Chapter 1: Against the Heavens
A new semester, a new atmosphere.
At the opening ceremony, energetic freshmen stepped into the auditorium, full of dreams for the future, while the second and third-year students reunited with friends, chatting about their vacations.
Curiously surveying the surroundings, freshmen were more focused on their classmates and seniors.
And the most eye-catching were simply handsome guys and beautiful girls.
For newcomers, it was hard to tell who was who; only their appearances were straightforward.
Fiery red locks, emerald green, alluring figures, snowy silver hair.
A quick glance caught one extraordinary figure after another, causing countless freshmen to cheer silently inside, eagerly anticipating a wonderful school life, some already itching to make a move.
There was a kind of unworldly beauty.
The older students, however, were much more mature.
Or perhaps it should be said they had seen 13 different things.
They had already recognized the gap between themselves and others, becoming quite Zen about it; just being eye candy was good enough!
They didn’t let hormones cloud their brains, admiring either the handsome boys or beautiful girls while still exchanging information.
This wave was called multitasking.
In just three short months of winter break, Veszyra hadn’t lacked for big news.
“Have you heard? The trouble in the Kingdom of Goldsand has finally settled down!”
“You can’t say it’s not thanks to Senior Douglas, right? Before him, who could clean up that mess?”
“The Southern Sea Kingdom is also causing quite a stir!”
“Yeah, remember last year at the finals, Senior Jason was heavily criticized for attending an underground auction and losing a national treasure or something?”
“But in the end, he cleared his name!”
“Exactly! He funded enforcement along the coast, took down a bunch of cultists—who cares about a national treasure? That’s benefiting the people’s livelihood!”
Due to historical reasons, the Kingdom of Goldsand was the only country that allowed polygamy.
In the extraordinary world, too many mundane wives would dilute the bloodline, while having too many royal members inheriting extraordinary power could sow the seeds of chaos.
This led to the Kingdom of Goldsand being embroiled in power struggles for years, resulting in significant political instability, making it the only little brother who dropped the ball in peaceful times.
Little did anyone know, this generation had the mighty Douglas drop down, who despite not starting out high had developed his power in just a few years, beating his siblings into submission and solidifying his rule.
He was now named the king’s heir.
Let’s face it, this might be the only heir in a century who didn’t need a coup to take the throne! The gold content isn’t something heirs from other countries can compare to!
As for Jason, his life had been way smoother compared to Douglas’s path to royalty.
Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, owning the massive Blue Moon Chamber of Commerce, he had already won at the starting line, yet he also had an ambitious heart.
He wanted to do something great.
Living a life where everything was handed to him felt too dull!
Where’s the fun in fighting pirates, slaying sea monsters, and engaging in power struggles and business wars every day?
In fact, Jason did have enough to play his already existing advantages to the fullest. In business, he successfully took the Blue Moon Chamber to new heights, while politically, he fiercely cracked down on cultists, winning unanimous support from nobles and the public, wielding power far exceeding that of a prince.
The only time he stumbled was last year when he failed to bring back the national treasure, leaving the domestic opposition to seize the opportunity for some serious criticism.
But thanks to his substantial achievements against cultists, this uproar was quickly settled.
After all, compared to a national treasure not seen for years, everyone cared more about their immediate safety.
Cultists seemed to be a great amusement for the people of the world.
Among the two third-year princes, not only the freshers showed awe, but even the older students had heard of them, unknowingly generating a sense of admiration. They were indeed comparable to Leanna, who suppressed the chaos of the Cassandra Family’s demon race, shining brightly as the academy’s stars—
If it weren’t for Roy Ainbrad.
After the customary elder “Sage” finished his opening speech, the black-haired boy took the stage, causing a peak of excitement no less than that of his predecessor.
The difference was, the older students weren’t surprised, more like cheering, while the newcomers were in disbelief.
“Roy Ainbrad? Who the heck is he?!”
“Isn’t he that brat who harassed young girls?!”
“No, no, no, the version has changed. I heard now he’s a pledge knight for the Lionheart Kingdom, but still just a knight after all, not even a royal, right?”
“Though he looks decent, he’s still not as good as our Jason!”
“Why can’t they invite that legendary Lionheart Princess to the stage? We want to see beautiful girls!”
A group of freshmen whispered, exuding naive foolishness, leaving the older students with black lines on their foreheads.
Damn, can’t take it anymore; these little brats need a reality check.
At that moment, fans of Roy and those opposed reached an unusual consensus.
Fans didn’t need mentioning, even the opposers had to admit to Roy’s achievements last year.
After all, if Roy was indeed such a loser and a scoundrel, wouldn’t that mean they were even lower than that?
Mark was the first to stand up, arms crossed, striking a typical bully pose and glaring fiercely, “You wanna know who he is? Kid, listen up!”
“A pledge knight of the Lionheart Kingdom, winner of the Trials of Blue, former student council member, a direct disciple of ‘Ice Rose,’ suspected ally of the Holy Light Church, a genius who crushed cultists and the demon race!”
A long list of titles left the few freshmen dumbstruck.
The black-haired cat girl, who was sneaking a bite of breakfast bread, couldn’t stand her master being looked down upon, and angrily blurted out, “In our Lionheart Kingdom, pledge knights and royals are of equal status, meow!”
Kreya, leading the student council members, also had a sweat-soaked smile, “Give it a rest; are you still living in the First Era? A scoundrel? Our student council wouldn’t take a scoundrel, come on!”
“Your prince Jason lost to Roy last year and admitted defeat!”
“Can you act like Douglas from your Kingdom never lost?!”
“What? Our prince and Roy have fought cultists together; does your Jason even have that kind of camaraderie?”
“Are you crazy?!”
The Southern Sea Kingdom and the Kingdom of Goldsand had been in a back-and-forth state of mutual admiration and discontent due to commercial conflicts, which wasn’t odd at all.
It was just that the seniors from both kingdoms being so respectful towards one person still made each respective new student question their life.
Finally, the black-haired cat girl managed to swallow the bread and proudly stated, “By the way, Young Master Roy and Princess Charlotte have kissed, meow!”
A thunderclap.
No matter how many times they heard about power or character, those were irrelevant to them.
However, the disastrous news of a blooming flower having an owner was a direct blow to the hormone-fueled youth.
They hadn’t even started swooning before it was over.
After the seniors’ explanation, when the freshmen looked at Roy again, their gazes had completely transformed, filled with doubt, shock, and disbelief.
As if they were staring at an alien.
Meanwhile, the boy on stage also noticed the anxious eyes of the freshmen looking at him, and couldn’t help but twitch his eye.
Was it his imagination?
Why was everyone looking at him with such awe?!
