Chapter 79: Human, You Can’t Help Me
Roy understood that while griffins were proud, they weren’t mindless beasts.
On the contrary, with proper communication, they could be quite reasonable.
The reason these contestants failed was simply that they hadn’t chosen the right targets.
It’s like trying to impress a carnivore with a plate of lettuce, or sending plenty of racy pictures of curvy ladies to a lolicon lover—totally lost in translation!
Unable to watch any longer, Roy stepped in to help direct a few griffins to find their right matches.
Before long, all the griffins in the sky learned that Roy could speak griffin language and was incredibly kind, and they flocked to him.
The other contestants surrounded by griffins were left in shock.
They had been battling and tossing coins for hours, and yet this guy just strolled around and attracted all the attention?!
“Why… why are all the griffins flying towards Roy?”
“And none of them are attacking him!”
“What the heck did he do?!”
In the chaos of flapping griffin wings, no one noticed the subtle details of Roy’s lips.
From their perspective, it seemed like Roy was just walking casually, and a bunch of griffins were magnetically drawn to him!
After much confusion, someone finally blurted out, “Could it be because he’s handsome?!”
The other contestants wanted to scoff but then thought about Roy’s jaw-dropping looks that made countless noble ladies swoon, and they were suddenly left speechless!
Yet, for some reason, the griffins soon took off from Roy and dove back toward them.
Those claws could pierce armor, giving them a massive psychological scare.
Just when they thought they were headed for yet another brutal battle, they quickly realized that these griffins had seemingly changed their disposition and were now gracefully landing instead!
The warriors were now seeking fighters, the hungry were looking for food carriers, and those hoping to find handsome gentlemen were not disappointed either.
In no time, everyone was busy, with more and more griffins successfully recognizing their masters, leading the audience into rounds of applause.
“Why does it feel like this year’s griffin trial is going unusually smoothly?” Leisha wondered aloud.
Rob, however, chuckled heartily, not caring about the details, “Who cares! Isn’t it great that there are more griffin knights now?!”
Many sharp-eyed contestants had already noticed that the closer they got to Roy, the easier it was for the griffins matching their taming techniques to pick them.
After all, the closer they were, the easier Roy could point the griffins in the right direction…
Thus, griffins chose their ideal masters, contestants became the griffin knights of their dreams, the audience got to witness an exciting trial, and the kingdom delighted in the emergence of more griffin knights—everyone was coming out ahead!
However, Roy’s bet with Leo was still incomplete.
“See? I told you Roy would be fine!” Charlotte shot a provocation at Leo.
Leo sneered coldly, “So what if the griffins don’t attack him? If no griffin recognizes him as their master in the end, it’s still his defeat!”
Charlotte was momentarily speechless, her excitement gradually dampening.
True, even if Roy escaped injury and ended up on top, if he didn’t receive the griffins’ acknowledgment, he would still lose the bet.
Strangely, how could so many griffins be circling around Roy, yet none were choosing him?
In reality, the situation was the complete opposite of what the siblings believed.
“Hey there, do you want to ride me?! (griffin language)”
“I just love that sweet talk! I want to be with you! (griffin language)”
“Black fur is so rare! We love black fur! (griffin language)”
A number of griffins had already expressed their desire to recognize him, but Roy had temporarily turned them down.
“Thanks, everyone, but I’d like to meet all the griffins before deciding, okay?”
“Sure thing!” “I’ll save you a spot!” “I only want the black one!”
Roy was surprised to find that these creatures were more chatty than what was recorded in the book “Griffin Behavior,” and they weren’t as disorderly as people thought.
It made sense, after all; that book was an ancient relic from thousands of years ago. After years of domestication, griffins had softened their attitudes toward humans considerably.
It was just that they looked too fierce and often didn’t bother approaching the right people, giving off an aggressive vibe.
Time passed second by second, and more participants were proudly riding off on their griffins.
In the end, only Roy remained, successfully reaching the peak of Griffin Ridge.
Whether it was commoners, nobles, or contestants riding away on griffins, everyone found this scene utterly puzzling.
Clearly, this guy seemed to be adored by the griffins; how was it that he hadn’t been recognized by any?
The usually aloof Leo couldn’t help but chuckle at that moment: “See? Only he hasn’t been acknowledged by the griffins. This bet is obviously his loss.”
Charlotte anxiously stared at Roy’s silhouette on the projection, having no time to respond to Leo’s provocation.
But just then, above the towering mountains and in the clear skies, a golden flash cut through the air!
Amidst the crowd’s gasp, a powerful and swift figure descended from the sky, crashing down before Roy like thunder!
With an eagle’s head and a lion’s body, this was the Stormwind Griffin.
Unlike those circling in the air, this griffin boasted a rich brown coat, and its plump wings sparkled with luxurious golden hues; as the wings fluttered, gorgeous lightning crackled!
It was wrapped in golden lightning, facing the sky with an arrogant tilt of its head, gracefully spreading its wings, resembling the most lofty king atop the mountains!
“What the heck is that?”
“The royal griffin? Is Roy from the royal family?”
“You dolt! The royal griffin is golden-red; that one is a Golden-Winged Griffin!”
Both commoners and nobles alike were astonished by this extraordinary magical creature far beyond their understanding.
“What is that…?!” Even the worldly Rob couldn’t help but widen his eyes in excitement.
“A Golden-Winged Griffin? Does this thing actually exist?!”
“Golden-Winged Griffin?” Leo had never heard of such a term.
“Of course, it’s said to be the king of Stormwind Griffins, and the royal griffins’ lineage originates from here! I thought it was just an old fairy tale created by the previous generation. I can’t believe this thing actually exists! Dammit, if I had known, I wouldn’t have wasted my time on that idiot from [Flame of Flying]! ” Rob’s eyes sparkled with long-lost enthusiasm, spewing words, seemingly like a child filled with excitement.
Good thing Leisha timely clutched him by the waist, stopping his frenzy.
Charlotte was stunned for a moment and then came to her senses, a look of excitement spreading across her face: “So Roy plans to tame the king of griffins?!”
According to “Griffin Behavior,” the true bloodline of the griffin king had long been extinguished in the First Era.
Throughout the years, some lucky individuals would occasionally exhibit ancestral traits, displaying some characteristics. Although they couldn’t carry on the lineage of the griffin royalty, they were kings of their own time.
Roy had never agreed to any other griffin because he wanted to stroll around a bit for luck, and unexpectedly, he hit the jackpot!
Roy suppressed his excitement, politely and friendly introduced himself in griffin language to this Golden-Winged Griffin.
“I am Roy Ainbrad, here for the griffin trial!”
“If you acknowledge me as your master, I am willing to fulfill your requests to the best of my abilities!”
However, the Golden-Winged Griffin narrowed its eyes and sighed leisurely.
“Human, go back. You can’t help me.”
