Your Commander-in-Chief – Chapter 262

This morning, a patch was unexpectedly rolled out.

Initially, the players of Deron were clueless but soon realized one crucial detail: this patch was targeting a specific build.

It all began with a PvP video posted on YouTube. The infamous Blood Demon King in the Korean server was shown taking down an enemy guild using a new build.

While it wasn’t unusual to see PvP videos featuring the Blood Demon King Yeo, it was the unusual build she was using that raised eyebrows.

Out of nowhere, she summoned ducks.

Using items that were released as toys instead of regular items for her PvP strategy.

Veteran players of Deron could immediately identify not just the effect of the skill but also what class it pertained to.

So, they began to think:

The True Blood Blood Magic + Duck Quack + Mage Scholar build would be a huge hit.

Not only in PvP, but also a new meta for Mages was about to emerge in PvE.

However, soon after the rumors started swirling, Deron released an announcement.

The first-ever “Piss Shield” build, known as the glass cannon build, was also hit with a targeted patch.

But most users seemed to shrug it off, thanks to videos showing that build obliterating raid bosses with outrageous damage.

Thus, in the initial patch, everyone accepted it without much fuss.

But now, the users’ reactions were different.

The director had previously stated that Deron looked forward to the countless builds created from various class combinations.

So, what was this current patch?

For the second time, a targeted patch had obliterated a recently developed build.

Since the patch occurred in the early morning, it took a while for players to catch on, but once the fire started, it spread rapidly.

[Seriously, this morning’s patch is just not it.] [65]

Why does Deron have so many classes?

Is it because of the new jobs and races added with every expansion?

The combinations of countless classes and races lead to unexpected builds.

The fun of offering players more choices to create their own builds.

Isn’t that right?

Even the chubby director has said the same.

He respects diverse builds.

But does this patch respect builds?

He just cut off the arms and legs that were the mechanics of a build because it wasn’t what he expected.

The recently discovered Piss Shield build is the same. It can’t even function now.

It’s dead.

If the damage is OP, then the patch should nerf the damage, not basically kill the build outright; is that reasonable?

Deron made a massive mistake.

Some players might be holding onto the game for the joy of crafting their own builds.

The process of designing and creating a build is pure romance.

No one knows what lies ahead and what might happen, which is why Deron’s system of many job combinations is well-received.

But right now, Deron said:

Don’t chase romance.

Follow the established path.

Who would want to create a new build now?

If they do, it’ll get nerfed. No, it’ll literally be killed off.

This certainly isn’t a post written out of pity for the Blood Demon King.

[Comments]

[Can someone summarize this in three lines?]

[Agreed.]

[I think this is correct. Deron messed up the direction of the patch.]

[What’s wrong with nerfing the OP skill? LOL]

[True LOL]

[Does this guy have brains or is it just for decoration?]

[For real, these guys have lost their touch.]

[Why let the Orc Ring be fine during Season 1 and flip out now?]

[For real, when they said the Orc Ring was OP, they infused execution patterns into boss fights instead of nerfing items. Wouldn’t that make more sense?]

[Must be feeling full…]

[True, that director has really gotten big since Season 1 LOL]

[What’s this about?]

[Just read the Duck Bomb thread, you’ll catch on quicker.]

[Thanks.]

[Didn’t this video go viral and clear out all Duck Summoning bracelets from the auction house? LOL They’re being sold off as discount items after the patch.]

[LOL, what a bunch of idiots ㅋㅋㅋㅋ so funny.]

[Ugh… the Blood Demon King is sad, so now I feel sad… ]

[For real… doing somersaults and crying.]

[?]

[Wow, the Blood Demon King’s ability to kill builds is impressive… the ones who used to ride on her main build are all locked out of raids for a month LOL]

[For real, I heard that the main build wasn’t even created by the Blood Demon King.]

[Then who made it?]

[I don’t know? I heard one of the guild members called Maljwalka created it.]

[For real, this deserves a truckload of complaints.]

[Just say you want to do a Duck build.]

[Honestly, I really want to. I want to use that cute duck too. Why can’t I?]

[I was logging on to raise a Wizard after seeing the video this morning and now I just feel deflated.]

[How did you take the screenshot?]

[When I logged in, ducks were just hanging out in the middle of the Capital City.]

[Cute LOL]

[Is she really a high schooler? Or is she actually an elementary schooler?]

[Quack LOL]

[Where did Jupiter go, who was visible at the beginning of the video?]

[Chirp chirp LOL, just went flying away.]

[Ha LOL show a little bit of your armpits.]

[What were the Blood Demon King and the chirping doing together? Was the chirping defending the Blood Demon King? What’s their relationship?]

[ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ So cute ㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜ A farming duo in Deron ㅜㅜㅠㅠ Cheol-min should do fine ㅠㅠㅠ pig stew ㅠ๋ㅠㅠ]

[Oh no LOL]

[Who’s fluffier, the Blood Demon King or the chirping?]

[She’s not a Blood Demon King right now, she’s a Mage (whose physical defense is low).]

The overseas community, aside from the Korean server, had similar reactions.

YouTubers who had been showcasing unique builds in Deron swiftly declared they were quitting the game due to this patch, fanning the flames even further.

Four hours passed since the patch ended.

7 AM.

Suddenly, the gold prices in the Korean server began to plummet.

There was a huge influx of gold all at once.

It wasn’t a gold duplication or anything; a major player who usually purchases gold suddenly started dumping it on trading sites.

At first, some players who bought gold thought prices were just low, but the rate at which gold was flooding in was beyond their imagination.

30% of the regular market price vanished in just one hour.

Naturally, those who had been selling gold for pocket money began to rage.

The community started to turn upside down again.

As gold prices fell in Korea, it was inevitable that prices on foreign trading sites would drop too.

Likewise, overseas users quickly became aware of this issue, adding fuel to the already raging fire.

At 9 AM, Korean time.

Six hours passed since the targeted patch was implemented.

Ultimately, a letter from the director appeared on Deron’s homepage.

[Director’s Letter]

Hello, adventurers.

I’m Jeong Cheol-min, the director of Deron.

I apologize.

You probably remember what I said during the early days of Deron.

I mentioned that Deron respects and anticipates the diverse builds created by players.

However, the current situation in Deron has failed to uphold that promise.

We hastily applied a patch that disappointed our adventurers.

Skills changed in this week’s patch will be rolled back to their previous versions.

Moreover, new patches will be applied without disrupting the mechanics of builds.

For more details, you can check the follow-up announcements.

As an apology to all adventurers who were disappointed by this incident, we have decided to give out 3 [Rank Reset] items to every player.

We will strive to return to our roots and create a better Deron.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Jeong Cheol-min.

The sudden arrival of the director’s letter.

Beginning with a greeting and an apology.

Quickly acknowledging their mistakes.

Plus, compensation given not only to those directly impacted but to all users.

Cheol-min’s swift actions quelled the fervent flames.

While not every player would be satisfied, he managed to offer a reasonable compromise.

And so, the incident was tentatively resolved.

The first class after school started.

I sat gloomy at my desk, doodling in my notebook.

The cute duck drawn on the pristine white paper was holding back tears.

My Duck Bombs that had been killed with the morning patch.

I had loved that build for its cute appearance and overwhelming performance, but now it was dead.

This sadness was beyond words.

“Hayun…”

Sohee, sitting next to me, tenderly ruffled my hair.

With my eyes closed, I felt Sohee’s touch, but it didn’t alleviate my discomfort.

Deron

Should I quit?

I felt betrayed by Deron, which had been my life.

Not just once, but twice.

And both times, they targeted the builds I was using.

My head felt heavy, as if I had been punched twice.

Then it happened.

My phone, which I had discreetly placed at the corner of my desk to avoid the teacher’s gaze, lit up.

What popped up on my phone was a notification for Deron’s announcement.

If you set it up through the dedicated app, you receive alerts for important announcements on Deron’s website.

“Gasp…”

I hurriedly moved my hand to check the announcement.

My eyes raced across the screen, and my fingers followed suit.

Just like Deron.

It wouldn’t betray me.

Reading the director’s letter made me feel a wave of relief.

Right.

People can make mistakes as they journey through life.

My Deron hadn’t changed.

“Hayun?”

“ hehe hehe…”

I’d be receiving 3 rank reset tokens.

Moreover, my Duck Bomb build was also said to be revived, causing all of my pent-up frustrations to simply vanish.

Deron is my life.

“Seo Hayun.”

“Gasp…”

Just as I was grinning while looking at my phone.

My phone slipped from my hand with a swift motion, and a voice interrupted.

Lifting my head slightly, I found the calm-looking female teacher looking down at me.

“I’ll let it slide this time since it’s your first offense. Using your phone during class is prohibited.”

“Ah, um… I’m sorry…”

As the teacher handed back my phone, all the other kids’ eyes turned toward me.

I felt their stares weighing down on me.

My ears were burning hot, but instead, I smiled.

I know how cute I am.

I am well aware of the power behind my smile.

It was just a mistake made by a cute girl.

I showed a smile that could never be called the smile of a bad student, so now I felt at ease.

“Hehe…”

Look at that.

Some of the kids who were gazing at me just turned red.

I felt the eyes of Sohee on me, too, sharp as a needle.
