Chapter 190 – Escaping Toward the Starry Night
Auditory Hallucination?
Shouldn’t I not be this tired yet?
The voice that flashed through her mind made Yukinoshita Yuno subconsciously look around. However, apart from herself, there was no one else in the restroom.
Besides, even if it’s an auditory hallucination, it shouldn’t be something so bizarre. 0!
Meaningless things about the significance of life and truly living, sounded so foolish.
Yukinoshita Yuno couldn’t help but laugh lightly, and the reflection in the mirror followed suit.
Yet, why did an extra eye appear on the cheek in her reflection?
“…”
“Eh?” The smile on Yukinoshita Yuno’s face froze for a moment, then she continued to make faces at the mirror. Her reflection copied the actions perfectly, except for the eye still present on the right cheek.
“Hmm…”
Flicking her short hair with her fingers while tilting her head, the girl seemed to be in deep thought.
Suddenly, she forced her hand over her cheek, treating it like a mosquito had landed there.
A sharp sound came, accompanied by a pain in her right cheek.
Rubbing her fingers, she felt smoothness.
Yukinoshita Yuno removed her hand from her face, and the extra eye disappeared. Looking at her normal reflection in the mirror, she murmured in confusion, “It’s still my face.”
As soon as she spoke, two eyes opened on either side of her cheeks, directly below her original pair.
“…”
With furrowed brows, Yukinoshita Yuno placed her hands on the marble sink and glared at the mirror, focusing on the extra set of eyes.
They stared at each other for nearly a minute until the short-haired girl blinked due to dry eyes.
Rubbing her eyes, she said to herself, “I guess Mother’s private coaching lately is too much; maybe I’m too tired. It must’ve caused me to hallucinate. I probably need to go to the hospital.”
As she turned to leave, she glanced back at the mirror.
Lin Qi in the domain of the soul was speechless.
What was this girl doing?
“What… are you?”
After a pause, Yukinoshita Yuno asked with a low voice.
“You…” Lin Qi finally spoke up, a mouth forming on the girl’s cheek which opened and closed repeatedly, “there’s a lot more difference between your current self and your future self than that.”
“Do you know me?” Yuno raised her brows further.
“Of course,” Lin Qi replied, “not only do I know you, but also your sister.”
“Liar!” the short-haired girl retorted with certainty.
“… Do you think I’d fall for that?”
Lin Qi rolled his eyes, exasperated.
This junior high Yuno was just as boisterous as ever?
When her usual tricks didn’t work, Yukinoshita Yuno crossed her arms with a furrowed brow.
Could she really not get through to her?
Come to think of it, hasn’t this situation been like one of those fantastical stories recommended by friends at school?
All she grumbled about were the lack of freedom in life, and now these eyes appeared. Could this be like some sort of demon from those stories?
An entity that tempts desires with charming words, distorts others’ wishes to assist them, but makes them forfeit their souls to demons in the afterlife.
“Are you a demon?” Yuno tentatively asked.
“No…”
“And would you grant my wish?” she added.
“… It depends on your wishes.”
“Then what’s the price?” the short-haired girl became serious.
“There’s no cost, it all depends on how I feel.”
“Nothing’s free, Mr. Demon, surely you don’t fail to understand such simple truths?” Yuno sneered.
In the domain, a vein twitched in Lin Qi’s eye.
Is this brat dissing me?
Seeing him silenced, she smiled smugly.
Indeed, as she expected, this creature was merely a third-rate demon, relying on rhetoric and pacts. As long as she avoided getting entangled in his verbal traps, she wouldn’t be harmed.
So what if she was a middle school student?
Don’t underestimate middle school students!
Apart from coping with the simple school courses, she also had her mother’s endless training sessions, learning how to flatter people, to read the room—qualities very different from ordinary middle school students!
But the next moment, Yukinoshita Yuno found that she couldn’t control her body anymore, forcing a smile.
“What’s happening…”
She looked at herself in the mirror, discovering black lines slowly creeping out on her face, apart from the eyes and mouth – looking terrible!
“Think you’re tough now?” Lin Qi whispered darkly.
Yuno saw her hand lift itself and tightly grip her cheek, pulling fiercely.
“Ahh….” The short-hair girl murmured indistinctly, “Not showing off, huh…”
What’s happening!
So, this thing isn’t some low-level demon after all, but a powerful one that controls her directly!
Seeing Yuno beg, Lin Qi ceased intimidating her and returned control to her body.
Regaining control, Yuno sighed in relief.
It seemed this devil wasn’t planning any immediate harm toward her life, but for what reason he’d approached her remained unclear.
“Blaming a bit of juvenile behavior might be excusable given your privileged upbringing, outstanding abilities, and rapid growth driven by strict family pressure, yet, lacking true maturity, feeling pride upon encountering differences with peers can’t be helped,” Lin Qi began preaching, teacher’s habits kicking in.
“But sometimes, arrogance like this can hurt you. Taking risks without confidence in your ability to manage the unusual, like earlier, isn’t wise.”
“Irritating an entity you don’t understand offers no benefit.”
Yukinoshita Yuno nodded in agreement.
“So, what are you? Demon? Spirit?” Curiosity shone on her lovely face. “Guess I always thought supernatural beings existed, but humans remain ignorant.”
This was consistent with the Yuno of the future.
Immediately becoming curious once assured Lin Qi posed no threat.
“Not either. I’m Lin Qi, a friend of another you,” Lin Qi smiled.
“Now, perhaps interested in escaping together toward the night sky?”
…
