Chapter 180: The Fall.
The heavy cannonballs exploded one after another on the body of the Lord of the Tree Sea, with flames even covering the main body of the Spiny Dragon.
But when the flames dissipated and revealed the Spiny Dragon’s shell beneath, the previously infallible spread bullets proved less effective than expected.
The ashes of gunpowder and shattered shrapnel merely clung to the outermost layer of the shell. Blood-softening tactics couldn’t affect the thickness of such heavy armor.
“Got any sleep bombs? Fire them!”
What to do when a monster gets angry?
Just knock it out, and it won’t be angry anymore. Sleep bombs should be very effective against Spiny Dragons.
Responding to the other hunters’ reminders, the gunner quickly loaded his weapon and began shooting sleep bombs.
However, just as the sleep bombs were about to touch the Spiny Dragon, they were deflected by the chaotic air currents surrounding it.
“CursingIt’s like Steel Dragon’s Wind Wrap Armor; light projectiles will be directly deflected!”
The gunner slammed his fist into his own leg, his expression grim.
We need to get rid of that Wind Wrap Armor!
No one needed him to say it; everyone else understood this already.
It wasn’t the Steel Dragon commanding the storm—it was the highly toxic Spiny Dragon itself. Trying to outdo it in poison?
The hunters momentarily looked as pale as if they had been poisoned.
Countering wind pressure with poison attributes—a strategy from the old continent that doesn’t work at all here on the New Continent!
“The dragon roars.”
Turning toward the direction the ammunition came from, Jié Jié saw the hunters arriving at the battlefield.
The proportion of hunters in the investigation team didn’t exceed half, and many of those who weren’t hunters had more successful identities elsewhere, making them unable to participate.
Only a few hunters truly joined in to fight alongside him.
Jié Jié took a deep breath.
“Scatter!”
As the Team Leader predicted, a fireball roared forth towards the group of hunters standing too close together.
“Bang!”
The heavy crossbow thundered, its heavy ammunition colliding mid-air with the fireball, both exploding and preventing the initial slaughter.
The hunters also managed to scatter in time, simultaneously choosing to close the distance with the Spiny Dragon.
“I’m coming!”
The heavily armored hunter, wielding a long spear, shook the metal plates on his armor while shouting loudly, letting out a resounding battle roar.
These plates were specially coated so they not only made noise during movement to irritate the monster but also reflected light, blinding it.
Compared to the future provocation gear, this suit was welded onto him, only failing once the plates were damaged after multiple hits.
This noisy, flashy warrior became the brightest star under the night sky, indeed capturing Jié Jié’s attention.
This voice… Is it that sticky double-knife hunter in disguise as a heavy spear wielder?
Jié Jié understood the meaning of “I” and “come,” responding with a roar:
“Hangaaaarrrgh!!!”
An even louder roar followed, accompanied by an even larger fireball custom-made for maximum impact resistance!
The heavily armored hunter raised his shield upon hearing the roar, ducking his head and lowering his body, switching to shoulder support for the shield.
Even so, a long repulsion trail appeared on the ground.
Breathing heavily, he raised his head to see the Spiny Dragon’s neck slightly bowed and immediately retracted his head.
The large shield covered with monster scales had a shock-absorbing layer in the middle, and despite the heavy armor padding underneath, he could still feel his strength waning.
The Spiny Dragon’s breath attack finally ceased, the fairy-like protective glow dispersing. The monster scales on the shield were shattered, and the underlying chromium steel was slightly warm.
With his strength depleted, the heavily armored hunter noticed his comrades approaching, realizing his mission was complete, and fell to the ground in relief, being dragged away by an Ailu Cat acting as rescue.
“That guy fell?”
The female hunter using the Katana caught sight of this with her peripheral vision, genuinely surprised.
She regained consciousness amidst the stomping of the Flying Dragon, retreating with an Observation Slash. Attempting a counterattack, she was interrupted by vibrations from the ground.
A powerful tail sweep sent her flying, her landing shaky, and a stream of poisonous blood flowed from her uncontrollably open mouth.
Her body felt increasingly heavy, just like her jaw which wouldn’t close. Before her stamina ran out, she drank an antidote, feeling somewhat better.
Taking slow, heavy steps, she replaced her flung companion, maintaining control over the Spiny Dragon without being shaken by the vibrating ground again.
Air blades powered by sheer force broke through the wind pressure. The serrated blade of her Katana left marks on the shell.
But these mere scratches caused enough counter-vibration to make her arms tremble, leaving her without the strength for another move.
The ground continued to shake. Jié Jié kept pounding the ground with his claws, his dual-wing and dual-foot structure limiting his attack methods, yet pure power overcoming this disadvantage.
His upper body, rising and falling amidst stomps, suddenly lunged forward with full-body force, catching the bowman beneath him off guard, sending him soaring high.
Perhaps because his weapon wasn’t suitable for blocking wide-range attacks, the bowman couldn’t get back up after being thrown.
The archer hero is like this—
On the bright side, he wasn’t impaled on its horns, and he did what he could.
Most arrows deflected under the Wind Wrap Armor, bouncing off the wing membranes, though a few successfully struck.
Realizing his arrows couldn’t significantly harm the wings, he played close-range target practice beneath it, aiming specifically for wounds created by his companions.
The bottles attached to his bow seemed to contain sleeping powder, but it didn’t yield significant results.
The unfinished sleeping powder met no end.
A head of flying golden hair entered Jié Jié’s field of vision, catching the linked twin swords thrown by the Ailu Cat, then grabbing the sleep bottle from the fallen bowman to use as blade coating, charging straight at him.
Seeing the return of the Blond Man to the battlefield, the Spiny Dragon let out a loud roar.
Flapping its wings, it slapped the clinging hunter away.
Jié Jié threw them aside, sprinting toward the Team Leader with a Dragon Charge.
But among the elite hunters, a legendary Master Swordsman wasn’t blown away by the wind pressure. Swinging a great hammer over his head, he jumped and smashed it onto Jié Jié’s knee.
The collision of leg-driven momentum with the heavy hammer sent the Master Swordsman flying.
This caused the Dragon Charge to slip, tilting his body and losing some power as he collided with the Team Leader.
Sturdy arms thrust the twin swords forward, driving the blades into the Spiny Dragon’s eyelid with the charge’s force.
The Team Leader’s arms trembled, and the thick soles of his boots evenly smeared across the ground as he retreated.
The Commander observing the battlefield through binoculars winced again.
A pair of premium, wear-resistant shoes was far more valuable than expendable ammunition and arrows!
And the exhausted hunters lying down—though there were no casualties or severe injuries among the elite hunters, this battle would definitely require a lot of time and resources for recovery afterward.
The twin swords remained embedded, the sleeping powder from the bottle reaching the neural center within the head, completing its mission.
The Team Leader lifted his head, gazing into the golden pupils of the Spiny Dragon before him, feeling somewhat dazed.
Besides anger and rising drowsiness, he actually saw admiration and astonishment in them.

When you see a mighty male fire dragon soaring through the sky, you can't confidently say it’s truly a fire dragon—because it might have been a rare silver fire dragon before you noticed it.
If you suspect it was a silver fire dragon, it could have been a spinosaurus even earlier.
When someone tells you it was once a spinosaurus, you still can’t be sure—because before others saw it, it might have been an elder extinction dragon.
You may feel certain it’s a flying dragon by now, yet you can't assert that either—because underground where you can't see, it might actually be an ancient mountain dragon.
So, what is it really?
In the beginning,
It was just a hairy spider.
