Chapter 5: The Master Is What They Call…
The warmth of the dining table felt like an unimaginable world to Anya.
Just a moment ago, she had thought Roy would use dining etiquette to make things difficult for Alice, given her long list of past mistakes.
But what was happening now?
Holy Light above!
That scoundrel Roy actually had such a gentle side?
Anya even started to suspect that some evil god had possessed the young master.
“Ugh, Master, I can’t eat anymore.”
After another round of being fed, Alice finally held her little belly and shook her head awkwardly.
It was the first time in her life she felt so full.
Alice even thought she’d be satisfied even if she died right now.
Roy was also quite satisfied.
He’d garnered over twenty points of affection in one go, just a little shy of getting Alice’s affection to a positive number!
But since there would be many days ahead, and he had already achieved so much in just one day, there was no need to rush.
“Well, if you’ve eaten enough, let’s go to bed early…”
“Master, I’m ready! I can be privately disciplined any time!” Alice clenched her tiny fist, her face calm but her eyes full of determination.
Alice understood that there’s no such thing as a free lunch, especially when it comes to noble food.
The fact that her Master let her eat so many good things in advance meant that the upcoming discipline would be quite strict, and she had to perform well!
Roy was about to respond when he caught Anya’s sharp glare and promptly swallowed his words.
All new maids had to go through the ‘discipline’ of the ‘scoundrel Roy’ on their first day. It was said to be discipline, but in reality, it was a series of punishments that made maids suffer.
In the original story, Alice was once punished with a whipping in the dungeon.
Of course, Roy didn’t want to harm Alice, but if he didn’t discipline her, Anya would suspect him.
Don’t be fooled by Anya just being a maid; she was an Extraordinary Being who had been childhood friends with Roy’s father, the current head of the Ainbrad family, Carl Ainbrad, earning his deep trust.
“Master?” Alice asked, puzzled.
“No rush, you go take a bath and change your clothes first.” Roy returned to his seat.
After saying that, he glanced at the maids nearby: “You all take her.”
Alice had already cleaned herself before coming, so she wasn’t dirty. It was just that she was still wearing a thin white shirt, which wasn’t too decent, and thankfully her small and delicate figure saved her from exposing anything inappropriate.
But since the Master asked, Alice didn’t question it and obediently followed the maids to bathe.
However, one maid stayed behind.
“Young Master, is it convenient now?” Anya’s tone was respectful, but her sharp gaze conveyed a sense of command.
“Not at all, I actually wanted to talk to you,” Roy gestured for Anya to sit.
“What are you standing there for? Sit down.”
Anya frowned slightly.
With her status, it wasn’t appropriate to sit with nobility.
Especially since the young master was wary of her. He nearly avoided talking whenever possible.
What on earth was going on today?
As she pondered, Anya sat down in the spot Alice had just vacated.
Roy’s lips curled up barely perceptibly.
Good.
Now you’ve entered the range of the effects of the Wind and Night’s Tear!
As an Extraordinary Being, Roy had no reason or ability to get close to Anya.
But Alice’s spot still retained the lingering scent of Wind and Night’s Tear, enough for Roy to achieve his goals.
“Master, I’ll be straightforward.” The head maid caught a faint lavender scent, seemingly puzzled, but not connecting it to any extraordinary item: “You seem different from usual today.”
“I thought you’d ‘discipline’ the new girl like before.”
Anya intentionally emphasized the word ‘discipline’.
“Do you believe I’ve turned over a new leaf?” Roy twirled his knife absentmindedly.
Anya almost couldn’t contain her expression.
Come on now.
We’re all on the same side, and don’t you know your own character?
Useless outside, bullying servants at home, and a total failure at work—not to mention your abysmal character.
She could only return Roy a polite yet awkward smile, ignoring his previous comment.
Seeing this, Roy felt a bit down.
He was mentally prepared, but seeing Anya’s complete distrust in him still hurt a bit.
But the main act was yet to come.
“Anya, do you misunderstand something? Even I wouldn’t go hard on such a little kid.”
Before Alice, ‘scoundrel Roy’ had never seen such a young girl.
Of course, Roy knew that the ‘scoundrel Roy’ of the original work was a brute who could be cruel to little girls.
But Anya was unaware.
If she still held any hope for Roy, she would be confused at this moment.
Sure enough, Anya was taken aback.
To be honest, Roy wasn’t always a scoundrel; he distinctly remembered being just a pure and cute kid back in the day.
Even if the master was terrible, there should be a bottom line.
Anya suddenly felt a bit embarrassed, reflecting on whether she had misjudged Roy too much.
But then, thinking of the despicable things Roy had done over the years, she was filled with frustration.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to believe Roy, but reality had slapped her in the face time and again.
“…You wouldn’t, right?” Anya sounded uncertain.
“Of course not!” Roy emphasized first, then pretended to be mysterious and grinned: “Besides, that kid is special.”
“Special?”
“I’ve actually been complaining all along.” Roy crossed his legs, reminiscing about the emotions of ‘scoundrel Roy’, releasing grievances that didn’t belong to him: “Our maids are all utterly useless!”
“Ugly, foolish, and lazy! Just a bunch of wastes!”
“It’s not that I can’t keep some useless folks, but this young master won’t allow such wastes to be my personal maid!”
Anya’s eyes shifted oddly upon hearing this: “You want to take Alice as your personal maid?”
A personal maid is someone who dedicates themselves entirely, serving for a lifetime. Only personal maids refer to their master as ‘Master’.
So Anya and the others call Roy ‘Young Master’.
“Exactly!” Roy slammed the table, his eyes shining with fervor!
“Those wastes have grown up without hope.”
“So this young master wants to cultivate a perfect maid from a young age!”
“She’ll be as cute as the morning sun, as wise as a learned sage, as hardworking as a bee in a flower garden, and as flawless as an angel!”
—And just as invincible as the protagonists in those stories!
“That’s the kind of maid I want!”
As he rambled on, as Roy expected, the usually composed Anya was now left dumbfounded, frozen in place.
Even with Wind and Night’s Tear, Roy didn’t believe he could instantly change the negative impression he had in Anya’s mind.
This was a long game.
But making her believe that he meant no harm to Alice wasn’t impossible.
A whimsical young master determined to create the perfect servant slowly awakens to his sins and repents with the little maid by his side!
That’s the act Roy wanted to perform for Anya and the other servants!
To make Anya believe in his goodwill towards Alice while planting a seed in her heart for his reformation!
Two birds with one stone!
“To confirm, you won’t discipline Alice like the other maids?” Anya covered her forehead, as if still digesting the statement.
“Of course not. She’s still young, she needs to grow gradually.”
“…I understand then, I won’t interfere with how you discipline Alice today.”
Roy took a satisfied sip of red wine, feeling pleased with his successful scheme.
Little did he know, Anya was experiencing tremendous inner turmoil.
Why did the young master keep emphasizing ‘she’s still young’?
Recalling how Roy’s eyes lit up with excitement when he talked about Alice, Anya shuddered inexplicably.
Highlighting the point.
The young master didn’t suddenly turn over a new leaf.
He suddenly showed tenderness towards a pretty little golden-haired girl while talking about some nurturing!
Other maids? Not a chance!
Golden-haired loli? Definitely a chance!
Could it be that the young master is what they call…
A lolicon…
Anya began to worry about Alice’s future from another perspective.
