Chapter 9: Alice Must Protect Her Master!
The blonde little maid’s eyes flickered, her face finally showing a hint of wavering.
Complete possession, leaving no room for herself.
But for her master, that’s a good thing, right?
Compared to the insignificant gray maid, the princess and the elven girl are the rightful companions to stand by his side.
“It’s okay.”
“As long as my master is happy, it doesn’t matter if it’s like that.”
The blonde girl, on the verge of tears, maintained a facade of indifference, her tone as calm as still water, showing no fluctuations at all, while her tiny fists clenched tightly around the hem of her clothing.
Such a contradictory scene made it obvious even to Roy that she was suffering inside.
Even Charlotte felt sympathy and couldn’t play the villain any longer, letting out a faint sigh.
Just too tough to handle.
Both of them overlooked one thing.
One had a spirit of adventure, was extroverted and enjoyed connecting with others, while the other was raised in martial ways, knowing how to fight for what she wanted.
Even with the purity of elven descent, even burdened by noble restraint, when something truly desired appeared, neither would take the initiative.
But Alice was different.
Having been trapped in the slums and with human traffickers, Alice subconsciously thought it was always about exhausting herself to meet others’ demands, rather than fighting for something for herself.
The blonde maid wasn’t just simply insecure; she had no concept of self-empowerment whatsoever.
Even though Roy removed her physical shackles, her mind remained tightly bound, unable to take that step forward.
This was something two girls raised in wealth and relative freedom couldn’t comprehend.
“So, you two really don’t have to mind Alice,” Alice still forced herself, pretending nothing was wrong.
But even if they couldn’t understand Alice’s struggles, as girls who also had feelings for Roy, they were able to grasp one thing.
Her feelings for Roy were definitely not one-dimensional.
So they exchanged a determined glance.
So you won’t budge, huh?
Then don’t blame us for getting serious!
Nia cleared her throat a couple of times, feigning seriousness: “Little Alice, actually, on this trip, we want to ask you to protect Roy.”
“Protect?”
Alice froze, her gaze sharpening.
If Roy was in danger, it would be entirely different.
But the study trip was escorted by a whole classroom, and it wasn’t going to some remote wilderness; what danger could there be?
Just as Alice was puzzled, Charlotte opened a book.
It wasn’t the romantic tales of knights she adored, nor the adventure stories that Nia liked.
It was Leanna Cassandra’s private collection, a forbidden evil illustrated book as ordered by the nobility.
Five words to describe it.
Very inappropriate, very violent.
On the pages, a black-haired boy was being groped by a group of revealing dancers from the exotic east, subjected to various humiliations, deemed the ultimate insult!
A tremendous shock struck the little maid, feeling as though her soul was being attacked. She stood frozen, her small face flushing red and pale alternately, very much unsettled.
Nia’s face also flushed, but she forced herself to speak: “Do you know about the dancers from the Kingdom of Golden Sands?”
“Unlike the dancers from the South Sea Kingdom, this is their style.”
“Each one has their own unique quality, every one has a special skill! Just like the demon race’s succubi, who love to drain beautiful boys dry!”
“We can’t always be there to protect Roy, and we’re afraid he might accidentally fall for their tricks and suffer humiliation! So, the duty of protecting him must fall to you!”
Staring at the indecent images, the little maid’s brain went fuzzy, and she struggled to speak: “B-but…”
“As a maid, shouldn’t you protect your master? Do you want Roy to end up like this?!”
With her face equally flushed, Charlotte shouted, grabbing that evil illustrated book and shoving it right in Alice’s face.
The 21+ lewd images crashed into the girl’s vision.
In that moment, Alice felt as if she had been struck by lightning, cold sweat pouring down.
This is just too weird! Too weird!!!
Even the headliners from the red-light district auction wouldn’t have taught this strange stuff!
N-no, I mustn’t let my master suffer such abuse!
Alice became like a wound-up toy, unable to sit still, and leaped up, not even bothering to put on her slippers, pattering barefoot into Roy’s room.
Whatever about keeping distance or maid principles, none of that mattered anymore.
Alice dove onto the bed, startling Roy awake just as he was about to sleep.
Seeing the little maid with tears in her eyes, Roy found it both funny and strange: “Alice? Did you have a nightmare?”
“Master, you must take me along for the study trip!”
“Uh? Didn’t you say…”
“That doesn’t matter! You must take me with you! Alice absolutely must protect her master!”
Though unsure what had triggered the little one, since she had changed her mind, Roy gladly agreed.
This is respecting a child’s wishes!
Only, the mental trauma Alice had accumulated was too heavy, clinging to him like a koala that refused to let go, leaving the amused yet helpless Roy with no choice but to sleep beside her for the night.
By the way, according to Leanna herself, that grotesque illustrated book wasn’t her personal taste; it was simply an art collection.
Even so, for a long time afterward, the way Charlotte and Nia looked at her was filled with a deep sense of dread.
————————
Kingdom of Golden Sands, capital, Golden Wind City.
After half a month of trekking, the magic academy’s travel group finally arrived at their destination.
Legend has it that the founder of the Kingdom of Golden Sands discovered a mine buried with golden chasms, with so much gold that even the gentlest breeze could sweep up vast amounts of golden sand.
Every legend carries some exaggeration.
Incredibly, the legend of the Kingdom of Golden Sands was true.
Compared to the guides hired by the academy, the immortal phoenix in Roy’s head, as an eyewitness, narrated the founding history of the Kingdom of Golden Sands in the Third Era, leaving Roy dumbfounded.
The tales of lands paved with gold weren’t false; gold, as a superlative material, could be used directly in warfare.
As the westernmost nation of humanity, the Kingdom of Golden Sands was on the front lines in the war against the demons, second only to the Winter Empire.
The war against the demons in the Third Era nearly led to the annihilation of the Kingdom of Golden Sands, and the intense battles significantly depleted the gold mines.
Now, the miraculous sight of golden dust dancing in the sand was hard to find.
That said, looking at the extravagant buildings adorned with gaudy gold and the citizens bedecked in golden accessories, Roy’s eyes were completely dazzled by this nation’s wealth.
The study trip was an event for second and third years, so Leanna had come along too, while Xue Nuo was accompanying them as a teacher.
However, Roy never expected that besides his own girls, he would run into another acquaintance on this trip.
At the entrance of the luxurious hotel, Douglas smiled slightly, opening his arms: “Dear teachers and classmates, welcome to my homeland!”
