Chapter 31: The Stench of Adrian People

Chapter 31: The Stench of Adrian People

In the end, the two guards, Binbin and Awe, succumbed to their injuries and tragically passed away.

“There’s no hope. I’ve never seen burns this severe before. We should contact someone to prepare for their funerals.”

Even Pield’s renowned physician shook his head after examining their wounds, clearly stating he couldn’t save them.

This made Yin furious. Not only did that scoundrel dare to commit such a heinous act in the City Lord’s domain, but he also killed guards. There was absolutely no way she would let this scum off the hook. She immediately decided to return to the City Lord’s Mansion to report the incident. She intended to set up a special task force to investigate this matter.

“Is that why you’re fuming like this?”

The City Lord watched as Yin sat before him, seething. It was the first time he’d seen this woman so enraged.

“Exactly. That thief named A Jie is undoubtedly challenging your dignity, City Lord. I absolutely won’t forgive that scoundrel. So, City Lord, please allow me to mobilize the guards to investigate this!”

“What do you plan to do?”

“I plan to conduct a citywide search, scouring every nook and cranny of this city. I want to see where that thief named A Jie could possibly be hiding.”

Yin’s approach was straightforward and aggressive—she wanted to turn Pield upside down.

“You’ll need quite a few people for that.”

The City Lord couldn’t help but smile bitterly. If he were to do it her way, a significant number of guards would be required. Unfortunately, the current number of guards under his command was far from enough for a full-scale search.

“I understand this action requires a lot of guards. But if we don’t do it, we won’t be able to display the authority of our City Lord!”

Yin wanted a comprehensive search not just to find A Jie, but also to teach other thieves a lesson, making them realize that Pield was not a playground for scoundrels.

“You’re really in a hurry, huh? This kind of thing can take time.”

The City Lord sipped his strong tea, speaking leisurely, as if this matter had nothing to do with him.

“But if we let that guy continue his rampage, it will undoubtedly tarnish your reputation, City Lord!”

Seeing the City Lord’s nonchalant demeanor, Yin became anxious for him.

“Yin, there’s so much you still don’t understand. Pield has a huge influx of people. Just the four gates see over fifty thousand entries and exits daily. That thief might have already slipped away before we even made a move. This search would be a waste of effort.”

After about ten years as the City Lord, he understood the nature of Pield very well.

“So what should we do next? Are we just supposed to let it go?”

“Did I say to let it go? Yin, do you know the most efficient way to chop off a turtle’s head? It’s to place a nice chunk of meat in front of it. Sooner or later, the turtle will stretch its neck out for the bait. That’s the best time to take the knife and strike!”

“So you mean…?”

After hearing what the City Lord said, Yin seemed to understand something.

“We need to find out what that guy is after, and then prepare the bait to lure him out. That’s the most time-efficient and labor-saving method.”

“But what if he causes further destruction in the meantime…”

“That’s not a problem at all! Anything that can be solved with money isn’t really a problem.”

The City Lord smiled slightly. With his resources in the City Lord’s Mansion, he could easily repair any damage caused by the thief.

“Report! City Lord! There’s a girl named Aierjisi outside requesting to see you.”

Just as the City Lord and Yin were discussing the thief, an Artificial Maid walked in to deliver the message.

“I see. Let her in.”

“Yes.”

With the City Lord’s permission, Aierjisi smoothly entered the mansion and approached his room.

“Yin, please step out for a moment. I have something to discuss with this lady.”

Given that both he and Aierjisi were from Earth, the City Lord had no choice but to let Yin leave temporarily.

“Alright. I understand.”

Yin obediently stood up, gestured for Aierjisi to take her previous seat, and left the room.

“It’s quite late for you to be seeking me out. I suppose you have something important to discuss?”

The City Lord glanced at the clock. It was already 7 PM; anyone visiting at this hour must have significant matters to discuss.

“It’s not really anything important. I just heard about the death of your two guards.”

“Oh? You know about that? Yes, two of my important guards have died, and I’m quite heartbroken.”

“Is that so? Because I can’t tell! If you were genuinely heartbroken, you wouldn’t be groping your Artificial Maid’s chest, would you?”

Aierjisi looked at the City Lord who was still toying with the maid beside him, contempt evident in her eyes.

“Haha! I’m just distracting myself. If I dwell on my grief, I might pass out!”

“Well, I don’t believe you.”

“Alright, alright! Enough of this boring chatter; what exactly do you want to talk about?”

The City Lord finally dropped his frivolous demeanor, looking seriously at the Little Princess.

“Didn’t you mention before that your city is being targeted by someone?”

“That’s right. Why? Do the deaths of those two guards relate to this?”

“Exactly. I sensed a peculiar stench from those two guards.”

“A peculiar stench? What do you mean?”

“It’s the unique foul odor of the Adrian People.”

“The Adrian People? What the heck is that?”

Hearing the Little Princess mention a name he’d never heard of before, the City Lord furrowed his brows deeper. He had a feeling this incident wasn’t as simple as it seemed.

“They’re a group that calls themselves the Ultimate Life Forms, a cult. They’re currently chasing me out on the main road because I’m unsure of their true intentions.”

The Little Princess had no choice but to explain the insane cult of Adrian People to her fellow Earthling.

“So… they’re after you?”

Hearing the Little Princess’s explanation, the City Lord looked at her with skepticism.

“There’s that possibility. But I feel it’s not just that; I don’t know the two guards, yet they were killed by the Adrian People. It’s possible that the ones who attacked aren’t Adrian themselves, but simply others empowered by them.”
