Former Hero Streamer – Chapter 141

Strange Things.

Dahyung’s gaze fell upon that woman, and she was definitely strange.

In a sharp black suit with long, neatly styled hair down to her shoulders.

‘Secretary? Career woman?’

Wearing rimless glasses, her calm demeanor gave her a refined office-girl appearance.

If that was all there was to it, Dahyung would’ve just looked away, but upon closer inspection, something felt off about her.

“Is there someone at Sehee unnie’s house? That can’t be…”

The way she fidgeted while looking at unnie’s house clearly suggested she had a purpose for being there. Although there was still some distance, Dahyung squinted to get a better look. Perhaps thanks to her connection to the Hero gradually coming back, she could even make out the button shapes from a fair distance.

‘Even though she’s wearing black, the stains aren’t really visible… but there are numerous dirt spots. The wrinkles are piled on, and there’s lint sticking out in places. Her hair isn’t long, but it’s oddly stiff. The makeup is worn off, but… there are traces of it that weren’t properly removed.’

What can I say?

I’m not sure if this expression is appropriate, but she looked like a helpless employee who got fired from her job and ended up living on the street for several days, all scraped up…

In short, there was absolutely nothing ordinary about her.

‘Better be careful.’

Feeling an inexplicable tension, Dahyung approached cautiously. Supposedly, unnie had mentioned that not only were her family connections gone, but even relatives were disconnected now. With such a drastic physical change, there’s no way anyone would recognize her. Yet, the fact that she was loitering around this house… definitely meant she ‘knew’ Sehee unnie. Surely, she wouldn’t be lurking just because the house was nice.

Who could she be? Could she be a new Hero? Perhaps. But there are other possibilities too. The curse that tricked Dahyung in the first place was a fragment of the “Demon King” that came along with her to this world. There might be a Demon King hiding in Earth after being unable to defeat the Hero in this realm. It’s not a complete zero percent chance; it’s very much a possibility of the worst case.

‘I’m not fully powerful yet, but…’

Ready to dash into unnie’s house if needed, Dahyung spoke up to her, “Uh… do you have business here?”

As she abruptly turned her head and their eyes met, Dahyung felt a moment of panic and instinctively took a step back.

This woman’s blue eyes were sparkling like Welsh Corgis, and it felt so strange.

“Are you a resident of this house?”

Her voice was pleasantly soft, but it had a unique tone that resonated deeply in Dahyung’s ears.

“Uh… not yet.”

Oh no!

Not yet, she says!

I mean, it’s easy to imagine living here under the comfortable conditions when one only has to pay a mere 100,000 won in maintenance fees for a place that offers top-notch amenities, especially in these economically tough times.

But… still…!

‘Was I really looking to crawl into my unnie’s house and suck away all the benefits like a parasite?’

That’s not very Hero-like, is it? Wouldn’t it just be a matter of burrowing into the holy bosom of Friede mama? Or is that even how it works?

Caught in a muddle of confusion, Dahyung accidentally covered her mouth with her palm, but her already departed words drifted into the air and reached the other person’s ears.

Feeling a slight movement stir from her bag, she realized she even carried a thin wallet. The thought of hiding in a mouse hole made her dizzy.

“Then in this house… uh, how should I explain this?”

The other person, displaying equally peculiar reactions, looked quite anxious too.

What was going on with her?

* * *

“Hehehe.”

Despite her laughter being drowned out by incessant keyboard clattering, Ajin didn’t care.

Before a series of PCs, ghostly figures identical to her were busy editing away.

A grind toward reclaiming Friede’s rank one spot.

More than three days of relentless winning streak felt like a storm. The number of rank games played by Friede in “Soul Warfare” had been ludicrously massive. This meant Ajin had to process an overwhelming amount of gems to refine the quality and quantity of editing. Back in the day, she wouldn’t have had the bandwidth to try out such a daunting task, but now, enjoying a nearly NEET-like lifestyle, she was quite capable of handling it.

“Number One, have you finished editing the duo part with the lotus and unnie?”

In response to Ajin’s question, her clone, labeled with a “1,” silently nodded.

Now that she could exert some power at unnie’s house, it became necessary to optimize this labor without a care.

After some thought, Ajin assigned numbers to every PC according to their specific duties in editing Friede’s streaming broadcasts.

There were various tasks.

Classifying and segmenting streaming videos according to themes.

Heavily editing and processing footage allocated to specific themes.

Searching for memes and sources for use in the videos from the internet or other media.

Gathering available audio resources for editing.

And much more.

Normally, editing one video could take days, but now she could crank out several videos in a single day.

High-quality videos were uploaded rapidly after Friede’s live streams, often posting multiple day’s worth of content due to the story-based video splits.

At this rate, the speed of work was truly impressive. Moreover, her editing skills shined with a talent for humor that surpassed the live broadcasts.

It was essentially Team Ajin at work.

With so many clones scattered about, what was the original Ajin doing?

The answer was simple.

“Burp!”

Feeling satisfied with a full belly and warm back was now a daily routine.

“This is heaven. Hehe.”

After her fingers shuffled around in a chip bag a few times, she picked up five appropriately sized potato chips and stuffed them into her mouth with a contented smile.

“Unnie truly is amazing.”

She really managed to pull this off.

Ajin was watching the reactions to Friede’s broadcast.

After all, her clones were handling all the video editing, so she was the one responsible for channel management and feedback assessment. She thought of this role as the closest one to managing her unnie, so it was a responsibility she’d never relinquished to anyone.

And…

“I did follow through as unnie suggested, but…”

Ajin caught a glimpse of a hidden meme meant for Heroes only, visible only to her.

Even though she checked multiple times in hope of it being fine,

“Will it be okay?”

The lingering worry that someone might catch onto it sent prickles of unease up her spine.

After all, it was her first time doing something like this, and new tasks always come with a blend of excitement and anxiety.

“Will other Heroes really come looking at this?”

It wasn’t mandatory for them to view this video.

To be exact, it was a principle of slowly spreading through the internet via this video.

The more videos edited in such a manner over time… there would be a slow but steady positive effect.

‘How could this even be possible…’

Ajin marveled at the extreme intricacy of Sehee unnie’s power.

Even back in her prime, it was hard for another Hero like Ajin to grasp this mechanism.

Well, best not to overthink it. After all, it was all for everyone’s good, and unnie was working hard for that reason.

“Oh, this is so blissful.”

Letting go of her worries, all that was left in her mind was comfort.

Living rent-free meant saving money, and unnie’s salary was generous enough to knock down any corporate executive’s ego time and again, leaving everything behind in a state of happiness.

By this point, it truly made it feel like Park Dahyung was the foolish one; why, in the world, was she not moving into unnie’s house?

It would be so sweet like this. Well, upon serious consideration, the answer quickly dawned.

‘As usual, she’s just putting up a useless front. So unnecessary.’

If mother worried, wouldn’t it be better to get a job with unnie, quickly earn money, and just live in the house she provided?

“Fine. If she feels like it, she’ll come eventually.”

Snorting dismissively, Ajin threw herself onto the bed.

“So boring.”

Compared to the days when she had saved the world, this daily routine was too placid and tranquil, and she felt herself getting lazy.

Just then, feeling all the blood had drained from her body, she stretched with all her might.

“Oof!”

—Bang! Bang! Bang!

“What the? Who is it?”

Just as she was enjoying a pleasant stretch, an unexpected intruder barged in.

Ajin frowned, entirely displeased by the sudden annoyance.

Who would pound on the door so rudely without even ringing the doorbell?

‘I think I know who it is without them saying a word…’

This house is strictly off-limits to anyone other than Heroes.

In other words, if someone has entered, it meant they were definitely a Hero. And if they were this rude, it could only be one person.

—Bang! Bang! Bang!

“Yes, yes. Thick-skulled sister, damn it, bang bang bang.”

When the door opened, as expected, the one who burst in was Park Dahyung.

“Hey!”

The sudden shouting woke up Ajin’s drowsy mind instantly, and she furrowed her brows.

“You scared me! What’s up all of a sudden?”

“Where’s unnie? I couldn’t reach her!”

“Unnie went out for a bit… huh? Who’s that person?”

Ajin was taken aback by the office girl standing timidly behind Dahyung.

Why was there an outsider in this building?

“Hey, this is bad!”

Once their gazes met, demanding an explanation, Dahyung spoke hysterically.

“A Hero has appeared!”

“What?!”
