Chapter 1: The STK Practice Room
The STK practice room was as busy as ever.
The coaching staff was busy extracting and analyzing data from the latest scrims, while feedback was actively shared among team members.
“Alright, the scrim schedule is finally over. Let’s move on to the next practice quickly,” declared the coach loudly to lighten the mood.
The scrim ended in a 2:1 victory for STK.
The team was in their prime, dominating opponents like a king whether it was a real match or a scrim.
Yet, at this moment, none of them were showing any signs of a winner’s joy.
A strange atmosphere surrounded the entire team, something Eunha keenly felt.
After all, how could she not? The source of that atmosphere was deeply tied to her.
To quickly adapt to the upcoming preseason, everyone had sacrificed part of their vacation and returned to the dorms.
But that was only the surface reason; the truth was something else entirely.
Everyone knew the major trigger was the last brawl tournament.
However, the team members avoided bringing it up.
It had become a sort of taboo. Eunha understood the reason behind it.
They were all pros, after all.
“A blow to their pride, indeed.”
It was acceptable to lose against amateurs in solo ranks.
It wasn’t a team game focused on one-on-one engagements.
Even if things went south during a game, it was considered a variable dependent on the team dynamics, and most of them simply thought of it as bad luck to easily brush it off.
Sure, there were times when losing to an amateur was unavoidable.
But usually, the loss felt contained within acceptable limits of the game.
The problem, however, was that this time, those limits were shattered during the brawl tournament.
Without any external interference, they fought purely based on individual skills and, ultimately, the ‘Lotus’ lost.
It wasn’t just about losing.
Everyone felt the weight of the fight between Friede and Lotus.
No matter how much they replayed it in their minds, the same question lingered constantly.
“Can I beat that person?” Doubts about their own ability surfaced.
Even though it seemed like the last vlog ended on a warm note, it was clear that in the midst of such despair, a scratch had been made on their pride.
Ironically, Eunha, one of the key players in that event, felt little to no regret.
She felt more joy in meeting her sister than sorrow over losing to Friede.
Maybe because of that, she found herself a bit perplexed by the current subdued atmosphere of the team, which was in stark contrast to her laid-back nature.
“They’re taking it too hard for just one match.”
What if it wasn’t her but another team member who had faced off against her sister?
Would she be lost in the same turmoil as them, desperately tending to her wounded pride, with fire in her eyes, focusing on fierce practice?
Eunha shook her head.
It’s an unknown matter.
The only certainty was that she viewed it as a good opportunity.
Having the chance to fight against her sister… now it had turned into a new connection.
As images of Friede’s face and her sister Sehee’s face came to her mind, new possibilities swirled chaotically in her head.
When should I swing by again?
Ah, if only I had known a little earlier, I could have taken a nice trip during this vacation.
Now, with the team members returning and gearing up for the next season, it felt incredibly frustrating not to have time to step away.
“Calm down. Opportunities don’t just come once.”
Right, opportunities are bound to come around again.
Maybe later, I’ll head down to Jeju Island or the beach for a fun outing.
Grilling some fish together while strolling along the shoreline sounds nice.
As Eunha continued imagining, a warm smile unknowingly spread across her face.
Just then.
“Hey, the flower of the solo ranks who got wrecked like a combine harvester—how about we duo together?”
Eunha snapped out of her thoughts at the teasing voice coming from the side, frowning as she responded.
“Huh? Go away.”
“No way! Even Chanhyuk and everyone are soloing. I was hoping you’d be my duo. You’re the only one left now!”
“What’s this ‘wrecked like a combine harvester’ nonsense? Are you looking for trouble? Did you think you were any better?”
“No way, I would’ve gone down even if I played.”
Caught off guard by his optimistic laughter, Eunha momentarily lost her words but soon shook her head.
This guy, Yoonsoo, along with Chanhyuk, was among the most annoying people to deal with from Eunha’s perspective.
Chanhyuk was notable as a renowned Warden player, but Yoonsoo was just a playful jokester.
That trait sometimes boosted the team mood, but he could easily kill the vibe if he went overboard.
“I heard some juicy info before the event. There’s a massive scoop, and I’ll share it if you duo with me. Hehe.”
With a smile that didn’t seem sinister but rather like an internet troll, Eunha was appalled.
“What are you talking about?”
“Come on, can’t do it just verbally? Play 10 duo games with me.”
“Forget it. 5 games.”
“Aww.”
What’s up with ‘aw’ from a grown man?
“So, what’s this massive scoop? If it’s nothing, I won’t let you off easy.”
“Ooo, have high expectations. It’s none other than…”
As Yoonsoo slightly opened his eyes in anticipation, he leaned in and whispered to Eunha.
“They’re inviting streamers for the upcoming event, and Friede seems to be included.”
“My sister?”
“Wait, what? Are you already on friendly terms with that sister of yours?”
Oops.
I just gave him unnecessary bait with that moment of weakness.
“Wow, amazing! Eunha, are you close with Friede? Was it from that vlog? Did you meet her directly? What about a duo plan?”
“No, hold on for a second.”
“No, that’s not fair! Don’t you think all the team members should know this? I even subscribed to Friede’s stream. Is there even a chance she’d collaborate with me? Could she come in as an STK guest streamer? After seeing that collaboration, I became an instant fan. Sub alerts and everything were turned on.”
Ugh, he wouldn’t stop rambling.
Under the barrage of constant questions, Eunha felt a bit dizzy.
But more importantly, her sister was participating in the tournament?
A small smile crept onto Eunha’s lips.
