I’m Really Not Trying to Be Chased by the Heroine as the Villainous Playboy! – Chapter 929

Chapter 26: The True Face of Valoran

Adventurer Roderick, with black hair and dark eyes, was rather handsome. A Sequence 7 bloodline rank was already quite good for a young man without significant power background.

After a whole day of surveillance, Tal’s conclusion matched the intelligence he had previously gathered.

To be honest, Tal didn’t think the other party was worthy of the Forest Elf, nor did he believe Lord Valoran needed to be so cautious. After tracking all day, he was starting to feel a bit bored.

Hiding in the crowd, out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of the elven youth in the distance, yawning with boredom.

The Shadow Elf, inheriting the bloodline of the Dark Elf, was always good at masking their presence. Tal, being among the elite, had already reached Sequence 6 at a young age and was trusted by Valoran.

As a standout among the younger generation of the Verdant Council, Tal had a low opinion of the incoming adventurers, and he was even irritated by Roderick’s closeness with Nia.

The nightingale wasn’t an official title but a term of endearment for the most beautiful elven girl of the generation. On top of that, Nia had awakened her Forest Elf bloodline, making her the dream girl of all elven youths.

Tal included.

The crude adventurer was utterly unworthy of being compared to Miss Nia and certainly didn’t deserve Lord Valoran’s attention.

What was there to watch? It’d be better to just get rid of him.

Tal thought maliciously, letting out a chuckle.

Just then, his expression stiffened.

The two figures suddenly moved quickly.

Discovered? No way!

The Dark Elf was slightly inferior to the Forest Elf. He hadn’t underestimated the gap between Sequence 6 and Sequence 5, keeping a proper distance and using the crowd for cover, so he shouldn’t have been too close.

Not having time to ponder the reason, Tal hurriedly stepped into the alley to follow.

But as soon as he entered the alley, he could no longer sense the two.

“What the…”

“Anything is possible.”

Tal suddenly turned around, drawing his dagger with lightning speed, clearly a trained assassin, not just a dark sentry.

Unfortunately, the other party merely gave him a casual elbow, and Tal’s eyes widened, his tongue sticking out like a shrimp as he made a strange “guk” sound, collapsing to the ground, vomiting stomach acid.

“Seriously, someone was actually following us? What was Mom’s watchdog doing?” Nia complained.

Roy shot her a glance, retorting, “You didn’t notice until I told you?”

“I-I was just a bit careless…”

What a joke? That hit was really Sequence 7 power?!

Tal was greatly shocked but quickly regained his composure, revealing a hint of coolness.

This Roderick was no ordinary opponent, but he was ultimately an outsider.

He didn’t even manage to take control immediately and was instead casually chatting with Miss Nia, leaving so many openings. If it weren’t for some props he used earlier for the sneak attack, he could’ve killed him ten times!

Displeased or not, he still had to follow the mission guidelines. To avoid revealing his identity, Tal dared not act.

“Who sent you…!”

Taking advantage of Roderick’s leisurely questioning, Tal suddenly threw a flying knife.

In a daze, a terrifying blood-red shimmer flickered in the boy’s eye.

But whatever that ability was, it didn’t matter anymore.

Tal chuckled to himself, seizing the opportunity, turning into a swift shadow, scaling the treehouse wall, and quickly distancing himself from the two.

Having successfully escaped back to Valoran’s side, Tal reported everything as it happened.

“Overall, besides being a bit stronger than I expected, Roderick has nothing special about him.”

“Nothing special? So how did he discover you?”

Under Valoran’s questioning, Tal opened his mouth as if recalling something, but quickly forgot.

“Probably discovered it thanks to Miss Nia’s ability.”

“And what do you think about his combat power as a guard?”

“Stronger than your average Sequence 7, but still just Sequence 6. One-on-one, I could handle him myself.” Tal scoffed, even a bit impatient.

“You can leave now.”

After Tal left, Valoran looked at his obviously injured and slightly limping back, his brow furrowing slightly as he uttered two words.

“Waste.”

Not only had he been discovered while surveilling, but he’d also been injured – it was utterly embarrassing.

Fortunately, he hadn’t been caught by the other party, preventing his identity from being revealed, thus maintaining the last line of defense as a pawn.

However, being able to easily catch Tal meant that Roderick was indeed not as simple as he appeared.

Valoran turned to the window.

At some point, a bird made of decayed matter had landed there, staring back with hollow eyes.

“Sequence 7? No, someone selected to be Nia Molly’s guard cannot be an ordinary individual. If you truly want to eliminate the Forest Elf, for caution’s sake, it’s best to treat him as Sequence 6, or even Sequence 5, when formulating a strategy.” Valoran instructed solemnly.

The decayed bird nodded slightly, “Rest assured, by the name of the Mother God, we will succeed this time. Not even a true Sequence 5 can stop us.”

“Flesh is weak; only the Mother God endures!”

With tiny yellow-green veins surging in the eyes, Valoran smiled at the rotting bird and repeated, “Flesh is weak; only the Mother God endures!”

————————

Meanwhile.

Inside the Divine Tree.

“So, the one monitoring you is sent by Valoran?”

Even Janthea was taken aback by the news Roy brought.

Right during the rampant period of All Things Wither, the other party suddenly set their sights on Nia, making it hard for Janthea not to be on guard.

Roy’s judgment was more straightforward.

“Lady Janthea, let me be frank. I suspect Valoran has some sort of collusion with All Things Wither and is plotting against Nia.”

“I often disagree with Lord Valoran politically, but I never thought he would go this far…”

Janthea’s expression turned serious: “Roy, it’s not that I don’t trust you, but you’re accusing the deputy of the Verdant Council of betrayal. Do you have any evidence?”

“Thanks to you, I have mastered the blood clan’s illusions. You should know very well that Charm can penetrate the visions in a person’s heart, and a mere low-to-mid-tier Extraordinary Being simply can’t resist. I can assure you, Valoran is directly the superior of Tal. Even if he’s not part of All Things Wither, he certainly plans to do something to Nia.”

To avoid startling the snake, Roy hadn’t chosen to capture the stalker.

Charm was enough for him to obtain the needed information, and even if he captured the stalker, the information a mere dark sentry could provide would be limited.

The influential Valoran would likely treat the stalker as a discarded pawn, distancing himself from the incident.

Of course, relying on his single word would still be a bit difficult to prompt Janthea into action.

But Roy wasn’t counting solely on himself.

“Mom, you know Roy would never lie to us! If he saw it, he definitely saw it. Even if Valoran is unrelated to All Things Wither, he surely wants to cause us trouble!”

Nia’s angry words were more effective than anything else.

After a slight sigh, Janthea’s gaze turned cold: “At tomorrow’s meeting, I will settle this score with him.”

“If Valoran has truly betrayed the bloodline of the elves, I will ensure he pays the price.”
