Chapter 497: The Meeting
In the Stronghold of the Refining Demon Sect.
After Lin Nuo rescued Ling Meng from her dreams, the magic within her was dispelled, her condition improved, and she promptly sat cross-legged on the bed, regulating her breath. Before long, she returned to her normal state, and even felt better than before.
“The breathing technique Master taught me is really impressive. I feel much more awake than during the day.”
Ling Meng took a deep breath, her hands making a downward gesture, signaling that her adjustment was complete.
“I wonder how my subordinates are doing now.”
Ling Meng removed her thin nightgown and changed into the dark purple robe of Wei Sheng, the leader of the Refining Demon Sect. She applied heavy makeup and styled her long hair before stepping out of her room.
“Ling Young Mistress.”
A female Demon Disciple waiting outside greeted Ling Meng respectfully.
“Is there something the Young Mistress needs? Is there a change of clothes tonight?”
“I just heard noise from afar. I was in the middle of regulating my breath and didn’t pay it much mind. What happened?”
“It’s from the town over there, and there’s also a fire. It must be a conflict caused by vendetta,” the female Demon Disciple replied.
“Is there any disturbance here?”
“For now, just some Fierce Beasts attacking, but they’ve been slain by the stationed disciples.”
“What about those disciples who were affected by the spells? Take me to see them.”
“By the way, Young Mistress, some of them have already recovered. The magic has been dispelled, and we didn’t want to disturb your rest,” the female Demon Disciple responded.
“Recovered? That’s good. It seems their previous training has had results, allowing them to adjust themselves,” Ling Meng smiled.
“Young Mistress, it’s not that they adjusted themselves well. Even though I haven’t entered Tian Lin, I’ve been somewhat affected; strange voices often appear in my mind, but I can hold on. Then, it just disappeared, like the other Demon Disciples’ sudden disappearance.”
“Hmm? When?”
“After the riot in the distant town ended,” the female Demon Disciple replied.
“Hmm? That happened?”
Ling Meng was puzzled, but there was a time difference with her own spells disappearing; she was fine after her Master rescued her from the dream.
She had that dream and wanted to continue sleeping, but after tossing and turning, she just couldn’t fall asleep, so she got up and used her regulating technique to adjust.
She believed her Master came specifically to save her, appearing just when she was about to despair, easily defeating those vile enemies.
Finally, he even lifted her chin and said he wanted her to be his woman.
Then he sat on the throne, and she perched on his thigh.
Then she kissed him, enjoying his affection.
Then he picked her up, intending to carry her back to his quarters for even better pampering.
And then, then there was nothing more; she woke up from the dream.
It angered her, though, as she wanted to fall back asleep and return to that dream, but she just couldn’t do it.
“Ling Young Mistress, you have a letter.”
At that moment, a subordinate rushed in to hand Ling Meng an envelope.
“Whose letter is it?”
“The envelope didn’t indicate the sender. The messenger’s surname is Kuai and given name is Di Yuan, but he didn’t write it; he’s responsible for delivering it and said it’s important, that you’ll know when you see it.”
Having spent time with Lin Nuo, Ling Meng became cautious. She worried that the letter might be laced with poison or something, so she didn’t approach it.
“Have you checked for poison?”
“I have checked, Young Mistress.”
“I’m still not at ease; put the letter on the ground.”
Immediately, the subordinate placed the letter on the ground, and Ling Meng set up a formation. It was a tense time; she couldn’t let her guard down.
Ling Meng began performing her spell to check for toxins or harmful substances in the letter.
After a series of spells, she concluded that there was no poison inside.
“No poison, give me the letter.”
“Yes.”
The subordinate complied, picking up the letter and handing it to Ling Meng.
Ling Meng’s expression turned serious as she opened the envelope to review the letter.
Upon seeing the three characters inside, she lost her composure.
Wu Ying Ge, it was indeed his handwriting.
Regardless of what he wrote, just seeing those three characters made her lose her calm; the seriousness on her face vanished, and her heart began to race.
This is a letter from my Master, what does he want to tell me?
Ling Meng scanned the contents of the letter. It wasn’t lengthy, and its general meaning was:
“This place is unsafe. Leave here.”
Ling Meng quickly read it through and flipped it over several times, even wondering if there were any hidden words.
But there were none; nothing out of the ordinary.
This Master of mine, after a hard time getting to write to me, after finally encountering you here, you want me to leave?
I absolutely will not go unless you say it to my face.
Ling Meng thought for a moment and asked:
“Is that messenger still around?”
“Yes, but he’s hiding. He said if you have questions, you can write a letter and leave it by the hole near the locust tree to the north of my stronghold.”
“Alright, I’ll write a letter and personally drop it in the hole.”
Immediately, Ling Meng wrote a letter expressing her concerns that the person might be deceiving her in Wu Ying Ge’s name and insisted on face-to-face communication.
Then she personally went to drop the reply in the small hole and left, hiding nearby to wait for the messenger to come and take the letter away, curious about his appearance.
However, she waited and waited, but no one came to take the letter. Yet, she continued to wait.
In truth, she didn’t realize that while the hole seemed shallow, almost just a small recess, it actually penetrated underground, then reached Lin Nuo nearby.
Lin Nuo received the letter, opened it, and glanced at the contents. It roughly conveyed that she didn’t trust him and needed to meet him; otherwise, she wouldn’t leave and might even request reinforcements from the Refining Demon Sect, claiming that anyone impersonating Wu Ying Ge would have a bad end.
How stubborn of her.
Who did she learn this from?
Good grief, you’re trying to get me killed; isn’t Wu Ying Ge just Lin Nuo in disguise? This person doesn’t even exist in reality.
This letter was futile; previously, he had used his own handwriting and the name Wu Ying Ge to write her a letter, and she responded without a second thought.
Now she’s growing suspicious.
A rebellious disciple indeed.
But she’s right to be cautious; otherwise, if someone imitated his handwriting and wrote her a letter, and she believed it directly, that would be disastrous.
To become a great villain, one shouldn’t rely solely on brute strength; intelligence is also key.
So, he wants to enter the Refining Demon Sect to meet her personally?
Well, that won’t do; when thousands of disciples come to kneel in welcome, he won’t enjoy that atmosphere.
Looking back, it seems he hadn’t cared much about her situation after sending this disciple to the Refining Demon Sect; he didn’t even know what level she’d risen to.
He said he would observe her secretly, yet it had been ages since he came out to meet her.
That’s not going to fool her.
Forget it, meeting her wouldn’t hurt; at least it would strengthen his Master’s imposing image.
Lin Nuo wrote a reply and swiftly ran to the disciples of the Refining Demon Sect, asking them to pass it on to Ling Meng without personally delivering it.
The letter contained instructions for them to agree on a meeting location, prohibiting any subordinates from accompanying them.
He then removed his makeup before applying the disguise of Wu Ying Ge, adding scars to his face to give himself a rogue appearance.
Changing identities, Ni Daye transformed into Wu Ying Ge, with no overlap of their identities.
A quality villain should have many aliases, with each representing a different identity; outsiders would never notice.
Hmm, they would never notice.
