Chapter 82: Charge Ahead
That brat really managed to win over his precious daughter completely.
Thinking back to Charlotte’s promise that was almost a yes to the proposal, Rob was now so furious he felt like spitting blood.
He hadn’t even become king yet, and he was already offering himself as a prize!
However, Rob couldn’t deny that the kid had the credentials.
Leading the troops forward, facing the black dragon, just this courage was enough to earn respect. Not to mention, this kid had previously taken down the Crimson Fire Dragon and repelled the Frost Giant Dragon—definitely someone with dragon-slaying potential to be given such an important task.
The city was holding out strong, even with two waves of reinforcements, they were still outmatched by the dragon tribe.
The only possibility of victory was to defeat the lead dragon just like nineteen years ago, and he was already severely injured, with Charlotte needing to guard the city and maintain morale.
The only hope to end this war rested on Roy Ainbrad, who represented much more than just the flame in Charlotte’s heart.
“Alright, let me lend my final support!”
“Father?”
“How can I, as king and a father, just stand by and watch during the decisive battle?!”
Rob flung off his cloak, and an uncontrollable fire roared from his body. The bandages turned to ashes, and even the gruesome wound on his chest, surrounded by magical energy, trembled slightly, momentarily suppressed by the raging flames.
A furious roar echoed through the skies, like the roar of a king of the jungle.
With a punch, flames transformed into a mighty lion that descended from the heavens. The sea of fire surged forth, and in that moment, even the overwhelming dragon horde seemed small.
One against thousands, a single person could turn the tide of battle. The presence of a high-level Extraordinary Being was enough to sway the outcome.
Whether it was the fire dragon capable of withstanding molten lava or the ice dragon shielded by cold, beneath the flames of the Inferno Lion King, they perished in the inferno, the tight encirclement was torn open in an instant.
“Hmph, no way I’m letting that brat hog all the glory…” grumbling like this, the Lionheart King was exhausted after one blow, escorted down by the knights.
That was already enough to serve as a morale-boosting first command.
The Griffon Knights soared into the sky, crossbows began to roar, and aggressive magical formations lit up the skies.
And Roy’s assault team didn’t miss this chance, launching an immediate attack.
Hundreds of Griffon Knights sliced through the burning gap like a sharp sword, penetrating the dragon horde.
The dragons never expected that the besieged side would take the initiative to counterattack, especially with a high-level Extraordinary Being leading the charge—it threw them into chaos.
Several flying dragons passed nearby, but Roy held back his urge to strike.
The mithril long sword slashed at the incoming dragons, while the crimson fiery fists guarded him on either side. The elite Wind Knight Brigade of the Lionheart Kingdom was now blocking all incoming dragons with swords, claws, and even their flesh.
Even the long-range firepower on the walls focused on this direction, prioritizing clearing out the surrounding enemies.
“Everyone, don’t get attached to fighting; our goal is to escort the Oath Knight to slay the black dragon!”
“Got it, right? My future brother-in-law can’t have any accidents!”
Karl and Naz took the lead, side by side, cutting down all enemies standing in their way with mid-tier Extraordinary Being strength. Every time their advance was blocked, a few Griffon Knights would stay back to cover them.
The sea of flames hadn’t dissipated yet, but nearly half of the riders had already vanished.
In the end, Karl was tangled up with a pureblood Ice Giant Dragon, while Naz faced off against a pureblood Acid Giant Dragon.
With one last glance, imprinting in his mind the Iron-Blooded Knights, the Lionheart Prince, and countless Griffon Knights, Roy didn’t look back as he guided his Griffon forward, leaving countless flying dragons behind.
In the frantic battlefield, there was no room for thanks or respect; victory was the best repayment.
But could the dragon tribe possibly fail to see such a simplistic tactic?
The Golden-Winged Griffin turned into a flash of thunder, rushing through countless dragons, but it couldn’t escape the gaze of the Frost Giant Dragon.
“You foolish mortal, you won’t succeed!”
Snow fell.
No more testing the waters or holding back, Marigoth went all out the moment he took action, his wings creating a frigid wind that turned everything in its path into a winter wonderland, extinguishing the embers in the sky in an instant.
The ice-blue giant loomed like an eerie blue moon, blocking Roy’s way.
Even the Golden-Winged Griffin couldn’t break through the barrier set by one of the Seven Heavenly Dragons.
“Big brother, should we use that?!” The Golden-Winged Griffin asked urgently amidst the snowstorm.
Bathed in the biting cold wind, Roy shook his head, “No need.”
Cheese’s Lightning Flash could turn into an energy form and pierce through the snowstorm, but it wasn’t necessary right now.
Not only did he need to hide his trump card, but he also believed that the kingdom’s power wouldn’t let him down.
She wouldn’t let him down.
The roaring ice dragon was about to strike, but before it could, a towering column of fire erupted from the direction of the capital.
Crimson arrows shot forward, their sound resembling cannonballs bursting forth instead of mere arrows.
Accompanied by a dazzling scarlet tail flame, a terrifying strike condensed from the primal fire erupted from the body of the ice dragon, piercing through its renowned icy scales, causing torrents of dragon blood to spill, and the Frost King’s roar transformed into a cry of pain.
“Even from a thousand meters away, daring to ignore my existence, how presumptuous!”
A beastly form with flame ears and a tail emerged on the girl, her handsome features framing the molten patterns on either side.
The mythical beast form, traits of the Inferno Lion King, and the potent aura of a high-level Extraordinary Being made even the Frost Giant Dragon tremble.
Even the masters of the skies wouldn’t underestimate the flame’s might.
Seizing the chance, the Golden-Winged Griffin slipped away beside Roy.
The Frost Giant Dragon wore a savage expression but didn’t dare to look away, knowing all too well that if it let its guard down for even a moment, a stronger attack than before would come crashing in.
If it had been the Marigoth of the past, he would have treated this formidable enemy, who was no less than the actual Inferno Lion King, with caution.
But its ice-blue pupils were now completely saturated with the deep magic energy akin to the black dragon; its bloodline was boiling, and all that filled its mind was the desire to kill.
“Just a mere mortal king, how dare you be rude to us, the masters of the skies? You will pay for your foolishness!”
The ice dragon’s breath swept through the skies like an enormous cold sword falling from the heavens.
However, the crimson princess merely scoffed, swiping with her claws.
“Perfect. With Roy’s help earlier, the title of Dragon-Slaying Princess feels undeserved.”
“The Radiant Knight is unworthy of being a queen; let you write my glory instead!”
Primal flames danced wildly as the rising Lion King clashed directly with the breath of the ice dragon, dividing the battlefield into flames and ice in an instant.
Feeling the terrifying wave of power surging behind him, Roy resisted the urge to look back once more and urged Cheese to press on.
Finally, he cut through the dragon swarm, beyond the azure skies, reaching that familiar volcano.
On the half-destroyed, cliff-like edge, molten lava flowed like tainted blood.
Amidst the countless dragons surrounding it, a black-haired man clad in dragon robes stood proudly at the mountain peak, casting a cold, dark golden gaze down.
