the fury of our Tian Du Kingdom citizens; this is our homeland!”
Xiao Ling bellowed, then ordered the two Sacred Beasts to launch a fierce assault, throwing the Sacred Temple into absolute chaos—as if adding fuel to the fire.
Han Zhe considered how to suppress them, but those two Divine Sacred Beasts were just too powerful, coupled with his losses from previous skirmishes, he lacked sufficient Sacred Masters to hold his ground.
Xiao Ling commanded the Sacred Beasts to pursue relentlessly, their wrath intimidating the Sacred Warriors inside the temple into inaction.
Meanwhile, Aike, the leader of the Handa Alliance from the Demon Realm, learned of this commotion. Though unaware of the details within, he was incredibly pleased:
“Hahaha! It seems there’s infighting! Perfect, once they’ve exhausted one another, I’ll step in to deal with them all.”
Aike chose to remain still for the moment, waiting for the right opportunity to strike.
The Sacred Realm was in utter turmoil, with each citizen on edge. Meanwhile, Lin Nuo and the others were unable to stay on Sacred Mountain any longer and had unconsciously drifted closer to Sacred City.
