Chapter 48: Alice Will Try Hard
Until deep into the night, Alice was still fuming over Simon’s rudeness.
In the dimly lit room, the little maid tightly hugged her small dog plushie, kneeling on the bed with a sulky face, pouting her lips, and staring with round, bulging eyes—she looked just like an angry golden retriever squirrel.
Super fierce, so mad!
Roy had just come out of the bath when he saw Alice still maintaining the same pose she had while entering the bathroom. He couldn’t help but chuckle, “Still mad, huh?”
“Alice doesn’t want to be separated from the master.”
“That guy just said it offhandedly; there’s no need to take it to heart.”
“Alice doesn’t want to be separated from the master!”
Alice repeated a bit louder and then buried her head in anger.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s the church or the saint; those things are irrelevant.”
“As long as I have the master, having the master is enough.”
Usually such a well-behaved little maid, she could sometimes throw a tantrum like a child.
But compared to her usual silent, cold demeanor, this was her truest self, right?
Thinking this way, Roy climbed onto the bed and gently hugged the little maid from behind.
The little maid was momentarily stunned but didn’t resist; after the initial tension, she gradually softened like a petal wet with dew.
“Remember the Wind Fire Feast in the Kingdom of Jinsha?” Roy reminisced as he rested his hand on the little maid’s head.
“Of course, I remember.” Alice replied, her displeased mood somewhat alleviated by her sense of embarrassment.
They danced all night long, until her feet hurt so much she could barely walk back, and her master had to carry her to the room.
In every sense, it was an unforgettable experience.
Roy recited a poem he had heard from Douglas: “It is said that when the sun sets, the starlight fades, the west wind stops, and before the moonlight sinks, those who dance with fire will have romances that burn bright and everlasting, eternally entwined.”
“However, even if the flames go out, we continue to dance. So for us, even if the enduring bonfire is completely extinguished, our bond will not vanish.”
“No one can separate us. Not even the Holy Light Church.” Roy lightly yet firmly assured the girl.
Though using a romantic poem as a metaphor felt a bit strange.
“……Mm!”
At last, the little maid’s gloom lifted.
But she didn’t escape from Roy’s embrace; instead, she comfortably leaned back, lying against his chest.
The golden-haired little maid hugged her small dog plushie while she herself stuck to the black-haired boy like a large plush toy, creating a strangely harmonious scene.
The smell of her freshly bathed master was pleasantly fragrant…
Alice closed her eyes contentedly, indulging in it, feeling all the bad mood of the day dissipate.
The little maid also smelled sweet after her bath.
Roy felt the same way.
Her silky golden hair, delicate white skin, and aside from her floral scent, there was a faint milky fragrance from her body wash.
However, compared to the soothing comfort, Alice seemed to present a light temptation to Roy.
Her loose, simple white bathrobe didn’t reveal too much skin, but the delicate areas of her neck, arms, and soft thighs peeking out from under the hem were enough to stir one’s feelings.
Especially as the little maid had long matured, far from the skinny girl she used to be, which made Roy inevitably a bit flustered.
No, absolutely not!
If anything reacted in this position, the little maid would certainly notice, and that would ruin his image as a master completely!
With his obsession over maintaining his image and not wanting to be disliked by Alice, Roy struggled against the wicked thoughts in his mind.
Fortunately, Alice spoke up just in time, redirecting Roy’s attention: “Master, did Alice not do well today?”
“The Archbishop has a point. Alice hasn’t achieved as much as they have; if it comes to votes, that will be very unfavorable.”
“Now that we’ve rejected the Archbishop’s assistance, things will only get worse for the Saint’s Trial, right?” Alice mumbled with some distress.
“It’s okay, Alice is the best.”
Roy rubbed Alice’s head and softly promised, “I’ll make sure you win, absolutely.”
Such simple words, but coming from Roy’s mouth, filled Alice with immense reassurance.
She never doubted the boy’s promises.
But this time, she covered her face with the dog plushie, silently biting her lip.
Over the past two days, Roy had been running around, negotiating with various parties, preparing for the Saint’s primary selection, and she had witnessed it all.
Roy would definitely help her win the Saint’s primary selection.
However, as a maid, she should be helping her master, not just enjoying the benefits!
Her toes crossed, she tightened a bit.
No, even if she weren’t a maid, she couldn’t entirely rely on the master.
She too must stand alongside Roy, like Charlotte and the others, to earn the right to be by his side.
“Master, Alice will try hard, too.”
“Mm? Mm-mm, I believe in you.”
Feeling a bit dismissed, Alice insisted, “Alice will really try hard!”
“Got it, now get some rest~”
Roy extinguished the magical candle, pulled the covers up, and enveloped Alice within them.
Until falling asleep, the little maid still murmured in frustration, “Alice will really try hard…”
————————
On the same night.
Candidates for the Saint from the Eastern Continent gathered in a room, discussing matters concerning the Saint’s preliminary selection.
Jay lounged on the table and asked casually, “Everyone’s votes are all good, right?”
“Do I need to tell you?” Oroya flipped her hair, flaunting her confidence, “The men from the Western Diocese are all my dogs; they’ll do what they’re supposed to without me even saying a word.”
“Don’t worry, I maintain my image; the followers of the Holy Light will make the right choice.” Visalia replied quietly from the side.
Whether it’s like Jay and Oroya, relying on a decade of consistent promotion, or Visalia, who meticulously works to achieve merits, they have all been the shining stars of their respective dioceses since childhood, and their glorious images are deeply ingrained in people’s hearts.
Coupled with the endorsement of the Holy Light faith, even common princes and princesses might not have as much popularity as they do.
“I’m not questioning any of you; the problem is, there’s also that pair from White Harbor this time.”
Jay covered his hand, which still ached slightly, looking a bit grave.
“I heard he has been closely interacting with various powers lately; if the seven major powers of the Western Continent all pull votes for him…”
“What? Are you worried your popularity will lose to a maid?” Oroya laughed aloud, “As for Roy, he’s not even a follower of the Holy Light!”
Visalia analyzed from the side as well, “Objectively speaking, not a single darius among the entire Western Continent’s followers of the Holy Light has more than one district. Not to mention, the seven major powers might not even fully promote him; who knows if they’ll even meet the minimum vote count to pass the prelims?”
“I just said it casually!” Jay chuckled as well.
Recalling the ferocity with which the boy had ignited his palm during their laughter, Jay felt a bit uneasy.
But what does that matter?
Being ruthless doesn’t mean he has much goodwill!
