Chapter 36

“Damn, we’re lost!”

Feng Wuxie looked at Yue Hongling in despair, wanting to cuss her out, but worried she’d dump him right then and there.

“Alright, alright, it’s not your fault.”

Feng Wuxie could only sweet-talk Yue Hongling now and started trying to regain his strength.

Yue Hongling’s smile was even more pronounced as they felt the monsters closing in. Suddenly, a massive chasm appeared in front of them.

This chasm looked like it had been sliced open, with the soil on either side charred and seemingly solid as iron.

Yue Hongling charged right into the chasm.

“Hold the line here! You recover your strength while I fend off the monsters! If I can’t hold on, you come help me!”

“Can you actually hold them off?” Feng Wuxie weakly asked.

“Yes!”

She tossed three bottles of alchemy pills to Feng Wuxie.

Yue Hongling scanned ahead.

In her past life, it had happened right here.

The two of them had fought together, continuously repelling the monster attacks until Lu Ye finally arrived.

This time around, Yue Hongling could handle taking out those monsters by herself, but she wanted to relive the thrilling scene from before.

“Kill!”

The chasm was narrow, and the surrounding charred soil was as solid as stone—an excellent battleground.

Two monsters charged from above and below.

Their attacks were effortlessly countered, sending the monsters reeling back.

Seeing this, Feng Wuxie quickly gulped down the pills, trying to calm his racing heart and restore his demonic power.

Yue Hongling fought steadily, acting as an unyielding barrier against all monsters.

Tian Wu charged in.

Yet, he was sent staggering back by a casual punch from Yue Hongling.

Tian Wu???

No way!

This human girl is this strong?

Seriously, if you’re this strong, why are you even running? Just wipe out those demons and be done with it!

What’s with all this escaping when you could just crush them?

This made no sense!

Unbelievable!

“Wear her down!”

Tian Wu roared angrily.

Monsters kept charging in one after another. Yue Hongling could easily punch one down but chose not to.

Time ticked by.

The monsters were repelled and charged in again, only to be sent back again.

Feng Wuxie was recovering rapidly; after all, he had the Phoenix bloodline.

He sneaked a peek at Yue Hongling, finding her as steady as a mountain. He even contemplated running away.

But that thought was quickly dismissed.

He could run, but Tian Wu was like a rabid dog, bent on his demise.

If he ran, Tian Wu wouldn’t hesitate to ditch Yue Hongling and hunt him down. That would only breed resentment from Yue Hongling towards him.

When considering everything, he couldn’t run!

With Yue Hongling still holding her ground, Feng Wuxie focused on regaining his power.

Another ten minutes passed.

Yue Hongling seemed to be reaching her limit, swaying precariously.

Feng Wuxie knew it was his turn to act!

He wasn’t weak either; in a one-on-one, he wasn’t afraid of anyone.

As Yue Hongling took a step back, Feng Wuxie suddenly charged in front of her.

“It’s my turn! You focus on regaining your strength!” Feng Wuxie yelled.

Yue Hongling paused slightly and, where Feng Wuxie couldn’t see, revealed a hint of a smile.

This feeling…

Suddenly, Yue Hongling frowned. Wait! Why did it feel different from before, not as heart-stopping? What was off?

Yue Hongling was puzzled.

Could it be that because she was strong herself, she didn’t feel that impending sense of crisis?

Back in the day, she had truly hung on to her limit here, and when Feng Wuxie had appeared before her, her heart had raced like never before.

An infinite sense of security cloaked her.

But now, that feeling was absent…

Yue Hongling frowned, swallowed an alchemy pill, and started restoring her consumed true essence.

Feng Wuxie was indeed strong, but against a continuous barrage of attacks, he was still getting hurt.

He simply couldn’t hold out as long as Yue Hongling could.

As his injuries piled up, Yue Hongling struck him with a precise chop, knocking him out and dragging him to safety.

Tian Wu’s eyes were full of fury.

“Hand over Feng Wuxie, and our Demon Clan won’t get involved in your grudge!”

Yue Hongling looked completely relaxed.

She set Feng Wuxie down and faced the horde of monsters.

“Fearless!”

She roared, sending her fists crashing out.

“Boom!”

Furious true essence transformed into two distinct symbols, charging into the monsters.

In an instant, several monsters ahead exploded, their blood staining the charred ground.

Tian Wu???

Monsters???

Yue Hongling didn’t spare a single word, her feet stamping clear prints in the ground, with secret markings flashing as she obliterated the monsters ahead.

Tian Wu screeched, and all the centipede legs erupted in brilliance, forming a beam of light rushing toward her.

Yet, Yue Hongling casually punched it apart.

Tian Wu???

No way! You’re this strong?

If you’re this strong, then why put up with our attacks for so long?

Why let a bunch of demons chase you?

Do these demons even deserve to chase you?

What kind of weird, pretend-to-be-weak game are you playing?

Everything crumbled.

The monsters were completely crushed by Yue Hongling’s ferocity. With only one path in the chasm, there was nowhere for them to run, as she wiped them all out with ease.

After taking down the last demon, Yue Hongling began to clean up the battlefield.

Gathering all the storage treasures, she set the corpses ablaze and swiftly vanished with the unconscious Feng Wuxie.

Looking at the unconscious Feng Wuxie, Yue Hongling began to ponder.

In her last life, they had held their ground until her senior brother arrived, taking down those monsters.

He hadn’t allowed them to stick together and had pulled her away forcefully.

So later on, she had no idea what Feng Wuxie had gone through.

Eventually, when she met Feng Wuxie again, they had explored perilous terrains together, practiced together, and sought treasures together.

When she was with Feng Wuxie, she genuinely felt very happy.

Now, with her brother not intervening, could she just follow Feng Wuxie?

She hesitated.

Well, even if she didn’t stick with him, they’d likely meet again soon enough. Might as well stay with him.

But not feeling that heart-stopping feeling this time was truly strange.

Before long, Feng Wuxie slowly opened his eyes.

The sky had darkened; Yue Hongling lit a campfire, staring blankly into the flickering flames, unsure of what she was thinking.

“Am I dead?”

Feng Wuxie jolted awake.

“Not dead—alive and well,”

Feng Wuxie checked himself, feeling perfectly fine, and pinched his arm; feeling pain confirmed he was indeed alive.

“Fairy, how did we escape?” Feng Wuxie quickly asked.

“My senior brother came and wiped out those monsters, and then we escaped,” Yue Hongling replied.

“And where’s your senior brother?”

“He’s a busy man, already left.”

“Ah, so it’s just the two of us alone?” Feng Wuxie said, disbelieving.

Yue Hongling narrowed her eyes, “Don’t get too comfortable. Once you wake up, I’ll be leaving. Goodbye!”
