Chapter 3: A Gathering
“Sweet talk, smooth tongue, is that how you seduce them into bed?”
“Not really, I’m only this sweet to my cutest little elf girlfriend.”
“Ugh, that’s so cheesy… but I like it.”
The elven girl beamed, like a bright morning sun or a delightful spring breeze.
She lifted her silky white thigh and gracefully rolled over to land next to Roy.
Then, she spread her arms wide, ready to give him a big hug.
A hug in every possible sense.
“Welcome back! You’ve really worked hard on this trip!”
Drowning in this soft, fluffy embrace, Roy mumbled, “I’m back.”
If the elf girl’s smile is spiritually healing, then being engulfed in this unbelievably cozy sensation was physically healing, making him relax without even realizing it.
Especially at home, Nia always wore a loose white shirt, with nothing but a bra underneath, not hiding her skin at all, making Roy fully feel her warmth.
After clinging to each other for a bit, Nia finally loosened her grip a little.
“By the way, do you notice anything different about me?”
Her eyes sparkled like butterfly wings, gleaming with anticipation.
Roy, no longer the oblivious newbie, quickly compared the girl before him with his memories.
“Your hair has gotten longer?”
“Uh, yeah, it has grown a bit…” Nia fiddled with her hair ends, a bit stunned.
“Then it means you’ve lost weight?”
Nia’s expression turned even more complicated, “Doesn’t seem like it.”
Roy, recalling the soft curves that nearly popped the buttons off his shirt, replied, “Uh… then you’ve gained weight?”
“Hey!”
Nia couldn’t hold it back this time.
No way, didn’t she notice she just hit Rank 5?!
Since finding out Roy and Charlotte had both leveled up after hitting high ranks, Nia already gave up on shocking them.
But can’t you at least give me a compliment? A small progress is still progress! You can’t just ignore my growth because you’re too strong, right?!
Thinking of this, Nia puffed her cheeks like a pufferfish, her eyes welling up with tears.
But just as her cheeks got puffier and she was ready to spill her grievances, Roy burst into laughter.
“You silly, how could I not notice?”
“Congratulations on leveling up twice to Rank 5, that’s impressive!”
Roy lightly poked her delicate elf ear with his finger, and her sulky mood evaporated instantly.
However, amidst the giggles, her tears just kept flowing.
Natasha’s praises, the adventurers’ admiration—none compared to Roy’s acknowledgment, which made her heart flutter. Only now did Nia truly feel that all her training and adventures over the past few months had finally paid off.
“Wah, I thought you really didn’t care about my little progress, waah waah waah!”
The elven girl dove into his arms, flailing her feet, unable to hold back her loud sobs, leaving Roy both amused and helpless.
Who would’ve thought cheerful Nia would have such a sensitive side?
With that thought, Roy felt a tinge of concern for her.
“Hey, what’s up with you, green tea? What did you do to her?!”
Charlotte, who rushed out upon hearing the commotion, was met with the sight of the elven girl wailing, completely stunned.
“Why is my master bullying Nia?!”
Then Alice, now in her maid outfit, peeked out from behind Charlotte, equally puzzled.
“I’m not…”
“Waaah! Roy’s toying with my heart, sob sob… it hurts so much!”
Forget what I just said—this girl is super sensitive!
Roy pinched Nia’s pointed ear, putting an end to her accusations.
Leanna had gone to the border of the Golden Sands Kingdom to investigate the chaos caused by the demon race, while Xue Nuo remained on alert at the border of the Winter Empire for any movements from the imperial family.
With two people suddenly gone, the previously crowded dining table felt a bit emptier.
But with Nia, the happy-go-lucky, the table was never short of lively chatter.
After a good night’s rest, Roy took the three girls and headed to the Golden Sands Mansion for a meeting.
It wasn’t uncommon for leaders of various factions to meet privately; Roy had received Douglas’s invitation even before returning to school.
It was also the perfect opportunity for Roy to discuss various matters with Douglas, so he readily accepted.
However, once he arrived, Roy realized the meeting was way more formal than he had imagined.
Thank goodness the conference room at Golden Sands Mansion was spacious enough to accommodate so many people at once.
“Didn’t expect His Highness the Crown Prince and the Academy Head would also be here.”
“With everyone gathered, as the Prince of the Southern Seas, it’s only right for me to attend.”
“I’m just an old man with nothing better to do, so I thought I’d join—please don’t mind me.”
The Saintess of White Harbor, the Lionheart Princess, the Elven Nightingale, the Prince of Golden Sands and Southern Seas, plus the actual ruler of the Mage Association, the Sage…
With all these big shots gathered, there was no way the atmosphere could be taken lightly. Even Nia rarely sat up straight, her little face stern with seriousness.
Since he invited various parties to support Alice, it was the first time Roy saw the core leaders of different factions gathered together, making him a bit uneasy.
“Should I step out for a bit?”
As soon as he said that, everyone turned to look at him in unison, which made Roy feel inexplicably anxious.
“Step out? As the Dragon Slayer Knight, who would dare disrespect you?”
“Master… if Roy leaves, then Alice leaves too.”
“+1!”
Charlotte and Alice chimed in to support him, while Nia really couldn’t sit still, wishing he’d just hurry up and leave so she could sneak away.
On the other side, Douglas chuckled.
“Mr. Roy has become quite the joker.”
“We owe it to you that we can gather here; without you, this meeting wouldn’t happen.”
Hearing Douglas say that, Roy stopped refusing.
To be honest, even though he was used to the admiration of the Lionheart people, he still felt a bit out of place chatting with the leaders of various factions.
He didn’t seem to have any serious standing, making him feel like a freeloader crashing the meeting of some high-class executive!
“First, I’d like to welcome Mr. Roy, His Highness Charlotte, and Ms. Alice back triumphantly, putting an end to the turmoil caused by the Dragon Clan.”
With that, Douglas took the lead, guiding the meeting along smoothly.
In the beginning, the discussions revolved around trivial matters, including support for rebuilding the kingdom, the expansion of churches in various regions, and a bunch of topics that made Roy feel drowsy.
Fortunately, they soon moved on to subjects that piqued Roy’s interest a bit more.
“By the way, there has been increasing chaos from the demon race on our borders lately; I fear they may be plotting something big soon.”
“Isn’t your senior over there? How’s she doing?” Roy expressed concern for Leanna.
Douglas’s expression grew strange at those words: “Well…”
Seeing Douglas suddenly go silent made Roy a bit anxious.
To his surprise, Douglas said, “She’s doing well.”
“In fact, maybe even a little too well.”
