Chapter 324: Hunters and Mantises.
Five arrows shattered and bounced off the Queen Mantis’s shell. The archer felt no disappointment at the result, merely rolled their body, stepping on the bowstring. Rising up again with a sliding step,
The bowstring was powerfully drawn by the archer’s mighty thighs as they slid, an arrow notched and released in one fluid motion, falling into their hand.
This was a martial arts technique to draw the bow faster.
With a release, a perfect arrow shot forth, its tip piercing into a scar left by a greatsword before snapping upon completion of its task.
Bright flashes of blades carved arcs in the air. Seeing the abdomen tail whip towards them, the katana warrior leaned back, narrowly avoiding it.
To maintain balance, they rotated their body, inadvertently spinning into another graceful dance, finding newfound harmony with their weapon.
The Queen Mantis sensed something amiss, smashing through a city wall that had dared to intrude, breaking free from the circle of four hunters just in time to stomp down on the greatsword wielder.
“Whaaat?!”
Facing the death scythe descending toward their head, the greatsword user twisted left and right, only to find their lower body ensnared by sticky silk threads.
As the third slash of death approached, Kempe arrived just in time, pulling the threads to save their comrade from certain doom. However, their own hands became stuck in the process.
By the time they cut themselves free, both were sent flying like kites cut loose from their strings.
Refusing the invitation to a moonlit dance, the queen leapt backward, distancing herself from the katana warrior with an angry hiss.
She swung her silk threads, tearing off a piece of debris, spinning her body to hurl it towards Kempe and the greatsword wielder.
“Clang!!!”
The greatsword blocked the metal impact with a deafening metallic clang, spitting out some blood before being launched away again.
But Kempe, held fast, shot forward like an arrow leaving the string.
Without looking back, charging forward relentlessly, the two knives in their hands sparked against each other, igniting a brilliant flame enveloping the blades.
Faced with the incoming scythe, adrenaline surged once more, disappearing from the mantis queen’s sight in a flash, their dual blades slicing like wheels towards her abdomen.
Their wrists tingled from the shock, but they saw a mark carved onto the abdomen armor.
A flutter, and silk threads wrapped around them, reeling them back like a kite until the debris returned, slamming them hard.
Kempe flipped over, facing upward, climbing upwards with their twin blades targeting the queen’s underbelly.
“Hmph!”
Corrosive aromas assaulted Kempe’s body and nerves, only to be greeted by the bright sky in the blink of an eye.
Standing up and turning around, they saw the queen accepting the katana warrior’s invitation to a deadly dance.
Meanwhile, the female archer kicked up dirt and sand with every arrow fired, each one shattering harmlessly on the ground.
But where was the other queen?
Kempe prepared to leap up, focusing on the core of the ruined city, seeking any sign of the male mantis.
The battle between the hunters and the mantis queen had been intense, yet less than two minutes had passed since the start.
At this moment, Jié Jié sat watching in the cockpit.
That’s right, just watching, like enjoying a martial arts drama.
“Hmm, too greedy and got thrown! Katana warrior is trash, look at the archer, so disciplined, hasn’t been hit yet.”
Jié Jié was just a Gundam pilot who barely escaped rape, with absolutely zero combat ability, how could they get involved?
“~~”
The mantis queen began emitting pheromones, seemingly calling for help.
Jié Jié remained seated in the cockpit, unmoving, merely observing.
The greatsword user charged in recklessly, often getting thrown away along with their weapon.
The female archer kept firing arrows, though unfortunately without much effect, each arrow depleting their limited supply.
Though criticizing the katana warrior, each swing was solid, restraining the mantis queen rather than dealing damage.
And the dual blade warrior—
Kempe stepped on the dragged greatsword, leaping high into the air, their twin blades reversed in front of them, hammering down onto the mantis queen.
They embedded themselves deep, clinging tightly to the mantis queen’s back, shaking violently as their body endured continuous impacts, feeling as if their internal organs would shift places.
Even so, those twin blades continued to be pulled out and driven back in, expanding the gap in the mantis queen’s tail armor.
Until exhaustion set in, the enlarged gap unable to hold the blades anymore, they were flung off.
The mantis queen turned around, jumping straight towards them without hesitation, stomping them into the ground, a mouthful of old blood spurting out.
How many ribs were broken?
Compared to the mantis arm scythe coming down from the sky to claim their life, broken ribs didn’t matter!
The joint holding them down had moved, but the chest pain prevented rolling away, forcing them to push against the curved blades with their hands. The blades slammed down, cutting their nose, but temporarily held death at bay.
Where are the others?!
Struggling to turn over, they silently called out to their reliable teammates.
“Bam!”
The mantis queen retreated, a greatsword landing near their ear, the force of it tearing the ground sending them into a daze, regretting their decision.
In a haze, they saw Hubble, bruised and battered but smiling foolishly.
Then, the greatsword user flew down again, the scene shifting back to the mantis queen’s underbelly.
The sudden change jolted Kempe awake instantly.
Thankfully, this time they weren’t stomped on.
Pulling their arms from the ground, they flipped out from under the mantis queen, popping a square wrapped in oil paper into their mouth.
The pain in their torso subsided, vitality flooding back into their body.
Keeping distance from the mantis queen, they gripped their remaining curved blade and smashed it into the queen’s forelimb, causing her to stagger slightly.
Two arcs of light erupted, hugging the mantis queen tightly, leaving deep scars.
A wakizashi spun towards Kempe, caught deftly. Exchanging glances with the chief hunter and the katana warrior, they pressed forward once more.
But the mantis queen chose not to engage further, retreating rapidly, debris flying towards them as if by magic, sapping their strength.
“It’s approaching the ruin city!”
Realizing the mantis queen was nearing the queen’s ruin city, the female archer shouted, dragging the greatsword user up, pounding their back, pouring energy drinks down their throat to restore spirit, drinking some herself to replenish stamina.
Yes, the mantis queen intended to retreat into her queen’s ruin city, crushing these troublesome insects directly.
“Clang! Clang!”
As the mantis queen landed in the golden cocoon at the core of the ruin city, the queen’s ruin city awakened, mechanical structures colliding with sparks.
Jié Jié’s eyes lit up, pulling the silk threads connected to the joints of the ruin city’s limbs, maneuvering their ruin city towards the queen’s ruin city.
Both ruin cities, simultaneously revived.

When you see a mighty male fire dragon soaring through the sky, you can't confidently say it’s truly a fire dragon—because it might have been a rare silver fire dragon before you noticed it.
If you suspect it was a silver fire dragon, it could have been a spinosaurus even earlier.
When someone tells you it was once a spinosaurus, you still can’t be sure—because before others saw it, it might have been an elder extinction dragon.
You may feel certain it’s a flying dragon by now, yet you can't assert that either—because underground where you can't see, it might actually be an ancient mountain dragon.
So, what is it really?
In the beginning,
It was just a hairy spider.
