Chapter 241: The Qilin Glared Sternly.
Back when Ji Jie had left the young Sui Long in the care of the Qilin, he had anticipated that it wouldn’t receive the expected Spartan education. Without the harsh discipline of its kin, would the Sui Long’s shell still develop into the obsidian armor? And could the slime mold successfully cultivate?
Before their eyes, the original slime mold had transformed into a mycelium covering the shell. The Sui Long, initially the size of a Spiny Dragon, now stretched to thirteen meters long, much larger than the Qilin.
Underneath the mycelium, the shell was filled with tissue fluid and scabs, and due to its mineral-rich diet, mineral deposits were evident.
It was still developing. Right now, it was using its fists to smash a small mine to bits, breaking off the ore for consumption.
The remains of some small organisms could be seen around.
The adolescent Sui Long turned around, first looking at the large Spiny Dragon. It began retreating while on guard.
Unlike most Large Monsters that rise up when encountering enemies, this one tried to shrink itself and hide behind the rocky peak.
Without the usual ferocity of a Sui Long, it liked to… change zones, which was a good thing.
Was it because of the shadows from hiding in caves? Or had it been influenced by the Qilin?
The Qilin lifted its hooves, intending to step out from behind the rock, but noticed the monster beside it also retreating.
After exchanging a glance, Ji Jie indicated he’d be right back.
Once the Spiny Dragon left, the air remained silent.
The Sui Long restrained its breathing and movements, while the Qilin hesitated near the corner of the rock.
Still, it took that step forward. The sound of thunder accompanied the hooves as they landed. Hearing the familiar sound, the Sui Long emerged from behind the stone.
“Hmph!”
It raised its fists, challenging the Qilin. Its earlier timid behavior seemed non-existent, instead adopting an attitude of bullying the weak.
The Qilin’s gaze showed helplessness as it stared at the now larger Sui Long.
The Sui Long approached the Qilin with defiant steps, provocatively swinging its fists.
But it didn’t attack—just looked like it wanted to be hit, resembling a kangaroo.
The Qilin’s brow furrowed, glaring at the constantly swaying Sui Long.
In the sky, Ji Jie returned, holding a Thunder Jaw Dragon under his claws. He was shocked to see the Sui Long provocatively challenging the Qilin, shattering the image of a well-behaved Sui Long helping an old Qilin cross the road, turning instead into a scene of juvenile delinquency.
Could the Qilin have corrupted its pupil? Ji Jie was utterly confused.
He chose to loosen his grip, throwing down the fresh corpse of the Thunder Jaw Dragon.
The corpse shattered the rocky peak upon landing heavily. The Sui Long immediately stopped its antics, jumping away to look at the airborne Spiny Dragon.
This time, it didn’t hide but stood alongside the Qilin in a defensive stance, showing protective tendencies towards the Qilin.
Not entirely corrupted then.
Ji Jie descended from the air, stepping onto the corpse of the Thunder Jaw Dragon. A fiery glow surrounded him as he reappeared before the Sui Long in his Flame King Dragon form. His claws flexed slightly, pushing the beast corpse forward.
Though it was intended for the young Sui Long, the previous aggressive glare made his expression somewhat peculiar.
The Sui Long growled in alertness, perhaps still remembering past events but unable to recall them immediately.
However, seeing its teacher, the Qilin, stepping forward calmly and aligning with the Flame King Dragon, the latter’s dignified face appeared peaceful.
With the control of wind pressure, some air currents stirred the Flame King Dragon’s mane, enhancing his majesty.
The Sui Long’s head drooped along with its fists as memories became clearer. It relaxed its vigilance slightly, responding to Ji Jie’s invitation to eat together.
The Thunder Jaw Dragon provided high-quality meat, highly tempting for the still-developing Sui Long.
Yet, the Sui Long’s teeth were poor, and the Thunder Jaw Dragon’s muscles and scales were quite tough. It could only use the explosive mycelium on its fists to blast open the Thunder Jaw Dragon’s scales, softening the meat for consumption.
As the two carnivorous dragons ate, the Qilin appropriately distanced himself.
Some mycelium accidentally exploded near Ji Jie during the meal. Looking at the struggling Sui Long, he lifted his head.
A bit of dust lay on the dragon carcass, exploding with the grinding sound that made the Sui Long uneasy.
He precisely controlled the explosion, not betraying the Sui Long’s mycelium, but still startling it, causing it to jump back and stare warily at the Flame King Dragon.
“Roar.”
Ji Jie growled lowly, inviting it back to eat.
The Sui Long complied, eating faster once the meat was softened, devouring greedily.
Ji Jie simply gave the entire Thunder Jaw Dragon to it and turned to look at the Qilin, guessing that he wouldn’t prepare food for the young Sui Long, who might have to hunt alone.
Thoughts converged; there was a memory of the Qilin leading the young Sui Long to evade large predators. He asked about the existence of four fire dragons flying together.
The answer came through resonance, showing a blurred vision of fire dragons soaring in the sky. Back then, the young Sui Long was only twice the size of a Spiny Dragon, still smaller compared to now.
It had been quite a while ago.
So, are there any other beings capable of forming resonance?
The Qilin didn’t answer this question.
Ji Jie detached from the resonance information, carefully approaching the Sui Long and lifting his claw.
In the past, he could stroke its head, but now he could only reach its lower back.
Recalling its earlier provocation against the Qilin, along with the trail of punches and shattered mines, even without the cruel education from its kin, the Sui Long hadn’t become complacent.
The Sui Long finished eating, clearly satisfied. Its gaze wandered between the Qilin and the Flame King Dragon before circling around the rocky peak and returning to the mine.
Sounds of impact, explosions, and the crushing of ore echoed, interspersed with the Sui Long’s cries of pain from self-inflicted explosions.
Ji Jie and the Qilin exchanged glances silently. Before the other left, he asked an important question—
How did the Qilin cross the sea?
The Qilin walked on the sea surface as if it were flat land, stopping occasionally at reefs and isolated islands to rest, then continued all the way across.
The Qilin was curious why he cared.
Ji Jie just flapped his wings, implying everything without words.
The Qilin snorted unhappily, a bolt of lightning connecting heaven and earth, disappearing instantly.
“Tsk, such arrogance in fleeing!”
Ji Jie muttered enviously. Though the Qilin lineage might have fallen to Ancient Dragon’s shame due to certain reasons, this instant teleportation ability was truly formidable.
Always finding the best spots to watch drama and ensuring a quick escape afterward.
With the Qilin gone, Ji Jie listened to the sounds of the mine being crushed and began studying the abilities of the Abyssal Wave Dragon.

When you see a mighty male fire dragon soaring through the sky, you can't confidently say it’s truly a fire dragon—because it might have been a rare silver fire dragon before you noticed it.
If you suspect it was a silver fire dragon, it could have been a spinosaurus even earlier.
When someone tells you it was once a spinosaurus, you still can’t be sure—because before others saw it, it might have been an elder extinction dragon.
You may feel certain it’s a flying dragon by now, yet you can't assert that either—because underground where you can't see, it might actually be an ancient mountain dragon.
So, what is it really?
In the beginning,
It was just a hairy spider.
