Chapter 134 – Chapter 122 – Satoru Gojo’s Commission 4000
Under the azure sky lies an endless azure sea, and the perfect sunlight warms the golden beach. Behind the beach stands a lush coconut grove.
On the tranquil surface of the sea floats a cute red octopus head.
A few beach chairs are lined up on the soft sand, with a black-haired man lying leisurely in one of them.
Two monsters different in appearance stand beside him.
“The one named Mahito died…?” The cursed spirit with his head resembling Mt. Fuji and an eye occupying most of his face said incredulously.
“Yeah, I didn’t expect that either,” Nue no Sawami, lying on the beach chair, said helplessly as he stretched out his arms. “With those troublesome techniques, it was unbelievable that someone could kill him.”
“Who did this!?”
Nue no Sawami’s volcano-head shape erupted from both sides of the top and sides like a high-pressure cauldron, pouring out three jets of hot vapor. His anger translated clearly through these outward displays.
“I’m not sure. It should be someone from the Higher Specialized School? It seems there came a barrier technique expert. I don’t know if that person had any way to target Mahito.”
Yukio Nue had a curious smile with wide eyes; the information about the unknown person interested him greatly.
“If they didn’t have any soul-attacking means, they couldn’t kill Mahito,” the Special Grade Cursed Spirit Hanaomi said, who has a whitish body with black patterns, his two curved branches growing from his eye sockets.
“It’s also possible someone else besides the barrier expert killed Mahito,” Yukio Nue propped his head up with his hand unexpectedly.
“What do you mean by that?” Nue no Sawami narrowed his eyes.
“I saw traces of Ryomen Sukuna’s cursed energy at the scene. Maybe it was an accidental trigger of Sukuna that killed Mahito.”
“What!? Did the container let Sukuna out?”
“I don’t know. There’s too little information, and I cannot appear before anyone from the Higher Specialized School now, so I didn’t investigate the scene.”
Yukio Nue sighed heavily: “Mahito’s death impacts my plans. We can’t carry out our infiltration plan to steal the six fingers and the Nine Images Diagram from Higher Specialized School as planned.”
“This made Ryomen Sukuna’s stance unclear now…” after a brief pause, he continued, “What are your thoughts? Continue the original plan and offer all fingers to Sukuna, or something else?”
Nue no Sawami sat down on another beach chair, his head slightly bowed. Moments later, he clapped his hands onto his thighs: “Continue. No matter what, Sukuna, as a cursed force, can’t remain aligned with humans.”
“If someone laughs at the wasteland a century later, it doesn’t necessarily have to be us. As long as the cursed force replaces the human position, that’s enough for me.”
“Fine then.” Yukio Nue stood up from the beach chair, “Looks like we need to modify the plans a bit. Without precise positioning, it will be difficult to find the Higher Specialized School’s storage place of cursed items within their barrier.”
“We need time…”
Also, if we can test the true identity of the barrier specialist, that would be ideal.
A flash of light passed over Yukio Nue’s eyes.
Satoru Gojo, you’ve done these things before—let me do it once more…
…
The final exams concluded, and Soubu High entered the much-anticipated summer break.
Holidays, shopping, the sea, and beaches; for students, this truly marked the arrival of summer vacation.
One week after the exams ended, the students’ grades were revised and finalized.
Yukino Yukinohiya’s overall score had declined but still secured her spot as the first in class.
Exam paper difficulty fluctuates every time, causing natural variations in scores—a fact that shattered the hopeful teacher’s attempts to gauge her student’s current state of affairs through her grades.
Inquiring directly would likely lead to the same vague responses, yielding no substantial information. Hiratsuka Shizuka was bound to continue her frustration.
Even during the break, Yukinoshita Yukino maintained a healthy routine, waking naturally early each morning.
Sitting up in bed, she wore a thin white sleepshirt. Upon waking up, one side of the wide collar slid off, revealing smooth, rosy shoulders. Her silky black hair naturally spread across the pillow, with a few strands curling slightly, adding a touch of charm to the drowsy girl.
After sitting on the bed for a while with half-open eyes, her consciousness gradually returned, allowing Yukino to leave the bed, change into comfortable clothing, and then proceed to wash up after leaving the room.
“Hmm…?”
The black-haired girl, after completing her hygiene, instinctively looked toward the balcony, where she failed to see her familiar acquaintance in the wicker chair today.
Was it because RIN Qi Kun overslept?
Curiosity led Yukinoshita Yukino toward the guest room, which currently belonged to RIN Qi.
Seeing the closed door, she hesitated and then knocked lightly.
Knock knock.
“RIN Qi Kun? Are you still asleep?”
Getting no response to her greeting, the black-haired girl blinked twice and whispered softly, “I’ll come in now.”
To her surprise, the door was unlocked; a simple twist of the handle let her open RIN Qi’s door.
As the owner of this apartment, Yukinoshita Yukino knew well its layout. The room remained exactly as before.
RIN Qi did not change the furniture arrangement but added a computer desk after moving in for placing his new PC.
Yukinoshita immediately spotted the black-haired young man seated in the office chair, gazing intently at the monitor, typing furiously on the keyboard, fast enough to create a blur.
Curiously glancing at the screen displaying what seemed to be a game, the black-haired youth conversed with a player in the chat channel.
About the conversation…
Unwilling to pry further and feeling somewhat disturbed, Yukinoshita withdrew her gaze.
Turned out, there were other ways to insult people…
No, the key point was that RIN Qi Kun could also be this short-tempered. Of course, perhaps this was due to the unbridgeable wall placed by the virtual world, allowing him to express himself more freely in personality.
“Good morning, RIN Qi Kun.”
Gently opening her conversation, Yukinoshita acknowledged. Despite knowing the young man was wearing headphones, he must have been aware of her presence due to his acute senses.
“Did you stay up all night gaming?”
“Oh, yes. Had nothing better to do anyway.”
RIN Qi appeared to have ended his battle, hands leaving the keyboard.
He glanced at the clock and raised an eyebrow: “Huh, it’s so late. Are you here to wake me up for breakfast?”
“No, breakfast hasn’t even started. Just a little curious because I couldn’t find you in my usual spots, thus checking in.”
Tucking a stray strand behind her ear, Yukinoshita’s gaze became stern.
“Thought you were just sleeping in. But to stay up all night gaming instead…isn’t your daily routine a bit unhealthy?”
“That’s okay, I won’t get sick anyway.” Indifferently leaning back against the chair, RIN Qi commented casually.
“Hmph, do whatever you want. Since you’re only a temporary guest, I shouldn’t butt into your private life.” With that, the girl turned around and walked away.
“Although, if you want handouts from meals, please stick to regular eating times. Otherwise, you’d inconvenience me!”
“Got it, got it, chef Yukinoshita.”
RIN Qi replied half-heartedly as he followed her out of the room.
“On another note, what do you think about Saito’s entrustment commission?” Yukinoshita asked.
“Oh, that matter. I haven’t agreed yet.” RIN Qi nonchalantly sat at the dining table, acting much like an insect waiting for food, “Helping that guy does not feel right to me.”
He scratched his nose, recalling the scene back then.
“Speaking of RIN Qi,”
Outside Saïto’s home, when everyone was full and ready to go their separate ways, Satoru Gojo called out to Rin Qi, intending to take Yukinoshita Yukinohiya and the brother-sister pair away.
“Huh? Do you want to die?”
Turning around at the given nickname, Rin Qi bared his teeth angrily.
Disregarding his calm but foreboding gaze, Satoru smiled and said, “I wish you could look into some matters for me.”
“Due to various reasons, I am quite busy and would like to request your investigation into the group formed by Special Grade Cursed Spirits.”
“From inside Higher Specialized School, I suspect there’s an insider working with the cursed sorcerer. I will handle the investigation on our end, while for the cursed sorcerers’ side, I hope you can assist.”
“At a loss…” Yukinohiya was standing next to Rin Qi, stunned, “Cursed Sorcerers collaborating with cursed spirits?”
“Not necessarily with cursed spirits. He might think he’s cooperating just with cursed sorcerers,” Satoru explained, “Though I doubt someone that foolish would ever work with cursed spirits.”
“I will provide compensation. Considering I am the head of the Gojo family, there are rich rewards I can offer.”
“Would you consider it?”
The man with a black eye patch gazed at Rin Qi with a smiling face.
“Guess I would?” Rin Qi raised an eyebrow.
“Let’s say, how would you react?” Satoru shrugged helplessly.
“Those Special Grade Cursed Spirits… What are they up to?” Yukinohiya asked nearby.
“Don’t know. Though it sure wasn’t anything beneficial for anyone involved.” Satoru responded vaguely.
Rin Qi silently watched the black-haired girl looking worried, then he replied, “I’ll consider it, but don’t hold your breath, I’m not certain about agreeing to this.”
With that, he turned around and left with Yukinohiya.
“Pettiness?”
Satoru’s annoying voice echoed again, this time Rin Qi didn’t bother turning around and just flipped him off.
“Say,” pretending not to notice the gesture, Satoru spoke to the black-haired youth from behind, “Which side are you on?”
“Which side?” Rin Qi smirked, “Neither side. I stand for myself alone.”
With that, they rounded a corner and vanished out of Satoru’s sight.
“Ah, being straightforward wouldn’t hurt.” Satoru sighed, “Such lack of appeal.”
“Teacher Satoru! Hurry up and catch up. We’re off!” From behind, students were already making their way, with Itadori urging him along.
“I’m coming, I’m coming!”
Giving a wave, Satoru turned and rushed over, catching up to the students and casually slinging his arm around Itadori.
“Teacher, are we going to Ginza? Want to come along?”
“Sure, let’s grab some snacks while we’re there.”
“Alright!”
Pushing aside Satoru’s irritating grin, Rin Qi leaned over and looked at the black-haired girl tying an apron in the kitchen, asking curiously, “What is it? You seem bothered by this?”
“Assemble a group of Special Grade Cursed Spirits and Cursed Sorcerers, especially when an inside man appears in High Specialized School, they must be planning something evil, no?”
Opening with a cool tone, though with a slight hint of worry in her voice, Yukinohiya added, “If they succeed, many lives may be lost.”
“Do you want to investigate together?” Rin Qi noted her aim, “Could encounter multiple Special Grade Cursed Spirits.”
“Mm-hmm…” The black-haired girl nodded gently. She understood Rin Qi’s hidden intention, and her soft heart stung mildly. However, resolutely, she continued, “Even though my strength may not be sufficient, I still wish to participate where I can do something.”
“You aren’t ready?”
Stopping her action, Yukinohiya cautiously lifted her gaze to look at Rin Qi.
“No problem. Sticking close to me would ensure nothing bad happens.”
Rin Qi shrugged, “I doubt they’d give us much to investigate, that’s why I held off from taking that deadpan blond’s assignment right away. Investigating isn’t really my forte; if I found nothing significant, it would look bad in front of Satoru.”
“Doing something embarrassing in front of Satoru is out of the question.”
“Huh?” Yukinohiya appeared baffled, “How can you know the outcome before attempting it?”
“Fool, our targets are a team consisting of Special Grade Cursed Spirits and a Cursed Sorcerer. They aren’t naïve enough to reveal themselves, are they?”
“The fool from last time, who I think didn’t know my existence, fell victim to his own ignorance.”
“After the incident with him, they’ve become aware of me. Surely, they wouldn’t dare rash actions again.”
Listening to Rin Qi’s reasoning, the black-haired girl only muttered an “Oh,” realizing she hadn’t considered these factors as deeply.
Or it seemed she held unrealistic expectations.
Even RIN Qi Kan couldn’t easily accomplish everything.
“But we can’t just do nothing, right?” Yukinohiya persisted.
“Ah, we’ll just go see. Fingers crossed.”
