Chapter 52: Let’s See How Capable You Are

Chapter 52: Let’s See How Capable You Are

“Nice job there! How was it? I told you, that guy was just a flashy fool. Not your opponent at all.”

After the battle ended, Aierjisi gave Yake high praise for his impressive performance.

“Yeah. It was definitely easier than I thought. But my shoes got ruined, what a hassle.”

“Oh, don’t bother me with your shoe troubles. Just come sit with me in the audience later, and I’ll fix them for you. By the way, do you know which round that woman is in?”

Since Yake’s first match was over, the only contestant left to catch Aierjisi’s attention was the woman wielding a spear.

“Oh, her? She’s in the second round, facing off against Number 4.”

“Second round? That’s pretty quick. You should come back to the audience after that. I want a good look at that woman’s fight.”

Aierjisi shifted her gaze back to the Gladiatorial Arena as the announcer started rambling on about a bunch of unnecessary stuff.

“These folks are really poor, huh? I thought they’d made a decent amount. Turns out it’s just this?”

Taking advantage of the announcer’s chatter, Aierjisi counted the Gold Coins she’d just won from betting.

Good grief, the total wasn’t even as much as her three Gold Coins! Are these people really that broke?!

Unbeknownst to Aierjisi, she had already become their target.

“Wait, whichever girl bets on someone to win, we bet on them too.”

“Sounds good.”

Learning from their earlier loss, the crowd decided to wait for Aierjisi’s bet before following her lead. This way, they should avoid losing again.

“Excuse me, could you make some room?”

Yake arrived in the audience and took a seat next to Aierjisi.

“Aier, I’m here.”

“Uh-huh. Got it, sit tight. Want some popcorn? Or maybe a drink? You did well in that last fight.”

“Just some water, thanks.”

Seeing Aierjisi and Yake interact, those who had just placed their bets realized that she actually knew Contestant Number 16, which is why she had bet on him. So, why would they even follow suit?

“Aier, about the shoes.”

“Huh? You’re still worried about those shoes? Seriously? Here, take these. They’re new. Just switch them out and drop the topic.”

Aierjisi pulled a brand new pair of shoes out of Subspace and handed them to Yake, urging him to change into them and to stop discussing the issue.

“Uh…”

After Yake changed into the new shoes, he indeed stopped bringing up the topic of shoes.

“Next up is the second match, with Number 15 against Number 4. Now let’s welcome our two contestants to the arena!”

Once again, the entrances on both sides opened, and the woman along with Number 4 stepped into the Gladiatorial Arena.

“Come on, time to place your bets! Number 15 versus Number 4!”

“Definitely going with Number 4!”

“Come on, how can a woman like Number 15 even compete with Number 4?!”

“You can tell just by looking that Number 4 is a fierce contender!”

Just like the previous match, a crowd of onlookers threw their money behind Number 4. Not a soul bet on Number 15, that girl.

“Hmph, what a bunch of fools. Yake, let’s bet on Number 15 together, three Gold Coins.”

Using a Contract, Aierjisi signaled Yake to follow her lead in betting.

“I’m betting on Number 15, three Gold Coins.”

“Me too! Three Gold Coins!”

Aierjisi and Yake each put three Gold Coins into the betting box. With their initial bets, some spectators began to place their money on Number 15.

“Huh? Hey Aier, Number 4 seems to be staring at me since just now.”

Noticing someone was watching, Yake looked around but couldn’t find who was staring at him in the audience. Only when he glanced at the Gladiatorial Arena did he realize it was Number 4 fixated on him.

That gaze, Yake was sure of it, was the look of “I’m gonna take you out.”

“What’s there to fear? How dare he glare at my servant? Yake, glare back at him. You can’t let him outdo you in assertiveness.”

Under Aierjisi’s orders, Yake forced himself to adopt a fierce expression, staring back at Number 4.

“What are you looking at? The battle is about to start, yet you’re ignoring me, your opponent? Is that really okay?”

The woman noticed that Number 4 had been fixated on someone else and not on her at all. To her, as the opponent, that was an insult.

“Hmph. You? You don’t even have the skills to catch my eye. Someone like you? I could finish in a single move.”

Looking at the frail woman, Number 4 began to boast.

“Is that so? Then I’ll just let you have that move when the time comes.”

Hearing that her opponent claimed they could take her down in one hit, the woman wasn’t angry; instead, she fired back with a provocation.

“Oh? By your looks, you sure seem confident in your strength. I’ll graciously accept this opportunity then.”

Number 4 wasn’t offended. After all, such a rare chance where the opponent willingly gave him a move was hard to come by, allowing him to shorten the battle.

“Alright! Dear audience, thank you for waiting! I now declare! The battle begins!”

As the announcer’s words fell, Number 4 approached the woman with his massive axe. Unlike his foolish brother, he knew the primary goal in a fight was to secure a decisive opportunity! As long as he could seize that moment, along with the damage from his axe, the opponent would fall in agony in an instant.

“Aier. Are you sure that woman can win? If I lose three Gold Coins, my heart will literally break.”

Yake observed the two fighters and felt that the woman had no chance at winning this fight.

After all, a woman’s strength typically couldn’t measure up to a man’s, and Number 4’s physique clearly indicated years of intense training.

In comparison, Number 15’s woman showed no signs of physical superiority.

“Yake, how many times have I told you? You can’t judge a book by its cover. Have you not learned this yet?”

Aierjisi pinched Yake’s cheek in frustration, giving him another lesson.

“But, but, the difference between these two is just too great! I can’t help but judge based on appearances!”

Yake rubbed his cheek where she had pinched him, trying to explain himself.

“That’s still not a valid excuse. I have a strong feeling; that woman’s strength is definitely not what it seems.”

Aierjisi watched the woman standing still at her spot.

Now, let’s see just how capable you really are!
