Chapter 526: Something Feels Off
“Young Master, where are we going?”
“To the interrogation room.”
“But isn’t the interrogation room over there? And when did we have a secret passage?”
Liu Shuqin was baffled; Lin Nuo said he was taking them to the interrogation room but was instead leading them through a tunnel.
Moreover, the prison guards along the way didn’t seem to find anything odd.
“It’s a different location; we must go this way. You’re prisoners, aren’t you supposed to know less than me?”
Lin Nuo countered sharply, no one understood the way to the interrogation room better than him.
Of course, this wasn’t really the route to the interrogation room; it was actually a way to escape.
Reminded of a famous saying: this is my escape route!
The tunnel was hidden, previously dug by someone else, but having been involved in the underworld for a long time, Lin Nuo had the connections and resources. Although the previous prison warden was a righteous man, it didn’t mean every guard was upright. A few bribes, and he quickly found out where the tunnel was located.
The tunnel itself was long and dimly lit; he had to start a fire to light the way.
Originally, he was just supposed to break the rebel leader out, but now he had brought Liu Shuqin along too. He needed to rescue both of them; otherwise, he wouldn’t have good answers for the other guards’ questions and might even have to go back to fetch her.
Bringing them both out made things easier; after all, he was following orders to bring them out, and everyone knew he was heading to the interrogation room.
Just as they were headed toward the tunnel.
“By the way, there’s no need for the shackles now.”
Lin Nuo looked at the heavy shackles on their hands and feet, which made it difficult to walk and slowed them down.
So, he needed to unlock them.
However, his colleagues in the prison hadn’t given him the keys to unlock the shackles. He wasn’t like Wu Qian, who had a toothpick to pick locks; he needed other means.
Using brute force wouldn’t work; these shackles were specially made, and forcing them open would trigger an alarm—worse, it could explode, drawing attention from above while they were in the tunnel.
Now was the time to showcase his skills.
Lin Nuo was truly skilled, adept at various techniques and possessing a multitude of talents.
Unlocking was one of those skills.
These locks were equipped with alarm devices; any slight mishap would trigger the alarms, alerting the world.
If anyone noticed he was taking people through the tunnel, they could activate the alarm mechanisms in the shackles, leading to their discovery.
So, the first step was to disable the alarms.
Lin Nuo had finely crafted tools with him: a small hammer, clips, scissors, and a spirit detection device among other portable tools.
He had seen similar devices before and knew how to dismantle them.
It was like defusing a bomb; the shackles contained spirit pattern lines, and one wrong cut would set off the alarm.
If he forcibly broke the handcuffs, it would also trigger the alarm.
Using the light from the fire, Lin Nuo started working as a technician, demonstrating his exceptional skills.
He used the delicate spirit detection device to check the spirit patterns in the shackles; each had subtle differences that could be displayed on the detector.
Then, he identified which spirit lines would trigger the alarm and avoided them.
Alright, he had a general outline; he avoided the spirit lines and prepared to break the lock with brute force.
With the small hammer, scissors, and other destructive tools, he skillfully dodged the spirit lines and broke the lock.
He even had a silencer, muting the sound of the lock breaking.
Soon, cracks appeared in the handcuffs, widening until they were completely shattered.
The rebel leader’s lock was simpler, so it was quickly undone, while Liu Shuqin’s lock was designed specifically to prevent her from using spirit techniques to shatter the shackles, with a stronger defense system.
But for Lin Nuo, it was all just a matter of time.
Before long, the shackles on Liu Shuqin’s hands and feet were also removed.
“Little brother, what are you doing?”
The rebel leader asked, confused as to why they had destroyed the locks before going to the interrogation room.
“Without the shackles, we can move quickly. We can’t waste time.”
Lin Nuo patted the rebel leader’s shoulder meaningfully:
“Better behave properly from now on.”
“…”
He just couldn’t comprehend what the guard’s intentions were, simply heading to the interrogation room, yet it felt like he was being liberated.
Besides, he was wrongly accused by Zhou Cheng; it wasn’t as if he had committed a crime on purpose.
Liu Shuqin had already pieced together what was happening; it was clear that he was rescuing the two of them and that the statement about going to the interrogation room was a ruse to mislead.
What kind of interrogation room required a tunnel? That was nonsense!
Was this now officially a prison break?
But if they were innocent and they broke out, wouldn’t that just add to their charges?
However…
This was Lin Nuo’s decision, and he must be right.
As they said, behind every successful man is a strong woman; since Lin Nuo chose this path, she would follow his lead, casting aside her previous thoughts about justice being self-evident and non-resistance.
Following him, everything would work itself out.
They traversed the long tunnel, and suddenly a light glimmered ahead, causing them to squint before adjusting to the brightness above ground.
They emerged.
“Where is this?”
Liu Shuqin felt a bit disoriented, unfamiliar with the place, only noting it was far from the marketplace and sparsely populated.
“Let’s go; don’t dawdle.”
Lin Nuo said, ready to continue on the original route; after exiting the tunnel, the next step was to leave the city.
How to exit the city? Without a tunnel, they could create a diversion; he’d go to the Black Market to hire some thugs, then he would draw attention, allowing the rebel leader to escape.
The plan was solid; they needed to hurry.
“Little brother, were you actually here to rescue us?”
The rebel leader asked at that moment.
Lin Nuo turned back. Now that they were here, no need to hide:
“Yes, I came to rescue you, so hurry up and let’s go.”
“That’s not wise; we’re innocent, but if we break out, it becomes a crime and complicates things.”
“Innocent? You were already rebelling; don’t act all righteous now.”
Lin Nuo couldn’t wrap his head around it; he was a rebel leader looking to clear his name as if showering with liquid soap could wash it all away.
“We should just follow him.”
Liu Shuqin echoed Lin Nuo’s words, after all, she intended to become his partner, so of course, she would support him.
Lin Nuo found it strange; Liu Shuqin, who was wrongly accused, didn’t mind being cleared of her name, yet the rebel leader still wanted to clear his name, acting all sanctimonious.
At that moment, a figure dressed in black ran over to assist him.
This was a friend Lin Nuo had met in the Black Market, and he had asked him to come to Huan Tian City to lend a hand to rescue the leader.
“Brother Li, there’s news! The rebels are rapidly approaching Huan Tian City; the situation is urgent.”
“Oh? The rebels are coming?”
Lin Nuo thought to himself, just after rescuing the leader, the rebels showed up—was this heaven helping him?
“Oh no! The rebels are here, and my Liu family’s army is still being detained by Zhou Cheng. What should we do?”
The rebel leader panicked, talking to himself.
Lin Nuo: “?”
Something feels off?
