Chapter 4: The Kids Have Grown Up
Xue Nuo’s integration went surprisingly smoothly.
Why? Because she can cook.
Unlike Charlotte and the others, Xue Nuo had lived alone as a teacher for many years and had to take care of a certain silver wolf, so she often cooked. Not saying her skills were top-notch, but at least she could whip up authentic Imperial cuisine.
No one would mess with the person who serves your meals.
At least not during mealtime.
“How does it taste?”
“Perfect! Better than the dishes at the Quiet Wind City restaurant!”
After a sip of the tomato oxtail soup, Roy lit up with pure happiness.
Let’s be real; homemade meals from a wife completely trounce restaurant food, right?!
After getting praise from Roy, Xue Nuo finally relaxed a bit, her long snowy brows softening into a warm expression.
“Slow down, there’s still plenty in the pot.”
“Mm-mm!”
“Tsk,” Leanna was not having it.
The sisterly role she’d always played was now taken over by Xue Nuo; wasn’t that undermining her competitive edge?
“Wonder who used to throw a fit over impure relationships with younger students, huh?”
Leanna’s words made Xue Nuo freeze, and even Roy stopped chewing.
But soon, Nia and Charlotte both looked up at the same time.
“Cease fire during meals!”
“Let the past be the past!”
Xue Nuo’s food was so beloved that the two girls could momentarily put aside their grudges to team up against Leanna.
Three against one, even Leanna, with her silver tongue, didn’t dare to say too much, gritting her teeth in frustration.
These gluttons! One bowl of soup and they’ve lost their fighting spirit! Is this all the love you have for Roy?!
Just when Leanna was about to crush the spoon in annoyance, Roy kindly suggested, “Senior, why don’t you try some?”
“Xue Nuo’s skills really aren’t bad.”
“No, just a mere soup…?!”
Leanna’s words came to a halt, and her throat quivered slightly.
Not because the soup smelled great.
But because Roy had brought the spoon to her lips.
Not hesitating for a second would be an insult to Roy, so Leanna swiftly tossed her hair back, closed her eyes, leaned in, and took the spoon in one go.
That wasn’t even the end; she even deliberately wrapped her slick tongue around the spoon, licking it clean before finally releasing it.
Then, she provocatively smirked at the other three, licking her lips.
“Indeed, Xue Nuo’s cooking is really impressive~”
Charlotte and Nia’s faces darkened immediately.
Xue Nuo’s demeanor chilled significantly, and the warmth left her soup, replaced by ice cubes.
She only intended to console her senior, but who knew such a disastrous scene would arise! Roy really wished he could find a block of tofu and bump his head into it.
“Leanna, you’re just looking for trouble, aren’t you?”
“I see you don’t want to have a good meal!”
“Roy, I’ll switch you a spoon.”
Charlotte nodded earnestly: “Right, how can Roy use something touched by this woman…”
Halfway through her sentence, Charlotte sensed something was off, suddenly leaping up, “Stop right there! Don’t push your own spoon onto him!”
Retracted words! Looks like Xue Nuo’s integration isn’t going so smoothly after all.
By now, Roy had mastered the art of keeping a straight face under pressure, while the girls bickered around him, he was blissfully focused on his meal.
Once the arguing had died down, Roy finished most of his dinner.
Wiping his mouth, he changed the subject: “Speaking of which, I’m thinking about where our second-year field trip should go?”
Field trip.
A big deal for second-year first semester.
The academy’s original intention was to broaden students’ horizons and familiarize them with the customs and cultures beyond their hometown.
But in Roy’s view, it was just a publicly funded trip, plus a chance to collect limited CGs.
This was a rare opportunity where the original story lacked the meddling of ‘The Terrible Young Master Roy’, completely leaving the lovey-dovey moments to Alice and the heroine without him worrying!
Although now he was just taking Alice’s place in that lovey-dovey stuff.
For this field trip, there were seven regions to choose from, precisely the capitals of the seven major powers in the Western Continent.
In the original story, picking a region would unlock corresponding character CGs, but given his relationship with Charlotte and the others, this decision became complicated.
“For the field trip, how about we visit our hometown? Uncle Carl misses you too…”
Before Charlotte could finish her usual proud speech, Nia retorted, “Your calculations are all over my face!”
“Traveling should be to places you’ve never been! Didn’t you say you wanted to see the Fairy Forest? Just right…”
Nia barely finished her sentence when Leanna interrupted, “Only kids would be interested in a field trip, right?”
The brown-haired girl was deliberately biting her finger, throwing out flirty looks, “As a mature man, wouldn’t it be better to stay and let your senior accompany you for some adult fun?”
However, Xue Nuo wasn’t playing those games; she looked directly into Roy’s eyes and stated plainly, “No matter where you go, I’ll be with you.”
Seeing the four of them glaring at each other, about to engage in another fight, Roy proactively spoke up, “Sorry, I already have something in mind.”
Choosing one would be partial; the best option is to choose none!
They had all shared their choices, so now he just needed to perfectly avoid any of their answers.
If we’re talking about travel, both the South Sea Kingdom and the Golden Sands Kingdom are great options.
But considering how last time they nearly flipped an island in the South Sea Kingdom, Roy suspected he was already blacklisted by the local tourism department.
“I want to go to the Golden Sands Kingdom.”
Though somewhat dissatisfied, since he didn’t lean toward anyone, they couldn’t really say anything.
However, aside from Charlotte and the others, Roy hadn’t forgotten about another little one who needed care.
From the start of the meal until now, the blonde maid had been silent, quietly eating.
“Alice, for this field trip…”
“Master, actually for this field trip, Alice already has plans.”
“Huh?”
Roy froze, his mind went blank, and even his spoon dropped to the floor.
He initially wanted to say that if Alice wanted to travel to other places, she didn’t need to worry about him.
But the little maid actually didn’t plan on considering him! How could this be?!
“You have plans? Who are you…”
“Vanilla and Choco, we’ve agreed to go to the South Sea Kingdom.”
“Oh, I see.”
Ah, the kid has finally grown up, huh?
Going out with friends is such a legitimate reason that can’t really be opposed!
Wait, why would he oppose it? She was just going out to have fun with her same-age friends…
Roy scratched his head, suppressing the stirrings in his heart, and broke into a bright smile, “Then you should go.”
“Mm.”
The blonde maid nodded slightly, lowering her eyes, clearly getting what she wanted, yet not particularly happy. She drank her meat soup absentmindedly.
No one noticed that beneath the lace-trimmed skirt, her little white socks hung listlessly, like a wilting flower.
