Chapter 301: Act 68 – The King of the Underground (Part 19) (Second Update, Seeking Support)
It should be said, it is a dragonkin.
The dragon beast stood on two legs, towering like a fortress. Its scales were a sky blue and translucent green, reflecting a cold light like steel at the edges. Each carapace scale was several inches thick, shining brightly from a distance as if it wore a layer of metal plating.
However, the true characteristic of this creature was its ugly, angular triangular head, with deep-set eye sockets housing a single pale blue eye that remained motionless—only the pupil flickered with a golden flame representing the bloodline of dragons.
The Wind Dragon Adra, before this creature in its mature form, made the hellhound appear as docile as a puppy. It dominated the food chain in the lower realms of the Mountain of Storms, and the natives of that land referred to it as the Master of the Winds.
Legend has it that the Wind Dragon Adra is a descendant of the Sky Dragon, the Calamity Dragon Azure. However, in the era when Brendel lived, the Royal Biological Society of the Cruz Empire had refuted this claim, leaning more towards the theories of the mountain dwarves:
The Wind Dragon Adra originated from the lineage of the blue dragon, but unlike those cloud-dwelling elves, they were much more brutal predators, and their blood did not flow with cold elemental lineage, but with warm wild blood.
Yet regardless of which bloodline it possessed, it did not detract from its title as the ruler of the atmosphere. Even though the beast before Brendel was merely an immature youngling, it still possessed the strength of a golden elite.
“Damn it!” Brendel cursed in his heart. The true strength of the Wind Dragon Adra lay in its immunity to all air-based spells. The Destiny Arena must have scanned the Wind Elemental Spider before releasing such a creature—because the Wind Elemental Spider came from the lower realms of the Mountain of Storms, and Adra could be considered one of its greatest enemies.
This was outright cheating. In the past, Brendel would have immediately disconnected and gone to the forums to lambaste the designer.
But now he could only accept everything with frustration—
Fortunately, it seemed this cursed place could only scan the card creatures themselves, and could not scan other cards attached to them. Because the attack attributes of the Holy Sword card came from the earth element, which just happened to counter air-based creatures most effectively.
Thinking of this, a sense of vengeful pleasure filled his heart.
But unlike Brendel’s rich and colorful thoughts at this moment, when others saw this towering creature that resembled a small hill, their thoughts were few—they all gasped in cold air, cultivating a fear as if their heartstrings were tightened.
Even those unknowledgeable youths who had never left Schafflund recognized that this creature belonged to that category.
Dragons.
Though they might not clearly distinguish between the true dragon, dragonkin, sub-dragon, and flying lizard in the Amber Sword, they undoubtedly shared one thing in common—they all played roles akin to the final BOSS in legends or bedtime stories.
Everyone grew up hearing tales of dragons, be it those mythical dragons like Dusk and Darkness, or Sky Giants—the Azure, Fiery, and Crystal—or the fire-breathing dragons on the ground. Numerous stories described the powers these creatures represented, and as the last golden lineage on the earth, they flowed with a blood that fused mystery and nobility.
Not to mention Joeka, Mahler, and Kewen held their breath; even Juliette, Xi, and Kuran couldn’t help but be stunned. They recognized Erluin as a military flying beast’s wyvern but certainly not this thing.
This massive beast, glowing with a bluish-green light, spread its wings like blades and sliced through the metal cage into pieces.
So this is a dragon.
They thought in unison.
Among them, the only one who responded was Mahler, perhaps this boy was simply born with a thicker skin. He suddenly pushed Kewen hard and whispered, “He—he’s challenging again; is he going to save us?”
Kewen remained silent, watching the dragon with a racing heart; although he knew the creature’s target was not them. But ordinary people inevitably felt small before such a beast, as if the mere flutter of a wing could easily spell their doom.
Of course, his thinking was not without reason, only the Wind Dragon Adra could never destroy the surrounding protective barrier in this arena, no matter how powerful it was—
“Kewen?”
“Shut up!” The delicate boy emphasized for the first time. His brows furrowed as he shook his head vigorously. Although the Wind Dragon Adra captured his attention, his heart lingered on the previous moment, a detail that slightly stirred him.
His hand slipped into his pocket, pressing against something.
…
“Wind Dragon Adra.” Medisa grew tense, biting her lip, her silver eyes fixed ahead. The silver long spear in her hand tightened unconsciously—
After all, the strength of a golden elite was a significant threat to them.
“My Lord, although this beast appears large and clumsy, they are actually very fast and agile,” the Silver Elf Princess gently reminded him.
Before her words fell, the giant dragon standing in the arena suddenly spread its wings and shot into the sky—it was astonishingly fast, leaving only a faint azure trail in Brendel’s eyes.
By the time the young man reacted, the dragon had already turned sharply and dove into the swarm of Wind Elemental Spiders— these small creatures were very familiar with the Wind Dragon Adra, but the glimmering Holy Sword on them made it feel like Damocles’ sword hanging overhead, an uncomfortable pressure on its back.
Its instincts were not wrong, but Brendel’s summoned creatures were doomed to suffer; in the blink of an eye, the young man observed a significant gap missing from his array of Holy Swords.
“Scatter! Free fire!”
Brendel anxiously commanded, two points of earth element flowed from his pool, and a massive golden net wove together in the sky.
But what happened next was something Brendel would remember for a lifetime; he looked up to see in this densely interwoven web of firepower, the Wind Dragon Adra was clearly effortless. It darted through the light net like a swimming fish—over seventy percent of the light columns missed it, only a few struck its scales, but they inflicted no pain, no ailment— as if the air was not an obstacle for this creature but another pair of wings.
Not just the young lord, everyone present gaped. Though this transpired in an instant, it felt like an eternity to every person viewing.
They watched the Wind Dragon Adra maneuver slowly in mid-air, twisting and turning, tilting its wings to let the light beams graze the edges of its wings, dodging deftly, as if its movements were nearly slow enough for the naked eye to track—
Yet the Holy Sword cards could not hit.
This illusion flashed and disappeared; from extremely slow to extremely fast only took a blink, and they saw the Wind Dragon Adra already passing through the light mesh and confronting another swarm of Wind Elemental Spiders.
This was the strength of a golden elite wind elemental creature—
“Truly a creature from the wind elemental domain!” A sense of awe filled Brendel’s heart. He had heard from players who had visited the wind elemental world about such creatures, yet this was his first time witnessing one of these giants. The Wind Dragon Adra’s speed left a profound first impression on him, “They are indeed the descendants of cloud-dwelling elves; their reputation is well-deserved.”
Legends say that rolling clouds and flashing lightning on the earth are the blue dragons flying among the clouds, their speed akin to light and electricity, and evidently, their descendants were just as formidable.
Brendel had little time for reflection; if this were a golden elite on the ground, he, Medisa, and the Wind Elemental Spiders would still have a fighting chance, but this time, the Destiny Arena had evidently posed a challenge.
Fortunately, this challenge was not insurmountable for him. He stepped back and shouted, “Medisa, summon a unicorn!”
“Yes, my Lord!”
The Silver Elf Princess leaped with her spear, and the ghostly unicorn immediately leaped out from a sudden portal of light, allowing the girl to land perfectly in the saddle behind it.
Once combined, Medisa quickly rode the unicorn into the air, charging toward the Wind Dragon. Though Adra’s speed rivaled lightning, the unicorn was no slouch either.
Unicorns were inherently powerful creatures for single combat, and only silver elves could accompany them, making them willingly become steeds. It should be noted that the unicorn, as a level 11 creature of the silver elf clan, possessed combat strength close to a golden peak, with the older ones being even more empowered in elemental existence.
In fact, had it not been for the card of the unicorn knight where only Medisa truly unleashed its combat power, her unicorn would far exceed her own abilities. Of course, Brendel knew that within the constraints of the card rules, the royal unicorn she rode only retained its speed.
But that was enough; the Wind Dragon Adra immediately sensed the threat approaching from behind with speed. Although Medisa had only initial golden strength, exposing its back recklessly to the opponent would likely result in a situation like Kuran’s, where it couldn’t salvage the situation.
It had no choice but to forgo the swarm of Wind Elemental Spiders ahead and turn to confront the Silver Elf Princess.
The two sides crossed paths in the sky; the Wind Dragon Adra, turning to face the battle, clearly suffered from being caught off guard, but even so, it was Medisa who was injured in the end.
In a mere moment of crossing, the giant beast swiped away Medisa’s spear and then knocked her aside with a claw, rising high to gain the upper hand— the entire process was seamless and without a scratch.
Although the Silver Elf Princess narrowly avoided a fatal blow at the last moment with the unicorn’s speed, the surrounding currents created by the Wind Dragon Adra still caused multiple cuts and injuries on her skin and armor.
This current was a characteristic of high-level wind elemental creatures; Bud’s artisan wizards even mimicked it to create a spell—Atmospheric Shield—but compared to the original version, the spell only retained its defensive aspect.
As for the offensive aspect—
The girl on the unicorn touched her cheek, her palm coated with pale silver blood. She raised her head, a glimmer of vigilance flashing in her eyes.
