Chapter 139

Chapter 139: Is This Fatal?

Shadows of annihilation sprinkled tear-shaped scales as the Burst Scale Dragon’s head smashed down with immense force.

The water-like droplets exploded into sparks, and under the overwhelming pressure, the Master of the Corpse Membrane bowed their head, thoughts of retreat creeping in.

Active miasma still lingering within surged out, pushing against the Burst Scale Dragon’s body with considerable impact, allowing them to disengage from Jié Jié and swiftly retreat.

“Keh-AHHH!”

A shrill roar filled with both fury and panic pierced through Jié Jié’s ears. The little face of the Burst Scale Dragon twisted into a villainous grin of malevolent joy.

“BOOM!”

Turning to flee, the Corpse Suit Dragon crashed into the storm wall, gouging a crack into the rock wall behind it.

Chaotic air currents and faint miasma disrupted the Corpse Suit Dragon’s senses, trapping it in a corner.

“No escape now, is there? Who will save you?”

With a sinister laugh befitting a villain, Jié Jié pressed relentlessly, feeling a storm of emotions swirling in his mind.

As the ground beneath him shattered, he lunged at the Corpse Suit Dragon, pinning its rising form back onto the rock wall with a flying pounce.

Freshly secreted explosive liquid hadn’t yet hardened into burst scales but smeared over the Corpse Suit Dragon’s body, exploding upon contact with zero-distance breath weapon.

Silver shards of broken scales fell into Jié Jié’s mouth as the Totem progress of the Corpse Suit Dragon quivered slightly.

Compared to this minuscule progress, what was more significant was that the barrier of zero had been broken. The difference between zero and one surpasses that between one and a hundred; simple addition trumps exponential growth any day.

Indeed, forcing an Ancient Dragon into a corner until they blush in embarrassment always works best.

Unfortunately, the Burst Scale Dragon was a blunt-force type fighter. Whether smashing or blasting, it inflicted more blunt trauma than actual damage to the Corpse Suit Dragon.

And within the Corpse Suit Dragon lay a reservoir of accumulated life energy, likely enabling rapid recovery from internal injuries.

Retreating, Jié Jié scattered the last of the Burst Scales, his bloated body rapidly shrinking into the sleek form of the Grim Claw Dragon.

Unfolding razor-sharp claws, he let out a short roar before charging at the bewildered Corpse Suit Dragon.

Sharp talons slashed across battered scales, sending them flying into Jié Jié’s waiting mouth.

Without its hard outer corpse suit, the thin layer of scales offered little defense against the Grim Claw Dragon’s piercing attack.

In swift succession, the Corpse Suit Dragon’s scales shattered and flesh tore open.

After a round of attacks, Jié Jié cautiously retreated, dodging the Corpse Suit Dragon’s strikes. He licked the bloodied flesh off his claws, strands of saliva stretching before being torn apart by the wind.

The Corpse Suit Dragon lowered its long limbs and charged forward like a horse, aiming directly for Jié Jié.

Agile as ever, the Grim Claw Dragon leapt onto the rock wall, gracefully evading the dragon charge while spinning around to successfully land on the Corpse Suit Dragon’s back.

His long jaws clamped onto the fateful nape, tearing and stabilizing himself while his sharp claws hacked away, flaying scales and plunging into flesh.

The Corpse Suit Dragon writhed violently, all four limbs thrashing wildly as it ran about. Miasma rose from its back, attempting to sap Jié Jié’s strength and knock him off.

But if he could withstand the earlier miasma, would this tiny bit matter?

Jié Jié ceased slashing with his claws, instead embedding them deep into the flesh to secure his position. His focus shifted entirely to the bite on the neck, his sharp fangs inching closer to the front of the Corpse Suit Dragon’s throat.

Sensing impending doom, the Lord of Dead Corpses struggled even harder, shaking its body frantically mid-run, revealing unexpected speed despite its sluggish appearance.

Jié Jié crouched on the Corpse Suit Dragon’s back, feeling like a rodeo cowboy or someone driving an unruly dragon car.

But no matter, the steering wheel was already in his mouth—it was time to end this!

With determination as sharp as his teeth, he bit through the Corpse Suit Dragon’s throat, tearing it wide open.

At the moment the throat was ripped apart, the Master of the Corpse Membrane’s struggle reached its peak. Instead of blood, miasma gushed forth, rushing into Jié Jié’s throat.

In that fleeting moment of relaxation, he was finally thrown off the Corpse Suit Dragon’s back, lying on the ground watching its frenzied final moments.

Surely losing one Corpse Suit Dragon among many in the Valley of Miasma wouldn’t be much of a problem, right?

Lost in thought, Jié Jié was suddenly rammed by the Corpse Suit Dragon’s dragon charge.

He saw the Corpse Suit Dragon cease struggling, not in the peace of death, but returning to its normal fighting stance.

“Huh?”

Jié Jié opened his mouth in confusion.

Watching the miasma spew from the Corpse Suit Dragon’s throat, he suddenly realized a crucial point.

For a monster with gill-like organs capable of breathing miasma and completing internal-external cycles, what purpose did the throat serve?

Breathing, such an essential function, could be handled by microorganisms entering and leaving the body. Thus, the throat must be secondary.

Therefore, the throat wasn’t the Corpse Suit Dragon’s fatal point! He should have bitten the spine at the base of the neck!

Suddenly, it felt like an old butcher mistakenly slaughtered the wrong pig, or like driving a car only to be told it was remote-controlled and the steering wheel was just for show.

The Corpse Suit Dragon’s earlier apparent death throes were likely due to surprise, realizing after prolonged struggle that it wasn’t actually dying.

The storm expanded, gradually becoming sparse as the miasma content in the air increased once again due to the Corpse Suit Dragon’s influence.

Feeling helpless, Jié Jié lunged at the Corpse Suit Dragon again, seeking another chance to climb onto its back while focusing on destroying materials.

The Grim Claw Dragon, with its menacing split claws, charged once more, slashing scales and flesh in the ensuing skirmish.

Having returned from the brink of death, the Corpse Suit Dragon attacked with far greater ferocity than before. Amidst the ebb and flow of miasma, Jié Jié couldn’t manage to bite its spine again, settling for tearing off half its broken wing as consolation.

“Kehhh~”

In the Corpse Suit Dragon’s long howl, the miasma responded to its call, rewrapping around its body from the previously chaotic storm.

Under the almost tangible miasma, its battered form was obscured.

Jié Jié retreated, eyes fixed on the misty veil of miasma, ready to flee at any moment.

However, the Corpse Suit Dragon didn’t press its advantage. Seizing the opportunity, Jié Jié transformed into a Fire Dragon, flapping his wings and taking to the skies.

But free from the myopic vision of the Grim Claw Dragon, he clearly saw that the Corpse Suit Dragon’s figure had vanished behind the hazy miasma.

Looking around, he confirmed that the Corpse Suit Dragon had fled before him.

Myopia has failed me!

But soon enough, he wouldn’t need to rely on myopic vision anymore.

Jié Jié glanced at the nearby Sulfur Slaying Dragon corpse.
