Chapter 448: The Result of the Immortal Artifact
The immortal artifact had yielded a result.
However, for Xi Lan, this result was extremely shocking.
It was evident that Qin Shili’s remarks were icy and confrontational, repeatedly accusing Lin Nuo to his face without regard for his dignity, indicating her intense dislike for him.
She even thought that if Qin Shili and Lin Nuo weren’t from the same sect and hadn’t met at Tianling Mountain, Qin Shili might have beaten Lin Nuo up in anger.
Xi Lan was worried about how badly Qin Shili’s feelings toward Lin Nuo had soured. Would the water in the immortal artifact show an extremely dark black color?
If so, it would require severe measures, exhausting her efforts to interfere with Qin Shili’s emotions.
But that was not permitted. If she couldn’t complete this task, she’d probably be expelled by Master Yue.
She was ready for a do-or-die fight.
However…
The water in the artifact was a shocking crimson, a sign of overflowing affection.
What did overflowing affection mean?
It indicated extreme obsession for the person of interest, seeing only them, unable to tolerate anyone else, to the extent of living and dying for that person, wishing to be inseparable every day.
This was what puzzled her immensely.
If affection was overflowing, why would Qin Shili speak harshly to him? She should be showering him with sweet words and treating him amicably.
But that was clearly not happening!
Moreover, if Qin Shili’s affection for Lin Nuo was overflowing, how could there be talk of Lin Nuo failing to pursue her and being ignored?
If so, they would be a true mutual attraction and would have long since married.
It just didn’t make sense—absolutely no sense at all.
No matter how she thought about it, Qin Shili’s attitude showed no signs of overflowing affection for Lin Nuo.
What about Lin Nuo’s feelings for Qin Shili?
Xi Lan tried some minor magic, aiming to see the result of Lin Nuo’s affection for Qin Shili.
Yet the outcome this time left her equally astounded.
The water was gone.
This was something she’d never seen before.
The water was missing, leaving her unsure of its color—was it colorless and transparent, black, red, or white? Not a trace was visible.
It was bizarre; how could it disappear? Where had the water gone?!
As a result, Xi Lan couldn’t ascertain Lin Nuo’s feelings toward Qin Shili at all.
Did he like her? Was he pursuing her? Those were all superficial phenomena; the most direct indication should rely on the affection-measuring artifact.
But the result was that the water was gone—no result.
Now this situation with these two characters was making her anxious.
One showed overflowing affection, while the other had no display at all—when results were finally revealed, she lost all direction.
What should she determine next?
Her master hadn’t taught her anything about this.
At that moment, Lin Nuo and Qin Shili were in a verbal sparring match. Both suddenly realized that Xi Lan had pulled out a peculiar spirit tool, leaving them puzzled.
“What is that?”
Lin Nuo asked, leaning in for a closer look.
He’d never seen something like this; it was clear it wasn’t a highly lethal immortal tool, considering that kind of thing had once been used against him.
Besides, this Xi girl clearly looked like a young immortal; whatever she held in her hand couldn’t be anything valuable—she was just curious because she hadn’t seen it before.
“It’s just an ordinary immortal tool for detecting the spirit energy level in the mountain.”
“So, you were curious and wanted to check it out?” Lin Nuo continued asking.
“Hm, I thought the spirit energy here was rich, so I wanted to measure it.”
“You sound like a spy.”
“Ah? Young Master Lin, I mean no harm; I just wanted to take a look. If it goes against the rules of the Xuanyun Sect, I won’t use it.” Xi Lan said apologetically.
“No, feel free.”
Lin Nuo shrugged it off, not pursuing the issue. He wouldn’t mind if she were a spy, but thinking about it, it was unlikely—such crude methods wouldn’t last through two conversations.
“Don’t change the topic. When will you come train with me?” Qin Shili chimed in, her tone extremely assertive, uncaring about what spirit tool Xi Lan was using.
“Definitely next time.” Lin Nuo replied nonchalantly.
“I feel like you’re mocking me.”
“Am I?”
“Isn’t that so? Almost every time you say that. Lin Nuo, I can trust you many times, but you should know that those who are pressured too much will eventually resist. If you deceive me too much, I can’t guarantee what will happen.”
Qin Shili complained coldly, seemingly indifferent to Xi Lan’s presence.
Xi Lan found this increasingly odd. Previously, she heard Qin Shili chastising Lin Nuo, and now speaking of deception—what kind of complex relationship existed between them?
Remembering that overflowing affection, it remained a mystery.
To this, Xi Lan was genuinely curious and interjected softly:
“Qin girl, may I ask, how do you view Young Master Lin?”
Qin Shili cast a cold glance at her, conveying a cruel and arrogant attitude of a strong person toward a weaker one, and coldly stated:
“He is the most outstanding man, the one I admire the most.”
“Ah? Most admired?”
“Yes, so are you coming to challenge me?”
Qin Shili had already drawn her Ice Blade, a heavy aura of cold air accompanying it, causing the grass beneath to show signs of freezing.
“N-no, I didn’t mean that. How could I dare to challenge you, Qin girl, with my level? That would just be self-inflicted boredom!”
Xi Lan repeatedly shook her hands in refusal, as if she hadn’t said anything out of line and was suddenly trying to challenge Qin Shili.
Lin Nuo shook his head:
“I say, Second Martial Sister, who among your peers could possibly defeat you? Are you trying to bully the weak?”
“You.”
Qin Shili pointed her sword at Lin Nuo.
“I couldn’t possibly win against you.”
“Come on, a single sword could chop me to bits, stop with the weird flattery!” Lin Nuo shrugged, exasperated.
Qin Shili: “I know you look down on me.”
Lin Nuo froze: “What makes you think I look down on you?”
Qin Shili: “For such a strong person to say I could kill you is merely to belittle me for not being able to kill you.”
Lin Nuo was shocked: “Isn’t it normal for you to chop me up? And I looked down on you? What kind of logic is that?”
Qin Shili continued to refute: “You look down on me again. It’s fine; you have your strengths. I don’t expect to surpass you one day; being closer to you is enough.”
“Fine, whatever makes you happy.”
Lin Nuo couldn’t be bothered to argue further with this Second Martial Sister with a questionable mindset; perhaps it was him who couldn’t grasp her way of thinking.
With a little whirlwind around his legs, he leaped backwards.
“Farewell.”
With that, Lin Nuo whooshed away, disappearing from sight.
When it came to fleeing, he was always at a hall-of-fame level.
Qin Shili didn’t plan to pursue him; anyway, if he ran, she wouldn’t catch up, so she dropped the thought.
Xi Lan watched as Lin Nuo sped away, vanishing in a flash.
With Lin Nuo gone, it left just Xi Lan and Qin Shili—no outsiders, allowing Xi Lan to delve deeper into matters.
“Qin girl, you just said you admire Young Master Lin, and he admires you too…”
“I already mentioned, he looks down on me; there’s nothing of admiration in that.”
Qin Shili responded with a cold tone, then with a strong persona, she mocked:
“Of course, he wouldn’t look up to you either.”
