Chapter 41: Let Me See
Although the effect of this time-stop ability was incredibly powerful, making Yake’s body nearly indestructible during the halt, there was a major downside. While using this ability, Yake was completely immobilized. In terms of practicality during combat, the time stop was far inferior to Time Piloting.
“Well… I did think about that too. But with our current strength, we can’t act while time is stopped.”
Aierjisi was well aware of the ability’s drawbacks. After all, if Yake were hit by a delayed attack from the enemy, the moment time resumed, he would be bombarded by a barrage of skills right in his face.
“So what you’re saying is, if we could become stronger, we might make this idea possible, right?”
“Honestly, I’m not too sure. This is merely my hypothesis.”
“What?! I was excited for a bit, and it turns out this was just your imagination?”
“Sorry to disappoint you…”
“Whatever, whatever. With these two skills, they should provide us with quite a bit of help in battle. By the way, are there any other skills we can use besides these two?”
“There is one more, but it’s not something you can activate at will; it’s a passive skill.”
“What is it?”
“Time Reversal. Well, how should I put this? Rather than calling it time reversal, calling it time travel would be more accurate. The effect of this skill is that when you die in battle, you automatically return to five minutes before your death.”
“An automatic countdown to five minutes before death?! This skill seems pretty awesome! If we have this, can’t we become invincible?”
Even with the Blood Clan’s recovery ability granted by the contract, Yake was already pretty close to being immortal. If he had this time reversal, returning to five minutes before dying would allow him to avoid death altogether—now that’s a god-tier ability! It basically means he wouldn’t lose after every battle.
“You’re thinking too beautifully. Don’t forget! Skills can’t be used consecutively—once you use a skill, there’s a cooldown. And even passive skills aren’t exceptions, especially one with effects as good as this. The cooldown is definitely going to be very long.”
The cooldown for Time Piloting was about five seconds. The cooldown for time stop was around ten seconds. But for Time Reversal, the cooldown was the longest—an outrageous 604800 seconds, or a whole week!
“Wait, the cooldown for this skill takes a whole week?!!”
Yake was shocked. A whole week of cooldown?! It seemed this skill wasn’t as useful as he thought.
“Exactly. Since this skill can bring such huge benefits, it naturally has considerable risks. In the end, both benefits and costs have to be balanced. Just make sure to be cautious in battle—try your best not to die. Otherwise, you’ll be suffering through that week-long cooldown.”
“Uh, I got it. I’ll do my best to stay safe and avoid dying. By the way, is this it? Just these three skills? No others?”
“As of now, just these three. If we want to use more powerful skills, we need to get stronger and seek out new powers.”
It was the same in the game; he had just completed a beginner quest, and many new skills still needed to be unlocked.
“Alright, I understand! So next up, it’s all about leveling up, right? No problem, I’ve got this.”
When it came to leveling up, Yake instantly perked up.
“Let’s put leveling aside for now. The priority is to master our current abilities. How do you feel about controlling your body now? Can you fight proficiently?”
Aierjisi was more concerned with the immediate issues. After all, that group of Adrian People could attack again at any moment, so Yake needed to focus on mastering his current powers.
“I think I should be fine. I feel like I can control it pretty well now. And Aier, you’re timing your skill usage perfectly in battle! It’s like you know exactly when I want to use them!”
“Of course! Don’t forget, I’m currently in your body. We’re connected as one; I know exactly when you want to use your skills. If you’ve mastered control, let’s un-fuse for now. It’s time to rest—tomorrow, we have to accompany Weirafiya and the others to the volcano area. We can’t skip on sleep!”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
Aierjisi, following the previous steps, silently chanted to un-fuse, separating from Yake’s body and returning to her original form.
“Alright, let’s go back and rest.”
“Yeah, let’s head back together. Uh-oh…”
Just as Yake took a couple of steps, he suddenly tripped and fell to the ground.
“Yake? What happened? Why did you just fall?”
“I… I don’t know! Maybe it’s because the fusion wears me out? I’ve been using up all my energy during the fight. Now that the fusion is undone, my body can’t hold up.”
Yake felt extremely exhausted, about the same level as when he had sparred with Gaia at the training ground.
“Honestly, you’re such a handful. Fine, since you worked so hard, I’ll let you off this time. I’ll carry you back. Black Magic Whirlwind!”
She summoned a whirlwind underneath Yake, lifting him and carrying him back to their resting area.
Placing Yake gently on the bed, Aierjisi then dashed to the bathroom for a hot shower, wrapping herself in a towel as she returned to check on him.
“Yake, can you move normally now?”
“Not really, my legs are still a bit unresponsive.”
“I see… then let me help you out.”
Aierjisi lifted Yake and guided him into the bathroom.
“Aier? What are you doing? What did you mean by that earlier?”
“I’m just going to help wash your body. Since you can’t move right now, as your master, it’s my duty to assist you.”
Without hesitation, Aierjisi started removing Yake’s clothes.
“Aier, is that really necessary? I just need to rest in bed for a while!”
“Oh come on, now that I’ve already set you down, don’t start with these excuses. Are you afraid I’ll see your body? I’ve seen it before! Besides, I was literally just inside you! How quickly you forget! Yake, I can’t believe you’re such a scoundrel!”
“What on earth are you talking about?!”
Unable to move, Yake could only endure as Aierjisi played around with him, letting out a pathetic cry.
