Chapter 69: Barbecue Surprises
“Is that really a thing? It seems like it actually is!”
Weirafiya tilted her adorable little head, recalling a time when she thought she was dreaming while sleeping. But lo and behold, it was the reality!
“Well, never mind. Since you’ve notified me, this time I won’t hold you accountable.”
Weirafiya rolled back onto the bed after hopping off Yaser. Clearly, she had misunderstood him earlier, yet somehow she managed to present herself as magnanimous for not blaming Yaser. In a way, it was pretty shameless!
“Miss, it’s already afternoon. Are you planning to keep sleeping?”
“Of course not! I’ve already napped most of the day. Even if I wanted to sleep now, it’d be impossible! And this barbecue smells delicious! Yaser, where did you buy this? We’re eating this today!”
Weirafiya was super fond of the special barbecue Yaser brought back. After finishing one skewer, she reached for another.
“Ah, Miss, be careful! Some of this barbecue has chicken and duck mixed in!”
“Eeek…”
Weirafiya quickly withdrew her hand. She felt an instinctive aversion to bird meat, and even a single bite made her feel uneasy. Maybe it was because she was currently a bird herself—a Phoenix—so she just couldn’t stomach it.
“Same roots, why fight so soon?”
But considering the skewer she had just eaten had no adverse effects, that one definitely wasn’t bird meat.
“Miss, here. This part doesn’t have chicken or duck; it’s all good for you. The leftovers… well, they’re all mine.”
Yaser kindly separated the barbecue into two portions: one for her and one for himself.
“Thanks! But Yaser, can I ask something? You know I can’t eat bird meat, so why did you buy it?”
Weirafiya questioned him while munching on her barbecue.
“Well… because I bought so much, the vendor gave me some extra.”
Yaser smiled as he explained the presence of bird meat.
Of course, that wasn’t the real reason. From his time spent with Weirafiya, Yaser knew if he didn’t buy any bird meat at all, she’d monopolize every last skewer. If that happened, would he even get to eat? To ensure he’d have something to munch on, Yaser deliberately bought some bird meat. Since she couldn’t eat it, he’d gladly devour it himself!
“Is that so? Then you can just eat the bird meat. I can’t handle it.”
Weirafiya didn’t give a second thought to Yaser’s true motive. After all, she had plenty of barbecue to enjoy, so the uneaten bits were no big deal.
Unlike Weirafiya, who didn’t bother thinking about her table manners, Yaser quietly enjoyed his barbecue, exuding a noble temperament.
“Speaking of which, Yaser, did you go out just to buy this? I remember you mentioned some interesting place.”
“I did mention that. I heard from the staff at the inn that there was a wonderful circus around here. I initially wanted to take you along to see the performance! But it seems the circus has moved; it’s not there anymore.”
“How disappointing! I’ve felt so bored here, just drinking my days away. When you mentioned a circus, I was really excited, only to be let down.”
“Well, it’s not entirely a loss. The circus is still here, it’s just relocated to another area.”
“Where did it move to?”
“Some place called Yuanzawa. I’m not sure how to get there.”
“What’s the difference in knowing that you don’t even know how to get there? There’s no navigation software in this world, either.”
If only there were navigation apps like GaoDeMap, all one would need to do is input the location and find the route! Alas, this world lacked such conveniences.
“Don’t panic! We can just ask someone when the time comes. If all else fails, I have backup plans.”
“Oh? What backup plans? Do tell!”
“You’ll find out when we get there! Let’s focus on the barbecue for now. But Miss, you’ve been sleeping all day. You won’t end up drinking again tonight, will you?”
“Hmm. You really know me well, Yaser. Even if I don’t say anything, you already know what I plan to do.”
“Miss, you really should drink less. Even though you’re a pureblood Phoenix, too much alcohol could still harm you.”
“Oh, come on! Don’t worry! I’m not on the same level as you humans; a little drinking couldn’t possibly hurt me!”
Yaser had already advised her multiple times about the dangers of drinking, yet every time her response remained the same, completely brushing him off. It left Yaser feeling frustrated—why wouldn’t this lady listen to him? Even if she was bored, she couldn’t keep drinking all the time; he had to come up with a plan to take her somewhere else.
“Miss, why don’t we take advantage of the evening and stroll around a bit? Sitting in a bar all day isn’t much fun.”
“Go out in this freezing weather? Are you kidding me? I’m fine, but I worry if you, a human, can endure it?”
Although Weirafiya, being a Phoenix, felt a bit uncomfortable in the frigid environment of Panimir, she could ultimately withstand it. Yaser, however, was a different story; one had to wonder if he’d be able to handle the cold’s merciless grip.
“Relax! I made proper preparations for the cold. I won’t just keel over. If we go out, we might discover some fresh surprises. Like this barbecue; if I hadn’t happened to find it and brought it back, you wouldn’t have known!”
Yaser shared the benefits of going out with Weirafiya, explaining that some things could never be learned unless experienced firsthand.
“Hmm. You make a good point. So when do we go out? Now?”
“Sure! As long as you’re not insisting on going to the bar, I’m ready to accompany you whenever!”
As long as Weirafiya didn’t suggest heading to the bar for drinks, wandering the chilly streets of this city with her was something Yaser could handle!
