Your Commander-in-Chief – Chapter 50

The magical formation floating in the sky was continuously spilling out the hell mana that Nerim had used.

The hell mana leaking from that magical formation was tinting the sky.

“AAAHH!”

Ordinary citizen NPCs strolling through the capital city began to scream and flee.

It was clearly an abnormal reaction. They were responding to that magical formation soaring high above.

[The power of Hell takes a step closer.]

The message that appeared when I acquired the Demon Sword resurfaced once again.

As if everyone could see it, the gazes of users nearby were sweeping across the empty air.

“Yeo, do you know what this is?”

I stammered in response to Helena’s question.

It seemed something was triggered because of this Demon Sword, but I wasn’t well-informed either.

“No, I don’t. It seems to be related to this weapon, though…”

As I pulled out the new weapon and waved it around, a black aura began to spread out in all directions.

The exaggerated effects typical of a world item enveloped the entire weapon.

“Could it be some kind of event?”

“Event?”

I nodded at Helena’s question.

Yes, this must be an event. An event that activates upon achieving specific conditions.

The message that the power of Hell was approaching popped up. In the air, an unidentified magical formation appeared, endlessly spilling out hell mana.

“This, this is an invasion event.”

Based on my long experience with games, I could vaguely guess the nature of that magical formation.

That was a sign marking the beginning of an invasion event.

Once the set time arrived, hell monsters would surely spill out from that magical formation.

“Invasion?”

“Yeah.”

[The power of Hell takes a step closer.]

In that moment, another message popped up, reinforcing my guess.

The magical formation appearing in the sky over the capital city gathered the attention of many users.

Even the raid party that had paused their raid to come back to the capital city to witness the phenomenon appeared.

As all the scattered users began to converge on the capital city, the NPCs started to show unusual behavior.

Ordinary citizens vacated their spots, and the patrolling NPCs began to gather in one place.

Elite knights, who were usually only encountered during special events, started to pour out from inside the fortress, and paladins and healer NPCs began to emerge from various temples.

No promised rewards existed. No way to know what would pop out.

But the users began to mix with NPCs and brandish their weapons.

Occasionally overheard conversations among the NPCs added to the certainty of an invasion event.

I too began to gather my guild members, standing in the expansive plaza mingled with the allied guild, waiting for the event.

How long had it been? The magical formation floating in the air began to shake violently and then seemed to split apart.

[The power of Hell begins to cross into reality.]

Crack!

As the magical formation tore through the air, hell mana began to spew out onto the ground, revealing demon clan monsters.

[EEEEK!]

It wasn’t just one or two. Dozens, hundreds began to pour out.

“The invasion of Hell has begun! Everyone, don’t back down!”

As the demons emerged, the NPCs began to react as well.

Paladins drew their swords and charged forward, with the elite knights following closely behind.

As the NPCs and demon monsters clashed, the users also pulled out their weapons and joined the fight against the demons.

Thus, chaos erupted.

“Suddenly, such a large-scale invasion event, what happened today?”

Iyap, standing next to me, asked, but I couldn’t bring myself to tell him that the event was triggered because of me.

While some users were fighting the demon clan monsters, there were also many leaving the capital city, saying they wouldn’t get any rewards.

But the majority of users were putting in their utmost effort to slay the heads of the demons, just like the NPCs trying to protect their world.

I too drew my sword, wanting to participate in the event.

Swoosh—

As I drew the Demon Sword, its unique flashy effects began to scatter.

It was at that moment. A translucent message window popped up in front of me.

[The lord of the hell legion, Kraksel, offers the owner of the Demon Sword to fight on their side.]

If the offer is accepted, you will fight as the commander of the invading forces until the invasion event ends.

Everything will return to normal once the invasion event concludes.

I quickly surveyed the reactions around me.

Everyone was so focused on preventing the invasion, they didn’t even pay me any mind.

It seemed this message was transmitted only to me.

Should I accept the offer?

In the brief moment of hesitation, Helena approached me and asked.

“What are you thinking about?”

“Well, I was briefly contemplating it.”

The weapon upgrade was already complete. The quest log was not updated with anything.

That meant this offer was highly likely to be just an event-related proposal.

It was an offer I could take or leave.

But I wanted to accept it.

To side with the monsters. A thing ordinarily impossible, an experience unattainable through regular play.

Joining forces with the monsters to fight the NPCs, I thought to myself—when else would I get to experience that?

Without hesitation, I pressed the accept button.

In that moment, the crack spewing demons widened, and hell mana began pouring onto the ground.

The Demon Sword I held began to react then.

Was it because of the hell mana I absorbed from Nerim? The sword started absorbing the pouring hell mana.

“Yeo…?”

“Oh, ohhh…!”

Perhaps because it was absorbing hell mana. The mana absorbed through the sword began flowing into my body, starting to change my character’s appearance.

My formerly short stature began to grow, and muscles started to develop on my frail limbs.

My pale skin began to turn dark, and I found myself growing to the point where I was now looking down at Helena.

The change didn’t stop there.

The sword I held began to grow larger to match my increased size.

Right after the absorption of hell mana subsided, I could see the changes in my body.

All traces of being human vanished completely, and my overall form resembled that of a Balrog from subculture.

A body covered in black fur, muscular limbs, sharp claws and talons, and a long tail sprouting out behind me with wings sprouting from my back.

I had fully become a demon.

[WAAAH!]

As I spread my arms and shouted loudly, black effects spread out in all directions.

The skill slots I had registered to check the cooldown time were now filled with skills used by monsters.

[The owner of the Demon Sword, Phronos, has made their appearance in Lunaris Capital City!]

Could it be? The monster transformation event I’d only thought would be possible!

Not an ordinary monster but a named boss.

I had only assumed I would be siding with the monsters to fight the NPCs with my own body, but it seemed that wasn’t the case.

[KUWAHHH!]

I swung my sword while letting out a demonic roar.

Phronos’s body possessed immense strength.

Green flames burst forth from the gigantic Demon Sword I held, wreaking havoc and destroying the buildings of the capital city.

In that moment, just as a named boss appeared on the side of the monsters, a powerful named NPC also revealed themselves on the side of the NPCs.

Accompanied by brilliant sunlight, a knight clad in splendid full plate mail appeared.

[Commander and Executioner, Crow]

Was it the blessing of the Sun God? Or perhaps a special skill he possessed?

The body of the Sunlight Knight appeared larger than that encountered in the raid dungeon.

Crow drew his sword, shining with sunlight, and began approaching me.

As the gigantic figure cloaked in sunlight approached with thunderous steps, the demons around me rushed forward to protect me.

However, they couldn’t stop Crow’s approach.

Every demon that approached was torn apart and obliterated by the sacred holy sword.

Seeing that, I could be sure of something. This was an event where the users defending the invasion would definitely win.

But I wouldn’t go down easily.

I moved my arms and legs, waiting to get accustomed to Phronos’s body.

The structure was so different from the body I had previously used that it felt awkward to move.

In that moment, Crow, who had been slowly approaching, suddenly bolted forward.

The charge was incredibly swift.

It was just as I raised my sword in response to the knight charging with sunlight.

[Shutdown Notification]

You can no longer play the game.

The connection to the server has been terminated.

[Ah…]

A familiar message window appeared before me.

The wicked law that snatched away my time had caught my ankles.

The swing of the knight’s holy sword rushing toward me never reached my body.

The same went for the Demon Sword I had swung.

As my angled gaze checked the time, it showed 10:00 PM.

The clock displayed the precise time without any error.

And just like that, the connection was terminated.

*

A sudden large-scale invasion event.

According to the participants, there were no special rewards.

Just fighting off the demon clan monsters that dropped from the sky, they said they received a long-lasting area-wide buff.

The event also was not particularly challenging, thanks to the NPCs fighting alongside the users.

Rumors began to spread that there was a special reward for those who killed the unique named monsters appearing in the demon clan faction, but that turned out to be false.

It was revealed through a single post that [The owner of the Demon Sword, Phronos] had not been slain by a user, but rather had suddenly vanished.

[Deron Online Gallery]

[Looks like the invasion event started because of that girl? LOL] [112]

(A gif capturing Yeo’s transformation into the owner of the Demon Sword, Phronos)

(A gif of Phronos swinging the sword and smashing the buildings)

(A gif of Phronos suddenly disappearing the moment he faces off against Crow)

My friend sent me this clip. That girl suddenly transformed into a demon and started smashing buildings like a crazy person.

I didn’t see it because I was busy fighting demons in front, but my friend who was just watching in the back recorded it.

[LOL she’s not a schoolgirl; she’s a demon! LOL]

[But why did she suddenly disappear?]

ㄴ[Wasn’t it during the shutdown? It was 10 o’clock when that event was happening.]

ㄴ[Is she a crazy girl? LOL Pretending to follow the theme and logging off in the middle of the event LOL]

ㄴ[It’s not a concept, she’s just an actual schoolgirl then.]

[LOL look at her having fun after transforming LOL!]

ㄴ[She started smashing nearby buildings without a second thought after transforming; totally psycho.]

ㄴ[If I turned into a demon too, I’d probably smash everything around me.]

[Whoa… that schoolgirl… has become a succubus… she has to smash everything…]

[So how did that transformation event happen? I want to transform too.]

ㄴ[Look at her equipment, it was upgraded from being a holy sword; it’s probably the upgrade quest.]

ㄴ[It was a holy sword before, and now it’s a Demon Sword? Look at the options, it’s ridiculously OP, I’m quitting the game.]

ㄴ[You should go farming too.]

ㄴ[Accessories drop like crazy.]

[Whoa LOL the gallery lord turned Lunaris Capital City upside down LOL]

ㄴ[The gallery lord smashed the potion shop, so until it’s restored, I can’t buy potions;;;]

[Why didn’t her clothes tear when she transformed???? It’s not realistic.]

ㄴ[You nerd…]

ㄴ[Is that demon a female?]

[Why is she the only lucky one? Isn’t she an admin account?]
