Chapter 67
“No choice, since we can’t go to the Circus today, we have to give up. But with this rare opportunity, since Weirafiya isn’t by Yaser’s side, Aierjisi can take this chance to ask him if he knows anything about Weirafiya.”
For some reason, even though both Weirafiya and Ailin, like me, have crossed into this world through the game, we all arrived at different times. I came two months ago. Ailin came even earlier; I heard from Gaia that he met Ailin thirteen years ago, which means she might have been living in this world for quite a while.
As for Weirafiya, I have no idea how long she’s been here. According to the information I have, it’s possible she arrived even before Ailin.
“About the young lady? I’m not very clear on that. I met her and Lanose about six months ago. At that time, I was digging for treasure with a few mercenaries I hired, and I almost got kidnapped. If it weren’t for the young lady stepping in to help, my family would have lost a lot of money.”
Thinking back to my first encounter with Weirafiya still makes Yaser feel a bit embarrassed. After all, it was the first time Weirafiya transformed into a human in front of him, and she was completely… unadorned.
Although Weirafiya thought she had used her A-grade memory erasure technique [Physical] to make Yaser forget this incident, Yaser’s skull wasn’t made of tofu. A mere A-grade erasure technique wasn’t enough to wipe his memory; it would have to be at least S+ grade, right? [By the way, does such a thing even exist?]
“Anyway, I don’t know whether to call it luck or misfortune, but I signed that Contract with the young lady to serve her as a retainer. In exchange, I can use part of her power. Like this.”
Yaser raised his index finger, and a small flame appeared out of thin air at his fingertip.
“Oh, so the Contract has this effect? How strange, why doesn’t my Contract with Aier give me this kind of power?”
“That’s probably because you’re too weak.”
Aierjisi teased Yake. After all, Yaser came from a noble family and definitely had abilities not comparable to Yake.
“Is that so? But I’m really strong in Chester Town, you know!”
“Only in your little backwater town, huh? Have you forgotten the last time you were beaten to a pulp by that woman in the arena?”
“Oh come on, don’t bring up such downer memories right now.”
Yake was a bit unhappy as well. Why does this Little Princess always like to undermine him? He is her servant, after all; couldn’t she give him a little face?
“Could it be that Mr. Yake doesn’t know how to harness Aierjisi’s powers through the Contract? I didn’t know either at first, but I slowly figured it out.”
“Is that really how it works? Do you need to realize it on your own?”
Yake thought this was something that required permission or something, after all, it’s a Contract, and as a servant, he thought he wouldn’t be able to use Aierjisi’s powers unless the master permitted it.
“Of course! Doesn’t it feel like a rip-off? I felt the same way. It’s such a hassle needing to figure it out by myself.”
Even though he had already signed the Contract, to use the other half of the power, he had to figure it out by himself? What a ridiculous Contract!
“Does Mr. Yaser have any experience? If you do, please share it with me!”
If he had to figure it out by himself, it would take ages to harness Aierjisi’s powers! Since Yaser was there, why not just ask him for any tips he could share?
“Uh… I can’t really explain. You really need to figure it out on your own, Mr. Yake.”
Yaser really had no idea how to pass on this knowledge; he just stumbled upon discovering he could freely use the flame powers granted to him by Weirafiya.
“Ah, really? I can only figure it out myself… Aier, do you know anything?”
With no information from Yaser, Yake could only turn to his Little Princess for help.
“Don’t ask me! I don’t know anything about this either.”
Aierjisi also had no clue about this power of the Contract. In the game, there hadn’t been any mention of a Contract; even in Aierjisi’s memories, she only knew that Contracts were meant for sharing life with others. As for using the powers of the contracted beings, she wouldn’t have known if it weren’t for Yaser mentioning it.
“Are you kidding me… none of you know? Then I’ll have to figure it out on my own. I don’t know when I’ll reach a breakthrough.”
Yake collapsed dramatically on the table, thinking that with his not-so-bright mind, figuring out how to use Aier’s powers by himself was as unlikely as the world ending.
“Don’t be so sad! For a true strongman, even without using the Contract’s powers, they can stand against enemies with their own strength. Right? The power of the Contract is just a little extra; what really matters is our own abilities.”
Yaser reassured Yake not to be disheartened. In reality, the power of the Contract wasn’t that crucial; for him, Weirafiya’s power was just a magical enhancement to his blade, adding flames to every slash. While it helps in battle, it’s the everyday convenience it brings that matters more.
“That’s true! What matters is my own strength! Yeah! The power of the Contract? No need for it, because I’m already strong!”
“Of course, only in your little backwater town.”
Aierjisi couldn’t help but add another jab from behind.
“Aier, don’t say that! Didn’t I only lose to that woman in that one competition? I easily won against all the other opponents!”
With Aierjisi constantly teasing him, Yake was genuinely unhappy. What’s the deal? Just because he’s strong in Chester Town doesn’t mean he’s weak outside of it! A strong person will remain strong no matter where they are.
“Sure, sure.”
Aierjisi couldn’t be bothered to continue bickering with Yake. After all, he only defeated some second-rate characters; what’s there to be proud of?
