Chapter 40: What is a Fanged Beast Species
The two baby dragons had no idea they’d been eating Fire Dragon meat all along, but they still recognized the corpse being dragged by the Savage Jaw Dragon.
Their instincts screamed danger and trembled with fear, yet their self-preservation from infancy kicked in, preventing them from freezing in place.
With all their might, the two baby dragons unleashed their loudest roars to call out to their kin. Simultaneously, they fled in panic, choosing any direction available.
However, due to being tied together by vines, they only managed a few steps before tripping over each other and tumbling forward on the ground.
“Huff!”
Jié Jié exhaled deeply, tossing the Fire Dragon’s body towards the lakeside.
His form gradually shrank into that of a Sky Dog Beast, yet he retained the scent of the Savage Jaw Dragon as he approached the two dragons, carefully untying the vines around them.
The little dragons’ paws, as if recovering from a high latency, regained movement after being freed, and they bolted away. But halfway through their escape, they turned back, hesitated for a moment, then silently returned.

Neither seemed particularly bright.
The two baby Fire Dragons cautiously approached Jie Jie, sniffing at the complex scents.
At least they could recognize some things; they weren’t entirely hopeless.
He patted the heads of the two dragons with familiar motions before going to free the dragon eggs from the bag, avoiding any improper squeezing that might hinder their hatching.
One by one, he arranged the dragon eggs on the ground. As he touched one particular egg, his movements paused.
This egg had a small hole, clearly pierced by something.
Through this hole, Jie Jie glimpsed the texture of life within.
It was slightly green—apparently, the new hatchling was a Female Fire Dragon. This hole was likely made by its somewhat pointed chin, giving it an advantage when breaking out of the shell.
Placing that egg aside, the hatchlings would spend hours gathering strength for their first strike. The Fire Dragon’s eggshell protected against many predators, but it also made hatching a significant challenge.
Such is life.
Jie Jie shook his head and climbed onto the Fire Dragon’s corpse to begin processing it, prying open the cracks made by the Black Wolf Bird’s beak to remove the shell.
The two baby dragons had cast off their earlier fears. They climbed onto the corpse, playing and releasing their abundant energy, occasionally opening their mouths wide in anticipation of feeding.
Perhaps the presence of a fallen comrade carries a sense of caution, but once that wariness fades, hunger takes precedence.
Jie Jie had seen sparrows in cages pecking at the skulls of their own kind. Hens have been known to eat broken egg yolks for sustenance.
Even sows, lacking nutrients to produce milk, would eat piglets to ensure the survival of the remaining ones.
Such is nature.
By the time all the Fire Dragon eggs had hatched, the Fire Dragon itself would be nearly devoured. Then, it would be time for an impromptu journey with these creatures.
As an omnivorous monster, even the Sky Dog Beast grew weary of just eating meat.
He stood up and walked into the nearby forest, looking for fruits or vegetables to gather.
There were also some tool plants worth researching.
The first thing Jie Jie picked was a large Paralysis Mushroom. In the game, hunters use paralysis mushrooms either on small knives or in bottles attached to arrows. After several hits, the paralysis value accumulates, leaving monsters temporarily immobilized.
Aside from hunter usage, the infamous Fanged Beast species, Peach Hair King and its subspecies, can emit paralyzing breath and… gas after consuming paralysis mushrooms.
Fanged beasts are truly terrible… Unpleasant memories resurfaced, assaulting Jie Jie’s mind.

When he mimicked Peach Hair King by holding the paralysis mushroom with his tail, he realized he himself was technically a Fanged Beast too?
Hmm, the five-limbed design of Fanged Beasts must surely be the greatest monster creation in this world.
Bringing the paralysis mushroom close to his face, he wondered: Can I really eat this?
With a monster’s immunity, eating random things rarely leads to death. Even if poisoned, they often effectively expel toxins through diarrhea and saliva.

Besides a tingling tongue, there wasn’t much taste.

The numbness spread throughout his mouth.
Here, Jie Jie stopped, finding a sharp stone fragment on the ground. He jabbed it into the paralysis mushroom, coating it in its juice. Wrapping it in leaves, he stuffed it into his pocket.
On his way, he picked up a few other items and stuffed them into his pocket.
When he saw an ancient bird perched on a tree, he retrieved the stone drenched in paralysis mushroom juice and squinted to aim at the bird.

The sound of the stone cutting through the air reached the ancient bird, which used its wings to deflect the stone and jumped down from the tree to escape.
“Tsk.”
Jie Jie didn’t feel discouraged and continued throwing stones forward.
A larger group of targets appeared in his line of sight, growling at him.

This time, the stone precisely struck a Thief Dragon, leaving it with a bleeding head coated in paralysis mushroom juice.
The Thief Dragon’s head twitched twice, though only briefly, confirming the effectiveness of the paralysis mushroom.
If accumulated more, the effect should be better, right?
Unfortunately, he lacked bottles or jars, nor was he skilled enough to create such containers from sand.
Of course, these items were easily found everywhere, so excessive storage wasn’t necessary—it would only increase his baggage.

After casually swatting away the Thief Dragons with some flying fruits, a series of insect chirps caught Jie Jie’s attention. Following the sound and subtle fragrance, he discovered the source.
The fragrance emanated from beneath a tree branch, where a massive beehive hung.

Wiping off the residual insects from the beehive, Jie Jie bit off a piece with his beak and placed it in his mouth.
What a rich sweetness! A touch of this drizzled on grilled meat would surely be delightful.
