Chapter 93 – Chapter 81 – Almost Lost Heads
“Where’s my son Azheng!?”
Just as the three were about to enter the juvenile detention center, an old woman with tear-streaked face burst out from the police lines on the side and towards them. She was held back by high school staff, struggling and crying hysterically.
Most residents had been evacuated, but this mother refused to leave because her son was still locked inside the juvenile center.
“Please leave immediately. Due to equipment failure nearby, toxic gas may spread to this area,” Kiyotaka Ijichi approached and tried to convince her to leave under the pretence of safety concerns.
Watching the anxious mother being taken away, Itadori Yuuji felt a sudden pang in his nose. His eyes became resolute. He clenched his fist tightly and declared firmly, “We must save them!”
“Of course!” Kugisaki Nobara replied with a confident smile.
After forcibly persuading the unrelated people to leave, Kiyotaka Ijichi returned to his group. “Now, I will cast the curtain.”
He struck a hand sign and quickly recited the incantation. A dark veil slowly descended, enveloping the entire detention center. The already gloomy sky darkened even more.
“Gorou!” Fushiguro Megumi also struck a hand sign, summoning a white wolf spirit, “Gorou will notify us if any cursed spirits approach.”
“Let’s go.” Megumi led the way, pushing open the iron door of a juvenile detainee’s dormitory.
“Alright!” Yuuji, with a punch-ready posture, energetically followed behind him.
As they entered the dorm room, the environment differed drastically from a typical dormitory building, replaced by complex pipes and old structures.
“What’s going on here? This isn’t supposed to be a dormitory!” Yuuji stared wide-eyed at the dramatically transformed surroundings.
“This is… an unfinished Realm of Birth!” Megumi, as a Grade 2 sorcerer, explained to Yuuji, who just delved into the world of curses, “A Grade 1 cursed spirit couldn’t have created something like this.”
He suddenly realized something, turned around sharply, and his pupils shrank: “Sure enough, the entrance door has vanished!”
Yuuji and Nobara also turned their heads simultaneously, panic spreading across their faces when they noticed the exit they came from had disappeared.
“Where’s the door? Didn’t it just exist seconds ago!?”
“It’s gone! Now, we’re trapped in a horror movie!”
Watching the two panicking together, Megumi scolded them, “Stay calm! Gorou has memorized the exit location; just keep advancing.”
Upon hearing this, the anxiety on their faces subsided, and the two happily petted the white wolf’s head.
This is a Special Grade!
Why weren’t these two nervous at all? They seemed like characters straight out of a comedy manga.
Encouraging the two to continue moving forward, after traversing through narrow and convoluted pipelines, the surroundings abruptly became clear.
They arrived at an open space where a figure slumped against the wall at the end caught their attention. Blood spattered onto the wall was conspicuous.
“Hey! There’s someone over there!”
Seeing someone injured, Yuuji rushed over.
“Hey! Don’t charge in recklessly!”
Megumi wanted to stop him, but Yuuji was too swift, and before he could protest, Yuuji reached the figure. The two hurriedly followed suit.
The figure sitting against the wall wore correctional attire. There were no signs of life in the eyes of the man staring blankly, as if he had experienced immense fear before death.
Then, Yuuji noticed the identity tag hung on his chest reading ‘Okazaki Masa’. This reminded him of the weeping woman who breached the line earlier—it was this man’s mother.
“He’s already dead. Let’s find the remaining four.” said Megumi, turning away to leave after glancing at the body.
Taking two steps, Megumi looked back, realizing Yuuji stood motionless, “Hey, what are you spacing out for?”
“I’m taking this man’s body outside,” Yuuji finally broke the silence, voice earnest and serious.
“Huh!? Are you joking? This person is already dead!” Megumi showed a hint of anger, thinking this person was unreasonable.
“But exactly because he’s dead!” Yuuji shouted, clenching his fists tightly, nails digging into his palm, “That’s why we need to take him out! How else are we supposed to tell that woman her son died? Who would believe us then?”
“You’re mad, aren’t you?”
Megumi lost his patience and grabbed Yuuji’s collar in a fit of anger, “They are criminals!”
“This guy, Okazaki Masa, caused the death of a young girl due to driving without a license and was on his second offense! These five people, frankly, are nothing but despicable criminals. Even if they’re all dead, I wouldn’t care either!”
“Even so, will you still try and save them despite the risk of them causing harm again?”
“That’s none of your concern…” Yuuji hesitated a moment, then retorted, “What about when you saved me!?”
“Hey, can you two not argue at a time like this!?”
As the arguing intensified, Nobara finally stepped in and prepared to pull them apart.
Suddenly, the ground beneath Nobara’s feet turned hollow, causing her to fall into the abyss, only to see the ground resume its normal state, leaving no trace she had ever appeared.
“Cursed spirit? When did this happen!?” Nobara vanished without a trace. Megumi panicked, “No, Gorou didn’t give any warning…”
Just as his gaze shifted to catch a glimpse of the white, he saw Gorou’s head embedded in the wall, while his body mysteriously disappeared.
Megumi instantly felt his breath become labored.
A shadowy figure appeared right behind them, almost brushing past them, which they had failed to notice.
Realizing the cursed spirit had appeared in front of them, Megumi felt overwhelming oppression coming from it, making it hard for them to breathe and almost impossible to control their trembling bodies.
Move! Move, goddamnit! My body!
Yuuji gritted his teeth and drew a slaughter knife-shaped cursed tool from his waist, turning around and slashing at the cursed spirit inches away from him.
Plop!
As the sound of flesh being severed filled the air, Yuuji’s arm, still raised for the strike, fell limply to the ground, the hand holding the weapon having been sliced off.
What happened!?
I couldn’t even see his movements—are all Special Grades this fast? How am I possibly going to win?!
In a split second, Yuuji judged the disparity between himself and his opponent, gritting his teeth against the pain from losing his wrist and pushed Megumi aside with his good hand.
“Yuuji!—”
Being pushed forward, Megumi instinctively regained his ability to act.
“Quickly find Nobara, bring her away, and signal me once we do! Then I’ll set Sukuna free!” Yuuji pleaded urgently, “Only this can ensure our survival. Hurry!”
Megumi hesitated for a moment but rapidly obeyed, “Don’t die on me!”
While running, Megumi summoned a black Gorou spirit to guide him to Nobara.
Behind him, unseen to the eye, Yuuji clenched his right arm, forcing himself to stop trembling.
“You make this way too difficult, Megumi.” He chuckled bitterly.
Following Gorou, Megumi soon found Nobara, surrounded by multiple cursed spirits.
“Toad!”
“Snake!”
Summoning a toad spirit, he used its tongue to rescue Nobara, before a giant white snake emerged from the shadows and lunged toward the pile of cursed spirits.
“We’re escaping from here!” Megumi commanded the snake, shouting over his shoulder.
Still hanging in the toad’s mouth, only Nobara’s head visible, she complained, “I hate toads…”
“Sorry about that!”
Releasing the snake spirit and letting it turn back into shade, Megumi rode the toad, taking Nobara toward the exit.
Fortunately, the cursed spirits did not follow. They successfully reached the exit under Gorou’s guidance, breaking it open with curse energy to reveal the original scene.
Looking for Ijichi Kiyotaka, who anxiously awaited outside the curtain, Megumi handed Nobara over to him, “Mr. Ijichi, please bring Nobara to the hospital. I’ll wait here for Yuuji and others.”
“Alright, understood.” Nodding, Ijichi helped Nobara into the car and drove swiftly to a nearby hospital.
Megumi sighed in relief but suddenly tensed up again.
“Tch, Lin Qi is always so slow… Might as well signal Yuuji. I can’t vouch for what happens next.”
Letting the wolf emit a mournful howl, Megumi felt a hand patting him on the shoulder.
“Sorry, I’m late. The navigation device is malfunctioning.” Lin Qi, appearing behind the hedgehog-headed boy, asked, “How’s it going?”
“You finally made it.”
Hearing the familiar cold yet ethereal voice, Megumi smiled with a mix of surprise, “Yuuji, my companion is fighting a Special Grade cursed spirit inside!”
“I understand,” Lin Qi patted his shoulder in reassurance, “I’ll come back soon. Your companion will be fine.”
Watching him enter the deformed dormitory building, disappearing from sight, Megumi exhaled deeply, leaning against the wall.
Now, he could truly relax.
…
“You know what? We both belong to the Special Grade category. You and I are equals.”
Underneath the broken stone bridge, the hypothetical Special Grade cursed spirit born from a cursed fetus, with limbs severed and body deeply embedded into the wall, watched leisurely.
The roles were completely inverted.
Black patterns adorned Yuuji’s face, and the second pair of eyes of Ryomen Sukuna opened.
Sukuna’s mocking words agitated the spirit, which began struggling, tearing itself from the wall and regenerating its severed limbs in moments.
“Pretty impressive, Special Grade!” Sukuna grinned, enthusiastically encouraging it, “Keep going, keep going!”
Recovering fully, the Special Grade cursed spirit faced him and smiled, revealing gleaming white teeth.
“Are you happy? Would you like me to praise you?” Sukuna shrugged, “But unlike humans, restoring wounds with curse energy is easy for cursed spirits.”
“Whether it’s you or this kid, neither understands curses.”
Laughing, he extended his hand to form a symbol, “This is a chance. Let me tell you what true jujutsu is.”
“Realm unfolding…” His pupils constricted abruptly.
Before he could finish, the Special Grade cursed spirit in front trembled and a red gash appeared on its neck as if cut by an invisible blade, its head cleanly rolling off.
“Phew, almost lost heads.”
A relieved yet mischievous voice echoed above Ryomen Sukuna.
…
