Chapter 34: I Shall Nurture Your Wife and Child
“Roar~!”
The Black Wolf Bird raised its head, a pillar of fire erupting alongside its roar, but soon began frantically stomping its feet after scorching its throat.
After swallowing the Red Jade, the Fire Dragon didn’t grow in size, yet felt a surge of vitality rushing to his brain.
All traces of fatigue from consecutive battles and drowsiness from post-meal sugar replenishment vanished.
He felt ready for more combat! How exhilarating!
This was surely the boundless vigor of a Male Fire Dragon.
Moreover, the range of his fireballs had increased.
Jié Jié spat out a fireball, watching it gradually fly farther, only exploding after reaching an even greater distance.
Monsters’ fireballs often have significant range limitations; ground bombardments require flying at lower altitudes, while aerial pursuits are of little use.
The flight speed of the fireball also improved, allowing the breath weapon to support higher frequency attacks.
Wind blew from outside the balcony, brushing past the Black Wolf Bird’s eye sockets.
Its wings flapped powerfully yet lightly, the howling wind stirring up scattered debris.
As expected, flight capabilities were enhanced, and the Avial’s lack of stamina was somewhat compensated by the vigorous energy of the Fire Dragon.
A comprehensive upgrade meant that if facing a fully experienced Male Fire Dragon now, even fighting from the sky to the ground, there would still be a chance for battle.
The Guide Insects in the sky had already calmed down due to the subsiding aggression, their emitted light returning from red and blue hues to green.
He wasn’t yet an experienced kind, which made Jie feel somewhat disheartened but also indicated further potential for growth.
Hmm, there’s still plenty of room for improvement.
Other gains inevitably included—
The deep, smooth shell of the Black Wolf Bird turned rough and intense red, its long snout shortened into a triangular sharp beak.
The Wing Claws also turned red, with the fourth wing claw extending rapidly from the end of the Black Wolf Bird’s wings transforming into a wing bone. The magnificent wing membrane blossomed between the fourth and third wing bones.
“Roar!”
A roar filled with fervor and vitality erupted from the mouth of the Male Fire Dragon.
The Guide Insects in the sky wildly danced, their light changing back from green to red.
Jié Jié leaped out from the balcony, embracing this azure sky as the newly born Sky Lord.
With just one flap of his wings, he could ascend to considerable heights, making flying feel incredibly easy.
Let’s fly even higher.
Jié Jié flipped over in the air, raising his head, his gaze fixated on the very top of the Ancient Tree.
That height was exclusively occupied by experienced Male Fire Dragons.
Now that the defending veteran had perished, this height would be open to all Flying Dragons until Male Fire Dragons decide among themselves through combat, reclaiming the tree crown.
It can be imagined that many Male Fire Dragons will lose their wings for this.
At least, Jie, who first claimed this sky, didn’t care too much about it.
The New Continent is vast—Giant Ant Hill Wasteland, Coral Land Plateau, Dragon Crystal Land, and even farther Eternal Frostland and Gathering Demon Land—he wanted to explore them all.
Jié Jié had reached the height of the Ancient Tree canopy, where the altitude was high, the airflow strong, and the temperature much colder than below.
On the damaged canopy of the Ancient Tree lay a lake, surrounded by broken branches, carbonized trees, and rock structures.
This natural reservoir reflected dazzling sunlight, shimmering waves, yet remained unevaporated due to the low temperatures at high altitudes. It was truly beautiful.
Jié Jié landed on a branch by the reservoir, lowering his head to drink large gulps of water until he couldn’t drink anymore.
“Roar!”
An irritable roar interrupted the high-altitude tranquility and silence.
Jié Jié turned his head to see a Female Fire Dragon.
The spouse of the experienced Male Fire Dragon, if in the breeding period, should have Dragon Eggs or young ones in the nest below.
Memories of the deceased Male Fire Dragon surfaced in Jie’s mind.
First came to mind was the juicy, tender, flavorful, warm Fire Dragon meat, followed by the fact that the other had helped him deal with the Terror Tyrant and fulfilled his strong desires—
Jie’s heart was filled with gratitude, and gratitude should be repaid.
Fire Dragon brother, I shall nurture your wife and child.
Seeing that he just stared without responding, the Female Fire Dragon angrily roared again, the roar filled with intimidation.
She pounced toward Jie, attempting to drive away this strange Male Fire Dragon.
Hmm?
Jie flapped his wings upward, dodging the dive.
The Female Fire Dragon looked up and noticed how enormous the young dragon’s wings were, blocking the sunlight and casting a shadow over her face.
A familiar scent mixed with blood wafted into her nostrils with the wind.
It was the smell of her mate, whose blood was mixed with this dragon’s.
Jie dove down, claws scratching repeatedly at the Female Fire Dragon’s head, his massive wings continuously striking her wings, disrupting her flight rhythm.
The Female Fire Dragon had to descend, turning around trying to flee.
The Male Fire Dragon opened his mouth, and a fireball exploded on the Female Fire Dragon’s back. Already unstable, the Female Fire Dragon plummeted from the sky, landing by the reservoir shore.
“Roar! Roar! Roar!”
After hitting the ground, the Female Fire Dragon immediately let out a long roar, the sound echoing across the sky.
She was calling for her mate, whose duty during the breeding period was to patrol the territory, never straying too far even when hunting.
…
The long wind was silent, bringing no response the Female Fire Dragon hoped for, only her own retreat under Jie’s attacks.
Several times, Jie could have stepped on her spine and subdued her.
Though thinking “I shall nurture your wife and child,” Jie had no intention of following Wei Wu’s style.
Nor did he want the Female Fire Dragon to fight to the death and worsen his injuries, so he chose a battle aimed at driving her away.
“Your mate will no longer respond to you.”
Jie growled, the young and robust Male Fire Dragon spreading his wings wide, spewing flames from his mouth.
He was declaring ownership of this sky.
The prolonged lack of response drove her nearly to despair, and this action shattered the Female Fire Dragon’s heart.
She no longer had the need to hold on, turning around shakily and flying away.
“Is she gone?”
The direction the Female Fire Dragon flew towards was the distant horizon, where one could still see the mountain ranges at the edge of the Ancient Tree Forest.
Jie descended to the reservoir, finding the Fire Dragon’s nest on a lower level, and surprisingly, the Female Fire Dragon’s Dragon Eggs were still in the nest.
Not even caring about the eggs?
The instinct of the Fire Dragon prompted Jie to open his mouth towards these Dragon Eggs.
Fire Dragons have habits similar to lions; when a young lion defeats the old king, it often kills the offspring of the old lion in the pride, prompting the female lions to re-enter the estrus cycle to breed its own offspring.
The Female Fire Dragon leaving without looking back knew this point well—new Male Fire Dragons destroy her eggs, and since she had been out of estrus for some time, this Male Fire Dragon’s family would have none of her part.
And at this moment, Jie was indeed contemplating what Fire Dragon eggs tasted like, human thoughts and appetite pushing the Fire Dragon’s instincts further.
He wanted to try them roasted, steamed, and here were several eggs, enough for experimentation.
Naturally, the first step was to taste them raw; a Fire Dragon egg burst in his mouth, fresh egg liquid flowing from the corner of his mouth, dragging long threads of eggshell, but quickly sucked back in.
Just as Jie was about to taste another, one of the eggs in the nest gently shook.

When you see a mighty male fire dragon soaring through the sky, you can't confidently say it’s truly a fire dragon—because it might have been a rare silver fire dragon before you noticed it.
If you suspect it was a silver fire dragon, it could have been a spinosaurus even earlier.
When someone tells you it was once a spinosaurus, you still can’t be sure—because before others saw it, it might have been an elder extinction dragon.
You may feel certain it’s a flying dragon by now, yet you can't assert that either—because underground where you can't see, it might actually be an ancient mountain dragon.
So, what is it really?
In the beginning,
It was just a hairy spider.
