28. Playing with Fire on the Blade’s Edge

Light music drifted through the bar, occasionally mingling with bursts of laughter tinged with drunkenness.

Wen Han was long accustomed to this sort of atmosphere. She returned to the counter and sat down, with Qin Long sitting beside her as expected.

“Why did you come so late today?” Qin Long asked gently.

“Nothing, really,” Wen Han replied, shaking her head with a forced smile, as if burdened by something unspoken.

Qin Long frowned in confusion, then noticed the red marks on her hand.

“What happened to your hand?!”

She quickly placed her hand behind her back. “It’s nothing, I just hurt myself…”

“Is it that crazy woman?!” Qin Long’s eyes widened.

Wen Han remained silent for a moment before forcing a laugh. “No, she… she’s already quite pitiful.”

“That damn woman actually dared to…”

“Hey!” Wen Han frowned immediately. “Don’t use such language, I don’t like it.”

“I… fine, I’ll listen to you.” Qin Long sighed helplessly. “Are you okay? Let me see, does it still hurt?”

“I’m really fine, just a minor injury.” Wen Han lowered her head. “But… Mr. Qin, I think we should probably end our relationship.”

“Why?!!” Qin Long stood up abruptly, then seemed to understand. “Because of her? Don’t worry, I’ll take care of Lin Xiaomei soon! I promise she won’t bother you anymore!”

Wen Han looked up worriedly. “Mr. Qin, please don’t do anything wrong!”

“Do you worry about me?” Qin Long smiled again and sat down. “Don’t worry. This is a law-abiding society; I won’t harm her.”

“Then what…?”

“I’m just helping her get to where she belongs!”

Wen Han rolled her eyes. “…Are you sending her to prison?!”

“Exactly. That crazy woman deceived so many people. Before, no one could find her or had enough information or power to stop her. But now…” Qin Long said proudly, as if he were claiming credit, “I’ve hired the best lawyer. She’ll never get out of prison!”

“Mr. Qin…” Wen Han thought deeply, but finally sighed. “Deceiving so many people, she deserves legal punishment.”

“Yes! Alright, let’s not talk about that crazy woman.”

“Okay, then…”

Under dim lights, they exchanged glances, laughing and chatting.

On Wen Han’s waist, a recording phone was capturing every word clearly as the numbers ticked by.

“I’ve hired the best lawyer. She won’t get out of prison…”

The phone played the previous night’s recording.

In the bathroom, Wen Han chuckled after hearing the whole thing and backed up the recording in different software.

“Everything is almost ready. But… do I really have to join the Recycling Station?”

She muttered to herself until her daughter’s voice brought her back to reality.

After dropping her daughter off at kindergarten, Wen Han turned to leave.

She opened her phone and saw a message from Qin Long sent while she was walking.

[My dad is coming home tonight, don’t forget our agreement.]

She sneered and was about to reply when she heard an abrupt screech ahead.

Screech!

A car braked hastily, causing an elderly woman using crutches to fall and cry out in pain.

“Grandma, are you alright?!”

Hmm? Whose voice is this…

Wen Han raised her head and saw Su Zeheng rushing over to help the old lady up.

“How are you?” He held the old lady and looked at the driver who got out of the car. “How could you drive like that?”

“Sorry, sorry!” The driver hurried over. “Did you hurt yourself, ma’am? I… I… Let’s get you in the car.”

“I’ll help you.” Su Zeheng helped the old lady into the driver’s car, repeatedly saying, “Drive more carefully in the future!”

“Yes, yes!” The driver nervously smiled, looking worried.

The car quickly disappeared under the watchful eyes of passersby, and the crowd dispersed.

Su Zeheng sighed, then turned around and saw Wen Han staring at him.

“Hi~” He walked over smiling.

Wen Han crossed her arms, her eyes cold. “Uncle, you really enjoy meddling in other people’s affairs.”

“It’s just a small favor.” Su Zeheng spread his hands. “If my own elders fell, I’d hope someone would help too. As long as it doesn’t harm others, I believe it’s the right thing to do.”

“Aren’t you afraid of being blackmailed? There are plenty of cases like that in the news.”

“Since it’s in the news, it means it’s a rare situation.” Su Zeheng shook his head with a smile. “Besides, there’s surveillance and dashcam footage. Do you think I’m naive?”

“Alright.” Wen Han cut him off and looked thoughtfully at the scene of the “accident.” “Don’t tell me this was just a coincidence.”

Su Zeheng laughed awkwardly.

Wen Han rolled her eyes. “You’re really a pervert!”

“I didn’t come here to ask you to join the Light Magic Society because I believe you’ll make your own choice.”

“Then why are you here today?!”

Just as Su Zeheng was about to explain, he noticed Wen Han’s collarbone. “Your tattoo… is gone?”

Wen Han frowned and looked down at her delicate collarbone.

The temporary tattoo had fallen off early in the morning due to poor placement, and she hadn’t paid attention since she was in a hurry to take Little Yuan to school. She kept silent, pondering.
