Chapter 314: Cold? Then Come into My Arms
Killing without batting an eye, flipping skewers as if nothing happened—only Lin Nuo was capable of such nonchalance.
The meat chunks were grilling to perfection, the aroma rich with spices.
“What pig are you talking about? It definitely isn’t the one you want to roast.”
“Why do you think that?”
“Because there are subtle signs of a struggle here. Don’t tell me you had a fight with a pig?”
“It was a pig, just not an ordinary one.”
Lin Nuo continued casually, holding up the pork skewer to his nose and sniffing it.
It smelled amazing, perfectly cooked, not burnt, and definitely a delight to bite into.
“Want to eat roast meat?” Lin Nuo raised his head to ask Qin Shili.
“Sure.”
Qin Shili gently shook her dress, sitting beside Lin Nuo, casually tossing her silver-white hair and stretching her long, slender legs.
“It should be done. You pick the spices and add what you want.”
Lin Nuo pointed to the row of seasonings; going outdoors for barbecue couldn’t do without the right spices.
“You add whatever you want, I’ll follow your lead.”
“What I like might not suit you.”
“Whatever’s suitable, just add the same things you do.”
“Fine then.”
Lin Nuo took another pork skewer, sprinkling barbecue sauce and cumin powder, the aroma wafting, making one want to devour it immediately.
“Here.”
Lin Nuo handed a skewer to Qin Shili, who accepted it but didn’t eat.
Lin Nuo shook his head:
“I told you, it’s not suitable for you if you won’t even eat it.”
“You haven’t eaten either, so I won’t touch it,” Qin Shili replied coldly.
“I never asked you to.”
“That’s my standard for myself.”
“What a strange standard. Forget it.”
Lin Nuo couldn’t comprehend Qin Shili’s way of thinking and took a bite of his skewer.
Seeing Lin Nuo eat, Qin Shili began to nibble as well. Unlike Lin Nuo, who devoured his food, Qin Shili savored each piece delicately and thoughtfully.
Having tasted countless delicacies, an occasional outdoor barbecue wasn’t half bad.
She couldn’t help but praise Lin Nuo’s grilling skills—cooked just right with moderate seasoning, the sauce enhancing but not overshadowing the meat’s original flavor.
“How is it? If you don’t like it, feel free to spit it out.”
“Not at all, I really like it.”
Qin Shili took another bite, savoring it for a moment before swallowing.
She didn’t continue eating, fixing her icy gaze on Lin Nuo:
“About what we discussed earlier, I hope you’ll give me an answer.”
“As I said, it was just about killing a pig.”
“Really?”
Qin Shili leaned closer, her cold eyes radiating an aura of frost.
Lin Nuo suddenly felt a chill creeping through him.
He instinctively leaned back, but Qin Shili wrapped her arms around his neck, leaving him no room to escape.
“You might be right, but that’s not the whole truth.”
Qin Shili continued coldly, their proximity suggesting intimacy, but in reality, she was interrogating him.
“How about you take a guess?”
“Then you need to give me a hint.”
“Have you noticed any strangers in town?”
“I did, and I even asked them. They said they were just passing through for a place to stay, which is why I came out to find you and ask your opinion. Oh, I think I get it. The ‘pig’ you mentioned refers to them, doesn’t it?”
“You guessed it, so there’s no need for me to elaborate.”
“Why kill? There must be a reason, and where is the body? If things go south, I’ll help you settle it. After all, we share the same bed; you shouldn’t keep secrets from me.”
Qin Shili said this without any hesitation.
“Can you loosen your grip? Your coldness is giving me chills.”
“Cold? Sure.”
Qin Shili first loosened her hold but then shifted tactics, pulling Lin Nuo into her embrace.
The icy chill dissipated, replaced by warmth.
The warmth of her chest, the softness of her curves.
“Warm enough now?”
“I’ve warmed up enough; you don’t need to use that technique anymore.”
“I’m used to it. I just like this way when I see you. By the way, I have a new tactic.”
Qin Shili stretched her long legs and wrapped them around Lin Nuo’s waist.
Lin Nuo placed his hands on Qin Shili’s black silk thighs, contemplating how to wriggle free.
But her leg strength was undeniable; he couldn’t escape even if he tried.
Lin Nuo: “…”
He felt like a pet, trapped in his owner’s embrace with no freedom at all.
Alright, I’ll give up.
Recently, Qin Shili had been letting go of her noble image as a dignified lady, frequently acting in ways that were less than appropriate.
Of course, she only did this when with Lin Nuo. Before the common people, she was once a proud and distant ice beauty.
“What do you want to eat? I’ll feed you.”
“My meat is about to burn; let me flip it.”
“I think it’s done, no need to turn it.”
Qin Shili took the skewers down and placed them on a small plate beside her, then lifted one and brought it to Lin Nuo’s mouth.
“This beef skewer, is it okay?”
“Forget it, I’ll explain what’s going on instead; just put it back.”
Lin Nuo conceded, having come out for a barbecue, he didn’t want to be fed like they were in a room. But here he was, still being fed by her.
The ice beauty’s control was indeed intimidating.
Lin Nuo stared at her warm curves, slightly lifting his head to meet Qin Shili’s cold gaze:
“Do you know the true origins of the townsfolk in this little town?”
“I don’t know, nor do I intend to ask.”
“Then forget it; I won’t say anything.”
“I want to hear your side, not theirs.”
As Qin Shili exerted her leg strength, Lin Nuo felt the pressure from both sides.
“That’s a bit unbecoming of you,” Lin Nuo remarked.
“I don’t mind.”
“I’m just reminding you. If you don’t mind, then fine. There are many townsfolk here who possess unique skills; they have extraordinary pasts, but they moved here to hide.”
“Townsfolk? Hiding? That’s quite a fresh take. That’s why I love talking to you; there’s always unexpected insight.”
“I’m just stating facts. By the way, have you heard of the Dong Wei organization?”
“I’ve heard of it, a powerful organization that even the royal family must respect.”
“Some of their people have come; they might be the outsiders you mentioned.”
“What are they here for?”
Qin Shili asked, wondering if it had anything to do with the princess.
“To recruit people. I saw a man recruiting the meat shop owner, but I don’t know if he succeeded.”
“What about that person?”
“He’s here.”
Lin Nuo pointed to a patch of earth beneath the coal.
Qin Shili noticed what seemed to be signs of excavation.
“Could it be that the person you killed is buried here?” she asked.
“Yes,” Lin Nuo nodded.
“You’re something else—killing someone from Dong Wei and burying them here while grilling meat on top.”
Qin Shili exclaimed, her delicate fingers lifting Lin Nuo’s chin.
“However, I find this side of you rather fascinating.”
