Chapter 119: Can’t Sleep Alone
“I’m sure it’s fine. By the way, I’ve explained before that I have Blood Clan abilities.”
“Then lift your shirt.”
Roy was stunned. Thinking this guy was still trying to mess with him—
But Leanna looked dead serious, radiating the vibe of a senior: “I’m not joking.”
“Let me see.”
Roy was taken aback.
In resignation, he complied and lifted his shirt.
The original wound had mostly healed, but the skin looked as fresh as a newborn’s, distinctly different from the surrounding area.
Leanna reached out her hand, gently touching it with her fingertip, as if handling some fragile treasure.
Roy found this cautious demeanor a bit amusing, while the soft touch on his abdomen made him a little shy: “See? I told you there’s nothing wrong.”
“But it still hurt, right?”
“No, not at all…”
“But it hurt a lot at the time, right?”
Roy paused for a moment, “It’s nothing. I was just using his hand to reach a breakthrough.”
Leanna sighed slightly, shaking her head with a bitter smile.
“I’m really useless. As a senior, I should have higher bloodline status, but I couldn’t protect you, making you win through this means.”
The girl lowered her head, falling into the shadows cast by the candlelight, the air sinking into a temporary silence.
Leanna rarely faced adversity, always enigmatic, confident, and seemingly in control; this was the first time Roy saw her looking so dejected.
In fact, Leanna had done quite well. If it had just been Roy alone, he would have probably lost in just a few moves. During the earlier battle, Hydra had saved his life more than once.
But of course, Leanna understood all these things.
Thinking of this, Roy coughed a couple of times, deliberately raising his voice: “If you’re really feeling guilty, why not help me with something?”
“Huh?”
Roy put on a villainous grin, brazenly eyeing Leanna, starting to morally blackmail her: “Tsk tsk, senior, this is a rare opportunity to mess with you; I better think about what to play with.”
With Leanna’s personality, she’d probably bounce back with her usual teasing retort.
But even that would be better than falling into self-reproach and looking gloomy.
To his surprise, Leanna raised her head, looking serious: “Alright.”
“……Huh?”
“As long as it’s something I can do for my junior, just say it. I promise I’ll do anything.” Leanna leaned in, speaking word by word.
There was no smile on her face, no teasing, just a definitive and reassuring statement with a gaze that was frighteningly clear.
Roy had planned various outrageous requests and was prepared to be counterattacked by Leanna, but now he had no idea how to proceed.
He was just trying to lighten the mood.
But Leanna seemed serious! There was even a hint of… anticipation?
Did she ever think about what would happen if he asked for some absurdly inappropriate request?
After a moment of silence, Roy finally retracted his gaze, helplessly rubbing his hair.
“Feed me.”
“Huh? Just that?”
“Just that! Feed me! I’m hungry!”
Leanna blinked, then covered her mouth, unable to hold back her laughter.
“Sure thing, as long as it’s my junior’s request, I’ll agree to anything.”
In the basket was soup with dark bread; being military rations, it wasn’t exactly gourmet.
Leanna took the dark bread and soup from the basket, broke the former into bits, soaked it in the bowl, then scooped a spoonful, carefully blowing on it before gently handing it to Roy.
Roy regretted his request a bit.
The distance between them was already small, and under the dim orange light, getting closer felt like…
Under the flickering candlelight, the girl’s lips were as enticing as dew-covered roses, leaving Roy barely able to focus on anything else.
It wasn’t until Leanna’s cheerful voice pulled Roy back to reality: “What’s wrong? Didn’t you ask me to feed you?”
The senior finally smiled as usual, teasing slyly: “Or do you want to taste something else…?”
“Think too much!”
Roy opened his mouth and took a spoonful of soup.
“Is it good?”
“Pretty good.” Caught off guard, Roy actually didn’t get a proper taste.
“Looks like my junior doesn’t dislike my flavor.”
“No, you just fed me; it’s not like you cooked it…”
As they chatted, the soup soon disappeared. The military food was certainly not as good as what his own maid cooked, but somehow, thanks to Leanna, Roy surprisingly didn’t find it hard to swallow.
However, Leanna really got into it, and after feeding him, she took out a handkerchief and insisted on wiping his mouth, making Roy fidget.
“You really don’t need to!”
“You asked for it, so don’t be selfish.”
“I didn’t say I wanted you to wipe it…!”
Her soft fingertips touched his mouth through the handkerchief, like fresh, delicate flower petals.
And then there was a warm whisper that followed.
“Thank you.”
Roy averted his gaze, remaining noncommittal.
Sure enough, with Leanna’s sensitivity, she had long figured out he was comforting her.
But it seemed effective. Seeing her face devoid of gloom, Roy felt satisfied.
“By the way, who knows what will happen tomorrow? You should head back and get some rest.” Roy reminded her.
Unexpectedly, Leanna looked at him straight, silently.
Realizing her intent, Roy felt a bit of a headache: “Hey, you don’t want to stay, do you?”
“I have no choice; if I go out now, it won’t look good if someone sees me.” Leanna shrugs and grins sideways: “Junior, you wouldn’t want the Sword Demon to be mistaken for a creepy uncle messing around with a girl, right?”
“Why don’t you just use your abilities to sneak out?” Roy returned the jab without mercy, then exposed her true motive: “Or are you just not planning to go back at all?”
“And what if I said yes?”
“……Why?”
“Such a rare chance to share a bed with my junior.” Leanna suddenly looked away, her tone softening: “And besides, I can’t sleep alone.”
In the darkness, Roy suddenly felt Leanna’s silhouette appeared so small and fragile, like a candle in the long night, ready to extinguish at any moment.
Tomorrow would be a major turning point in Leanna’s life.
The ability to save her mother, reclaim her family, defeat enemies—thinking about all this, even Leanna might feel restless.
Aside from herself, perhaps there was no one else in this world she could rely on.
“Never mind, do as you wish. But no funny business.” Roy admonished, still uneasy.
“Of course.” Leanna smiled brightly.
“Ah, should I turn off the lights?”
“Go ahead.”
Roy turned in bed, leaving Leanna with just his back.
