Chapter 157: It’s A Pro At Committing Suicide (First Update Of The Day! Begging For Subscriptions!)
The dungeon rumbled.
The sound of some massive creature’s footsteps echoed through the crystal maze.
Although those inside the cavern could only feel faint tremors, the unmistakable “clack-clack” vibrations were indeed making their way in.
Crystal shards from the ceiling fragmented into glowing sand, pattering into the spring below and rippling outward in several small waves.
“I-Izay…”
Mary, visibly uneasy, let out a soft murmur, her delicate fingers gripping tightly onto his clothes.
“Don’t worry, Mary. I’ll take care of it.”
Noticing the mermaid girl’s tension, Izay gently stroked her emerald-green hair, assuring her.
“…”
Silently observing this scene, Fels’ thoughts remained inscrutable.
At the entrance of the cavern, emerging from the corridor, was a large monster.
An ugly deep green giant.
Its humanoid form stood over three meters tall, entirely covered in moss.
Moreover, tree roots spread across its body like armor plating, as if it wore full-body armor. Its head shape resembled that of a hairless human, perhaps enhancing its monstrous appearance. However, with its horn-like protrusions, it might be closer to a demon.
Its two large eyes, devoid of any emotion, glowed with a yellow light.
In its rough hands was a weapon radiating deep azure brilliance — a crystal mace-spear.
“Silver Star, that’s probably a rare moss giant from the twenty-fourth floor, but judging by its condition, it must be an enhanced variant. Its strength is likely above Level 4.”
Underneath the black robes came a low, distinctive voice, tinged with surprise.
Though Fels’ gender was indeterminate, emotions could still be faintly discerned.
It seemed even they were surprised by the moss giant’s appearance.
As a partial explorer of the dungeon, focusing primarily on anomalies and adventurers, they had naturally paid less attention to the monsters.
For some reason, the anomaly hadn’t mentioned this moss giant either.
Fels had only just become aware of the moss giant’s existence moments ago.
“Hmm, I understand.”
A calm response came back.
You understand?
Taken aback, Fels couldn’t help but feel perplexed.
When he glanced at Izay, the latter simply shrugged innocently.
“Marry told me while we were talking earlier.”
“…”
Fels cast a glance at the mermaid girl who had curled up behind Izay ever since the moss giant appeared.
Perhaps noticing his gaze, Mary silently turned away.
For some reason, Fels felt somewhat helpless.
He didn’t know why, but he felt like he was being excluded.
But at that moment, the one truly excluded roared.
“Ugh, OOOOOOOH!!!”
The moss giant raised its crystal mace-spear high and struck forcefully against the cavern entrance.
With a thunderous explosion, the crystals at the entrance began to collapse.
The land-based entry point, possibly including the waterways connecting it to the outside, was buried under enormous crystal blocks.
Sealing off the escape route.
This was what the moss giant was doing now.
A basically defenseless female, a frail-looking person in black robes, and a human whose presence could pose some threat but wasn’t equipped properly.
Summarizing — three weaklings.
It thought it could easily crush them!
It didn’t matter if the entrance was sealed; mother would repair it within half a day, by which time it could devour them and rest comfortably in the cavern.
“I cut off my own retreat? Truly a master at suicide.”
Seeing through the moss giant’s antics, Izay snorted disdainfully.
Reaching out casually, he gripped something seemingly empty air, whereupon it shimmered and transformed.
Before long, Que Xia had materialized in Izay’s hand.
“Mary, go to Fels.”
He said, addressing the girl behind him.
“Izay…”
Her clear emerald eyes wavered slightly. Mary seemed like she wanted to say something, but looking at Izay’s profile, which appeared to be giving her a silent assurance, left her speechless.
Finally, she obediently nodded.
“Um.”
The sinister green giant wasn’t about to sit idly by. As Mary moved away from Izay, it started running on its thick legs.
“Ugh, OOOOOOOH!!!”
Its towering figure, wielding the massive crystal mace-spear, exuded immense pressure.
But it was futile.
Facing the charging monster, Izay charged forward directly.
His powerful strides cracked the crystal ground as he rushed towards the moss giant at full speed.
In an instant, the distance between them closed. His spear flipped in a swift motion, striking straight toward the moss giant’s throat.
The spear tip aimed directly for its neck.
Reacting instantly to the impending danger, the monster’s large yellow eyes widened dramatically, almost human-like.
“—!?”
Too late to react, when the monster attempted to sweep its other hand’s crystal mace-spear, Que Xia’s spear tip had already pierced its body.
The next moment, the moss giant’s neck exploded violently, scattering branches and green moss everywhere, leaving its head completely gone.
Had Izay’s attack succeeded?
It certainly looked that way.
However, the crystal mace-spear wielded by the moss giant showed no signs of stopping.
‘Since its entire body is almost entirely made of moss, pure physical attacks won’t have much effect.’
Realizing this, Izay adjusted his strategy.
“!!”
The sound of tearing air reached his ears. In a flash, Izay leaned backward nearly touching the ground, narrowly avoiding the mace-spear that whistled past his face, smashing into the crystal ground beside him with explosive force.
“BOOM!!!”
A thunderous roar, vibrations, and shockwaves erupted. The crystal ground shrieked as cracks formed, shaking throughout the entire cavern.
“Eeep…!?!”
Seeing Izay about to be hit, Mary couldn’t help but let out a short, sharp scream.
Fortunately, the next moment Izay smoothly rolled away unscathed, calming Mary’s racing heart.
“Don’t worry. With his abilities, the moss giant isn’t a match for him.”
Noticing Mary’s worried expression, Fels offered a bit of reassurance.
From the very beginning, they hadn’t been overly concerned about the outcome of the battle.
Just as Izay had joked, the moss giant had cut off its own retreat—it was a pro at committing suicide.
Level 2 Izay could directly fight a Level 5 Tree Dragon.
Now, having reached Level 3, could this freak not handle a mere Level 4?
If anyone dared to nod and agree, it would undoubtedly be the funniest joke Fels had heard in years.
