Chapter 5: I Did It!
“Father King, I’m back.”
As soon as I stepped out of the gate of the Sacred Domain, I saw my father pacing back and forth at the entrance, his face full of worry.
“Ailin? You’re back already? So soon? Let me check if you’re hurt.”
“Nope! I feel absolutely fantastic right now. If you don’t believe me, Father King, come and check for yourself!”
Seeing his daughter return, the Ice Dragon King hurried over to inspect Ailin’s condition, checking for any injuries. Thankfully, there were none; the powers of the Sacred Domain had conveniently healed all of Ailin’s wounds.
“You’re indeed unscathed! Looks like you successfully passed the Trial there. But I never expected you’d do it so quickly. When I went through, I took three whole days and nights just to get through it!”
“Wait, Father King, did you really spend that long?”
“Of course! After all, I was fighting against a handsome guy that looked exactly like me! How could I bring myself to hurt him? It took a lot of effort for me to finally resolve myself and take down that guy who shared my face!”
…
Okay, it seems Ailin misunderstood. She thought her father struggled because of his strength, but it turned out it was because he couldn’t bear to fight a handsome dude—aka himself! Talk about narcissism!
“Never mind, Father King. I’ve finished my business here, so I’m heading back down the mountain. Gaia is waiting for me. I won’t disturb you, I’m off!”
“Hey! Why are you in such a hurry to leave? You finally made it home, so why not stay for dinner?”
“Father King, I really don’t want to eat our dragon food anymore. Compared to the dishes back at Gaia’s place, can we even call this food?”
Dragon food? Let’s just say, it’s generously putting it that way! It’s downright worse than pig slop!
All we eat is Magic Grass because it boosts our magical power and increases mana production. So, dragons feast on this stuff every single day. Ailin is no exception and has been consuming it her whole life.
If you ask if it tastes good, well, let’s just say it could be better. It’s torture to have eaten this for over ten years!
Now that she finally has the chance to return to the human realm for some proper cuisine, why on earth would she stick around for that horrible Magic Grass?
“Hey, you can’t say it that way! We’ve been making changes for 13 years now!”
“Oh? Really? I remember you were saying that any change has to be worthwhile, right? You didn’t even budge when I asked you to renovate the palace!”
“That’s because I thought it was useless! But food is different. Don’t worry! I’ve had the staff improve the recipes, and I guarantee it’ll taste vastly different from before!”
“Really? Father King, you’re not pulling my leg, are you?”
Ailin squinted, feeling like her father’s words didn’t quite add up.
“Of course it’s real! Why would I lie to you? If I deceive even my own daughter, what does that say about our Ice Dragon Clan?”
“Alright, I’ll believe you this once. I’m heading back to my room now. If dinner’s ready, remember to call me!”
“Sure thing! Just relax in your room and I’ll call you when it’s ready.”
Watching Ailin’s retreating figure, the Ice Dragon King let out a sigh of relief. As for the improved food’s taste, he didn’t mind it much himself—but would Ailin, who’s gotten used to human food after so long, find it palatable?
Meanwhile, back in her room, Ailin pulled out a small crystal, checking if Gaia could receive her communication.
However, just as she sent the request, it was answered in less than a second.
“Oh, Ailin! You sent me a message so quickly! Do you miss me that much?”
“A little bit, but what’s your deal? I just sent it out, and you picked it up before a second even passed! Are you holding onto that communicator all day waiting for me?”
“Of course! I’ve always got it in my hands, waiting for your call!”
“Hmph, do you think saying that will make me happy?”
“But you look super happy right now!”
“Hmph, fine! I won’t talk to you anymore. How’s work going over there? If you’re still busy, I should hang up.”
“Not at all! It’s just work, I can always do overtime. I can’t hang up on my wife; if I do, who knows when we’ll connect again!”
“Ah, your sweet talk is still the same!”
“Thanks for the compliment! So, how’s everything going with the villagers? Have you finished up?”
Now that Ailin was not by Gaia’s side, he was feeling a bit lonely. He missed holding his wife and showing off their love even while handling business.
“I think I’ve got everything done. But I’ll still need to wait a while before heading back.”
“What? Why do you need to wait? Is there something else to handle?”
“Not really, just that my Father King insisted I stay for dinner since I finally came home and wanted me to have a proper meal first.”
“I see. Well, enjoy dinner and then come back. It’s been over ten years since you last saw him; catching up could be nice.”
“Not happening. I barely have anything to talk about with him, and besides, you know how awful our dragon food is! It’s just that terrible Magic Grass every day; I’m practically bursting from it! Ah…”
“Hahaha, eating that every meal does sound rough, but maybe just one meal could bring you a new experience!”
Just like someone used to devouring meat and fish would have a fresh perspective if they occasionally ate vegetables and fruits.
“Let’s hope so! By the way, how are those two doing? If you can get in touch with them, let them know I’ve gained even more powerful strength now! They should hurry back to their homeland!”
Since Gaia was a native of this other world, Ailin’s request would be quite vague. But surely, Aierjisi and Weirafiya would understand what she meant!
