Chapter 139: Vigilance!
What shook Alice was not Leanna’s closeness with Roy.
It was Roy’s complete lack of discomfort regarding that closeness, as if he had long since grown accustomed to it.
After all, he finally got to see his master. Why should there be any extra folks getting in the way?
The spot closest to his master.
That should have been her place.
Thinking about this made Alice’s breathing feel a little heavy.
Roy looked at her suspiciously, “What’s wrong? Aren’t you sitting?”
“Nothing.”
Alice snapped back to reality, lightly taking a seat, straightening her posture, and coldly staring at the grinning witch.
“President…”
“Uh-huh, that’s a bit too formal.” Leanna interrupted her advance, waving her hand, “Given my relationship with the junior, just call me ‘senpai’.”
Alice’s eyelashes twitched slightly.
But she quickly adjusted her emotions and, with a hint of hidden sharpness, launched another attack: “Leanna-senpai, with all due respect, as the exclusive maid of my master, I am the one who knows him best. I can’t rest easy handing my master over to anyone but me.”
Bad woman, stay away from my master!
However, Leanna innocently blinked and pointed out a harsh fact: “But I’ve been the one taking care of the junior lately.”
“Huh?”
“Just now, I was feeding Roy. You see, he’s not just fine; he’s enjoying it.” Leanna turned to look at Roy, hinting at him lightly while blowing softly: “Right?”
Roy turned his head away, slightly blushing, and feigned calmness, “I wouldn’t say enjoying.”
“But it’s really not that serious of an injury. With senpai taking care of him, Alice, you really don’t need to worry.”
!
Alice felt as if she was stabbed by an invisible blade, chilled to the bone.
“Don’t worry” = “No need for Alice.”
Alice had no way to counter this and felt a bit flustered: “R-really not needed?”
“Master doesn’t mind if he can’t have Alice’s cooking?”
“Uh…”
“Doesn’t mind if he doesn’t need Alice to do his laundry?”
“Huh?”
“Doesn’t mind if he doesn’t need Alice to massage him?”
“W-wait, what are you talking about…?”
“Doesn’t mind if he doesn’t need Alice to serve him?”
Leanna raised an eyebrow, wearing the expression of “You really know how to play,” making Roy feel a little awkward.
“At the end of the day…” Alice’s delicate voice had a rare touch of coldness.
She glared fiercely at Leanna, like a watchdog wary of a sly wolf.
“Can this woman really be trusted?”
However, under Alice’s sharp gaze, Leanna remained unfazed, casually scooting closer to Roy and softly asking, “Junior, am I trustworthy?”
Noticing the subtle tension building between the two girls, Roy couldn’t help but sigh.
“Alice, listen to me; Leanna is not a bad person.”
Alice’s vigor decreased slightly, but she still kept her eyes fixed on Leanna: “Not a bad person…”
“Yup, she saved me, helped me, took care of me. She’s a trustworthy senpai, so you really don’t need to worry.”
Roy strained to sit up, pinching Alice’s cheek to relieve her tense expression, making it droop a bit.
“Even if you don’t trust her, do you still not trust me?”
“No, of course I trust my master!”
“Then just wait for me to come back properly.”
Alice fell silent.
As a maid, she shouldn’t oppose her master’s decisions.
In fact, even though Roy looked weak, he didn’t look bad. Even if Leanna’s care wasn’t as thorough as her own, he wouldn’t be mistreated.
Besides, Roy really looked happy…
If he wanted to go with Leanna for a healing trip…
Looking at the boy’s smiling face, Alice ultimately retracted her hostility, lowered her gaze, and slowly nodded.
——————————
Alice was quite glad that she wasn’t alone tonight.
Tonight, Charlotte and Nia had just finished their work and came to join her for dinner, preventing her from being left alone and doing nothing.
“So, Roy is going to the South Sea Country for recovery?”
Upon hearing this, Charlotte immediately got anxious, grabbing her crimson hair tips, frowning slightly in visible dissatisfaction.
“This guy, if he just said something, I would have gone with him!”
Beside her, Nia rested her chin on her hand, leaning forward, suddenly showing a teasing look.
“Did you miss him so much in just a few days?”
“W-who, who said they missed him?!” Charlotte turned her head vigorously and huffed heavily, “It’s only natural for me, as his queen, to worry a bit in times like this!”
Isn’t worrying the same as missing? Alice felt a bit confused.
“And speaking of you, how can you say that? You’re the same!” Charlotte pointed her fork fiercely at Nia.
Unfortunately, in social situations, or in front of anyone other than Roy, Charlotte didn’t quite maintain her noble elegance.
The elven girl defiantly argued, “Of course, I’m not like you.”
The next second, the elven girl leaned down and dramatically banged the table, twitching in a fit: “I miss him! I can’t take it anymore!”
“Ahhhhh, why hasn’t he come back yet? Speaking of all the fun things at the seaside, why didn’t he invite me? How infuriating!!!”
Such a display of madness made even Charlotte feel inferior.
Clearly, this one had been a bit overwhelmed by exams lately, and her thoughts about Roy had made her a little unhinged.
Fortunately, after a while, Nia sat up again, coughed a couple of times, ruffled her hair, and got back to normal.
“However, I’m not like you; I’m very magnanimous. What Roy wants to do is his freedom; a really thoughtful girlfriend wouldn’t meddle.”
“Hmph, as if I’m some unreasonable woman! I’m just complaining; it’s not like someone is acting like they’re going to die without Roy in sight.”
Despite their bickering, both girls couldn’t avoid feeling a twinge of disappointment.
After all, one had to manage faction affairs, and the other needed remedial classes due to poor grades. Plus, with dorm supervisors checking up, they couldn’t visit Roy’s dorm; they only had weekends to spend time with him. After finally finding some free time these past two days, Roy was nowhere to be found.
Nia glanced at the little maid nearby: “But why don’t you go with him?”
Charlotte was silent but had a puzzled expression too.
Alice looked like a little puppy waiting for her master to come home, her light golden twin tails drooping down like soft dog ears, her face gloomy.
This listless look had persisted for several days.
Logically, as a devoted maid so concerned for her master, she wouldn’t miss out on a trip for recovery like this.
Alice lifted her head and weakly replied, “Master has someone taking care of him already.”
“Oh? That student council president even arranged for a caretaker? How considerate!” Nia unexpectedly complimented.
But then, the next sentence struck like thunder.
“No, the student council president is personally accompanying Master.”
As soon as these words were spoken, both Nia and Charlotte’s expressions changed.
