Chapter 266: The Chromatic Ball.
Another signal flare shot into the sky, and the sand ships, having readied their Restraining Crossbows, resumed firing, attempting to limit the Spirit Mountain Dragon’s movements. As the Restraining Crossbow ropes tightened, they dragged the ships closer to the Spirit Mountain Dragon.
When the distance was right, the hunters on the sand ships began to land on the body of the Spirit Mountain Dragon.
The battle with the Spirit Mountain Dragon was fast-paced, and any jumps could easily go awry. If captured by the gravitational pull generated by the Spirit Mountain Dragon’s movements, one would fall to its side and be crushed, a fate almost certain death.
Even if landed upon by hunters, the Spirit Mountain Dragon wouldn’t halt its Dragon Charge. Hunters on its back often got flung off due to the turbulence.
Thus, the hunters tied ropes around their waists, ready to entangle them quickly in case of accidents, also facilitating their retreat from the Spirit Mountain Dragon’s body.
Hunters who successfully landed on the Spirit Mountain Dragon’s spine quickly found good positions. At this stage, they prioritized obtaining minerals from the Spirit Mountain Dragon’s body.
The sound of picks striking echoed through the wind and sand as chunks of ore fell into packs.
Even though the Loke Clark Guild organizing the activity would take the lion’s share, what remained was still enough for them to indulge for a very long time.
Full packs departed, and new hunters with empty packs landed on the Spirit Mountain Dragon.
The Spirit Mountain Dragon was already heavily injured, and at this stage, the hunters focused more on gathering resources than causing destruction, resulting in fewer severe movements, greatly reducing casualties among the hunters and damage to the sand ships.
A new support fleet arrived from behind, eager to replace the fully loaded sand ships and begin a new round of plundering.
However, as the fleet grew larger, it was inevitable that the Spirit Mountain Dragon would start showing signs of unusual emotions.
When the Spirit Mountain Dragon’s resistance intensified, it was time for the hunters to evacuate.
“The cannons have roared for so long, and the hunters have even climbed onto his body to gather resources, but the Spirit Mountain Dragon doesn’t seem to care.”
“Suddenly, I feel like the hunters are ants, climbing onto the giant’s hand to nibble on hair he doesn’t notice.”
“I can hardly imagine how powerful the monster must be that left him scarred and fleeing underground.”
The Compiler recorded the outline of the Spirit Mountain Dragon, adding rows of small notes beside it.
“The Spirit Mountain Dragon is tilting its side, preparing for an impact!”
The shouts of the hunters brought him back to reality, and in the blink of an eye, the Fortress Guard, these guild knights, shielded him from behind.
Jié Jié saw the Spirit Mountain Dragon’s body slightly tilt, using this to quickly approach the Fēng Shān Márón and hit it with the fins on its back.
Will it hold?
He began ascending higher into the sky, hiding his transformation within the clouds and night, waiting for the right moment.
In the eyes of the hunters, the massive Spirit Mountain Dragon loomed over them like a mountain, the dazzling crystals on its spine magnifying in everyone’s sight aboard the Fēng Shān Márón.
The veins of ore moved like snakes, and shards of crystal scattered under pressure, beautiful yet deadly.
There was less than five seconds to react, and the pressure preceded the Spirit Mountain Dragon, landing on everyone’s shoulders.
Unable to counterattack, prepare to endure the impact!
“Boom!”
The mineral-laden dorsal fin collided unstoppable with the Fēng Shān Márón, the ship’s sides suffering compression.
The defensive formation of the Fortress Guard dissolved and reformed, every plank of wood on the Fēng Shān Márón trembling as if in fear, creaking loudly.
The side planks bent, and the outer ballistae and equipment were severely damaged; the course and direction were deflected by the impact, moving away from the recovering Spirit Mountain Dragon.
Fortunately, the Fēng Shān Márón could still sail; she had endured such injuries more than once.
But two guild knights were thrown off by the turbulent impact and were now dragging themselves across the sand, only returning to the ship with help from their comrades pulling the ropes.
The Fēng Shān Márón quickly restored its course and chased after the Spirit Mountain Dragon again.
After gathering the minerals, it was time to collect materials.
Sightings of the Spirit Mountain Dragon were rare, and now with a heavily damaged one right before them, how could they let it go?
The Chief Hunter took the lead, landing on the Spirit Mountain Dragon’s body and drawing out a new weapon.
Known as the Sever Axe, or simply Slash Axe, the weapon swung wildly in the hunter’s hands, delivering heavy blows that crushed the sandstone encasing the Spirit Mountain Dragon’s shell, making the shell beneath tremble.
With a clang, the axe descended in rotation, the sword blade folded onto the axe back swung up, cutting along the cracks created by the axe and piercing into them.
The Slash Axe was a popular emerging weapon among the Loke Clark hunters, highly effective against the Peak Mountain Dragon.
Aside from powerful strikes, it could transform into a sword form to pierce the Spirit Mountain Dragon’s shell and cause internal damage. When the blade was embedded, there was no need to worry about turbulence during the Spirit Mountain Dragon’s high-speed movements.
The structure known as the Element Bottle within the Slash Axe could store energy, and at this moment, the energy was being channeled into the blade, exploding inside the shell where the blade had pierced.
Cracks appeared on the Spirit Mountain Dragon’s shell, and the rising axehead slammed down like a hammer on the edge of the shell, working together with the blade to pry off a thick piece of shell half the size of a man.
Apart from the earthy yellow color, the surface and upper edges of the shell shimmered with crystalline hues.
For the Spirit Mountain Dragon, this piece of shell was quite insignificant, but for humans, it was excellent material for crafting equipment.
But suddenly, the red light of the signal flare exploded in the air, almost illuminating the barely dawning night sky.
And the black creature covered in spines was exposed in the air.
“Damn it, what’s going on? This is completely different from the white monster in the intelligence report.”
“Report! It’s flying too high, beyond the range of our Restraining Crossbows!”
Faced with the monster flying in the air, the ballistae operators naturally thought of bringing it down first.
Soon, however, they saw the spiny creature pounce onto the back of the Spirit Mountain Dragon, wreaking havoc.
“What should we do?”
“Haha, we’ve always been the ones taking the fruits of the monsters’ territorial disputes, and now a monster wants to take our fruit.”
The commander of the Fēng Shān Márón laughed bitterly.
“Cough, actually, this time it seems like we’re also taking someone else’s fruit.”
His adjutant coughed lightly; the great damage to this Spirit Mountain Dragon was caused by an unknown Ancient Dragon.
The commander glared at his adjutant, ignoring his words and beginning to issue orders.
“Continue attacking the Spirit Mountain Dragon, drive that thing away, and reserve some Restraining Bolts for it.”
“Also, you, pay attention, give that thing a strong Chromatic Ball. It was originally prepared for another unknown Ancient Dragon, but using it on this one will work just as well.”
A ballista operator nodded, and the potent Chromatic Ball was loaded onto the ballista, aiming at the unknown Ancient Dragon.

Monster Life Starting from Collecting Materials
Status: Ongoing
When you see a mighty male fire dragon soaring through the sky, you can't confidently say it’s truly a fire dragon—because it might have been a rare silver fire dragon before you noticed it.
If you suspect it was a silver fire dragon, it could have been a spinosaurus even earlier.
When someone tells you it was once a spinosaurus, you still can’t be sure—because before others saw it, it might have been an elder extinction dragon.
You may feel certain it’s a flying dragon by now, yet you can't assert that either—because underground where you can't see, it might actually be an ancient mountain dragon.
So, what is it really?
In the beginning,
It was just a hairy spider.
