Chapter 94: Something’s Off with Yoshino Junpei
Following the heavy rain, the summer heat waned, and the air became fresh. Small puddles on the streets reflected the clear sky like mirrors.
“It’s such a beautiful day like this, let’s do something good. Therefore, interrogating Yoshino Junpei will be left to you. Those three deceased students were related to him, and there’s suspicion of murder.”
“I need to go around Kanagawa and see if I can find clues. Given that guy’s previous movements, he could run away at any time. It’d be best if we caught him right then.”
After saying that, Lin Qi sent them off onto the street.
“Can interrogation really be considered something good? Generally speaking…” Itadori Yuuji grumbled.
“If you take it seriously, you’ve already lost,” Yukinoshita Yukino said calmly.
Thinking about everything unreasonable that Lin Qi had done since meeting him: opening his mouth on his face to threaten him; opening his mouth on his hand, forcing him to feed him…
Forget it, don’t dwell further on it, it only makes you angry.
“The notes Lin Qi gave me include Yoshino Junpei’s home address, and he hasn’t been to school since the movie theater accident. If we wait near his house, we’ll find him.”
Observing the information Lin Qi had sent on his phone, Yukinoshita Yukino stated.
Arriving in the area close to Yoshino Junpei’s residence, just turning the corner, they saw a teenage boy with side-swept bangs, holding a bag from the convenience store.
“Yukinoshita-senpai, is this person Yoshino Junpei?” Itadori Yuuji pointed out and asked.
“He is.” Yukinoshita Yukino confirmed after carefully comparing the photo, nodding her head affirmatively. “Let’s go.”
“Eh? We’re going to ask directly?” Itadori Yuuji was taken aback. “Won’t that be a bit difficult?”
“Why are you searching?” The girl looked puzzled.
“It feels awkward,” he scratched his cheek, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
“Yitadori-kun,” Yukinoshita Yukino’s expression turned serious. “Do you know why we are here?”
“Well, to investigate Yoshino Junpei, aren’t we?”
“Sigh…”
Yukinoshita Yukino sighed in despair. The last person she had to explain herself to for hours was Yuigahama.
“We are investigating a triple homicide. Yoshino Junpei is our main eyewitness. Can we afford to neglect questioning him due to your embarrassment?”
“Understood, sorry!” Itadori Yuuji clasped his hands together and apologized hastily.
“You understand.”
Yukinoshita Yukino led Itadori Yuuji in pursuit, finally stopping Yoshino Junpei at his doorstep. “Yoshino Junpei-san.”
Hearing someone call his name, Yoshino Junpei turned reluctantly. With a side-swept fringe covering his right eye, he saw a man and a woman approaching him.
“Who are you?”
“I’m Itadori Yuuji, and Yukinoshita-senpai is with me.” Itadori Yuuji greeted him confidently.
“We have questions for you.” Yukinoshita Yukino came straight to the point, “On June 23rd, you skipped school and went to the cinema where you witnessed three students from your school die.”
“Am I mistaken?”
“… Who are you? I’ve already given my statement to the police.”
Yukinoshita Yukino’s direct questions made Yoshino Junpei suspicious and unfriendly.
“You’re right,” the girl nodded, “Just answer honestly.”
“… I refuse.”
Yoshino Junpei stepped back, “If nothing else matters, I must return home. Please leave.”
“While you’ve been cleared by the police, we still consider you a suspect. You’ve seen the victims’ unusual deaths, didn’t you? Let us get to the point—what did you witness?”
The situation became tense.
Yoshino Junpei’s pupils shrank—the two were after Mr. Mahito!
“Hold on! Why did things come to this?” Itadori Yuuji quickly intervened, positioning himself between them.
“Yitadori-kun, step aside.”
Yukinoshita Yukino watched Yoshino Junpei’s reaction, confirming her suspicions. He might not have committed the cinema incident, but he surely knew something.
Perhaps he had something to do with the four curse spirits that killed Ookaa!
“That’s exactly why Yukinoshita-senpai needs to calm down!”
Seeing the girl prepare to attack, Itadori Yuuji held her back, fearing she would do something typical of Sensei Lin Qi style like taking him directly to interrogation.
Preventing Yukinoshita Yukino, he turned to Yoshino Junpei, trying to reason with him, “Come on, just tell us what happened that day! We won’t trouble you!”
“I have nothing to say…”
“Oh, Junpei, there you are, I’ve been looking for you.”
Before Yoshino Junpei could speak, a voice behind him emerged that he intensely disliked.
A middle-aged man with a center part hairstyle approached, wiping his sweat as he walked. His white shirt strained over his belly button, moving up and down with each step, and his front buttons seemed ready to pop open.
“Guidance Counselor… ” Yoshino Junpei showed no restraint in expressing disgust.
“You haven’t been to school in days. Are you ready to give up your education?” The Guidance Counselor complained, “Skipping classes is one thing, but not attending a friend’s funeral… that’s quite unacceptable.”
“Aren’t you the lonely one at school? Only those three people spoke to you, befriended you…”
Befriended?
This guy, something must be wrong with his head.
Didn’t you see what they did to me? And you still call them friends…
Yoshino Junpei’s eyes widened slowly. Glaring at him, he clenched his fists tightly, his nails digging into the flesh of his palms.
“What’s wrong? Why stare at your teacher like that? Are you having mental issues from staying home too long? Haha, joking.”
The middle-aged man laughed, causing his facial fat to quiver. His eyes were almost invisible beneath the folds.
Turning to Yukinoshita and the other girl behind Yoshino Junpei, he continued, “I saw you chatting as I came over. You’re Junpei’s friends too? Aren’t you from another school? I didn’t think Junpei had so many outside-school contacts.”
“Search query: Ask them to help convince him. Being out of school for so long isn’t good.”
A cold voice disrupted his rambling, Yukinoshita Yukino interjected coldly, “We have pressing matters with Junpei. Excuse us.”
“Yitadori-kun, bring Junpei with you.”
She pivoted and left decisively.
