Chapter 634 – Let Go of That Commander, Let Me Handle It (Part 11)
The System was fuming inside.
“Heh, dimension patrolling merchants? Just a bunch of hypocrites. No matter if they’re ‘reborn’ or ‘transmigrators’, once discovered, they’ll be eradicated without mercy. If we’re talking about ruthlessness, they’re far worse than I am. At least I let my host live out their natural lifespan; they won’t.”
The System tried hard to dissuade Jiang Pengji from causing trouble.
If it weren’t for the need to rely on Jiang Pengji to conceal its whereabouts from the relentless dimension patrolling merchants, it wouldn’t have had to spill so many secrets.
Thinking Jiang Pengji would be scared, it was surprised to see her nodding in agreement.
“Fair legal enforcement, can’t argue with that.”
The System nearly choked on its words, “Who are you even in league with right now? Don’t forget, you’re a ‘stowaway’ too. If caught, the consequences are dire, being obliterated is the lightest outcome… Alright, fine—I’ll promise you that neither I nor my true form will ever do anything to harm you. But come on, big sis, this isn’t the time to be reckless.”
Jiang Pengji chuckled, “So we’ve formed a temporary alliance, huh? But just like any business deal, it’ll eventually fall apart. Your promise is as worthless as toilet paper. If you’re sincere, just answer me one question honestly: Is the true form of the System really within Wang Huijun? Or is the system on her just a subsystem, a bait to mess with the world? Answer me, no evasion allowed.”
The System was taken aback, “You actually asked two questions!”
Jiang Pengji scoffed, “Then just answer the first one: Is the system on Wang Huijun the true form?”
The System decisively replied, “No.”
At this, a cold and mocking smile spread across Jiang Pengji’s face.
So it really wasn’t the true form.
With that, she became even more certain of her previous deductions.
The true form of the System was well-hidden.
Unfortunately, a flaw in the plan revealed its tail.
She was a qualified hunter, while the System was the failed prey.
She said meaningfully, “I thought my tactics were deep enough, but I didn’t expect to meet a pro at playing tricks. However, intelligence is something you’re born with; no matter how deep the strategy, it doesn’t matter if the person is too foolish… I don’t want to know what issues the true form of the System has, going through surgery to split off subsystems, but… don’t let me catch you again.”
The System sighed in relief.
If she was saying that, it must mean she agreed to cooperate, right?
“I’ve answered your question. Are you willing to help me now?”
Jiang Pengji blinked innocently, “Don’t you know there’s a saying about soldiers not shunning deception? Making promises with a rogue? Such wishful thinking. A promise without a seal is just like toilet paper to me; I’ll use it and toss it.”
The System: “…”
Damn, Jiang Pengji, do you have no shame!
Jiang Pengji crossed her arms, “So about that dimension patrolling merchant, when are they arriving? I could report you to them.”
The System scoffed, “In your dreams! It’ll take at least ten years. Don’t even think about crossing me.”
Ten years?
“That long?”
Jiang Pengji asked, “If it’s going to take over a decade, why are you so eager to seek my protection now? Planning to scheme against me?”
The System replied disdainfully, “You’re human; how long is your lifespan? I’m the System; time is the cheapest thing for me. For you, spending a fifth of your life is nothing but three to five days for me, or even just a few hours. Mortal, don’t measure your time with mine. To me, your existence is just like a fleeting mayfly!”
Tremble, you humble human.
Jiang Pengji simply exclaimed, “Oh,” and wasn’t even fazed by the System’s words as she shot back, “Congratulations! In three to five days, you’ll end up in prison. I still have ten carefree years before that dimension merchant demolishes me.”
The System: “…”
Crap, where did the director find such an infuriating female lead?
Jiang Pengji sneered, burying tonight’s events deep down without so much as a ripple in her emotions.
With the System by her side, dealing with dimension patrolling merchants seemed more than manageable.
As the System said, “reborn” or “transmigrators” are all illegal occupiers of a native body, pathogens to the local realm. If there truly were “rules,” to maintain balance and order, these abnormalities must be dealt with.
She had nothing to say.
What would come eventually would come; Jiang Pengji accepted her fate calmly.
Of course, she wouldn’t waste the time she had left just because she would meet her end in a decade.
On the contrary, she would live even more brilliantly, fervently.
Even if she had to die, she’d make sure that the people of this realm, and their descendants, would forever remember the name “Jiang Pengji!”
Her eyes seemed to burn with fire.
The System’s words didn’t temper her resolve; instead, they ignited Jiang Pengji’s determination to make big waves.
She felt unifying the Nine Provinces was nothing compared to taking on the whole world.
If she were to disrupt this realm and throw destiny off course, would that so-called merchant arrive prematurely?
Knowing that Jiang Pengji was such a fearless troublemaker, the System would hold its tongue for sure.
Now it regretted its decisions.
As a mere subsystem, it couldn’t stand up to Jiang Pengji.
After blowing in the night wind for half the night, Jiang Pengji raised her hand to brush off the chill and prepared to head back for a nap.
On her way, she happened to bump into Yang Si, who was groggy from waking up.
Jiang Pengji noticed his bleary eyes, swaying as he walked, yawning all the way.
“Why are you in full battle gear out here?”
Yang Si covered his mouth with his hand to avoid looking too rude while yawning.
Jiang Pengji casually replied, “Had a nightmare and woke up startled. Since I couldn’t sleep, I figured I’d take a stroll.”
Yang Si didn’t doubt her words and continued to catch some Z’s.
Tomorrow they’d infiltrate the mountain path, ambushing Jinmen County, followed by an intense combat schedule ahead. His body was worn from riding for days; if he didn’t take the time to recover, he was afraid he wouldn’t even make it up the mountain, and that would be embarrassing.
Jiang Pengji returned to her original spot, crossing her arms to sleep.
Regardless of whether it was the System or the dimension merchant, her priority was to conquer Jinmen County, leaving everything else aside.
However… she genuinely didn’t expect the true form of the System to be clever too.
Wasn’t it dark under the lamp?
What a truly cunning tactic.
She yawned, found a comfortable position, and quickly slipped into a deep sleep, her breathing becoming long and steady.
The next day, the weather was surprisingly good.
The sky was blue, looking fresh and clear. The golden sunlight reflected off the snow, shining brilliantly, almost blinding.
Jiang Pengji gathered her troops in her red and white battle gear, looking spirited and high-spirited.
“Lord, the mountain path has been scouted. Last night, someone stealthily cleared the snow; it’s passable now.”
Jiang Pengji nodded and flatly said, “Let’s depart!”
