Chapter 22: Will the brute general encounter Miss Flying Thunder around the corner?
“Grunt!”
Feeling the warmth of Swift Dragon’s breath as it bit into the air, Jié Jié’s own breath grew scorching hot, finally transforming into flames that washed over Swift Dragon’s body.
But due to being too close to Swift Dragon, these flames surged back, burning his own cheeks.
In the past, the flames would rush out fiercely and vanish instantly, but now they surged back to roast him, making him very uncomfortable. The bloodstains on his dragon face were all scorched dry and curled up.
Stopping his breath weapon, he lifted a foot and stepped on Swift Dragon’s body, pressing down its still movable claws, keeping them away from his face.
“Roar-roar!”
Swift Dragon stopped its futile biting of the air and instead let out a loud roar. The volume at this distance was so great that Jié Jié was momentarily stunned, then pressed his head down again heavily.
With its blood-filled mouth biting Swift Dragon’s wing claw at the base while simultaneously tearing at its side.
Swift Dragon’s struggling strength was weakening, its vitality seemed to be gradually draining under his relentless bite.
Is it pretending to be dead to conserve strength?
Although he had never been tricked by such a move, Jié Jié was still very suspicious about this point.
Even lions use their full strength when fighting rabbits, let alone now when he was subduing a Swift Dragon whose body length appeared longer than his own.
Of course, this guy’s base was lower than his, so it didn’t look as big.
Jié Jié tentatively lifted slightly, the most sensitive nose of the Savage Jaw Dragon stared at Swift Dragon’s body. It didn’t struggle, but he could feel it quietly adjusting its angle for exertion.
He didn’t give another chance, not even adjusting himself to a more convenient angle because that would leave room for wrestling.
What Jié Jié hadn’t realized was that his previously red and frenzied eyes were now calm, a patience that wouldn’t appear in a Savage Jaw Dragon.
Should I bite Swift Dragon’s head?
No, the risk of being counter-bitten is too high. If my nose gets bitten through again, I really won’t be able to hold on.
Then, aim at this guy’s head and breathe fire again!
While pressing Swift Dragon with his clawed feet, he pulled his head far away. A clear flame burst forth from his throat, blooming in Swift Dragon’s desperate pupils.
Under the fiery cleansing, the fur on Swift Dragon’s head was singed away, gradually becoming grotesque and terrifying. But the tenacious vitality of large monsters allowed it to start wriggling desperately under the Savage Jaw Dragon’s claw.
Jié Jié spat out the last ember from his mouth, loosened his foot, letting Swift Dragon roll away, crashing into a nearby tree.
He saw Swift Dragon rolling and struggling but unable to stand up, looking panicked.
The tenacious vitality of predators at the same level had already been displayed on the Savage Jaw Dragon before, and now it was even more evident on Swift Dragon.
It’s over.
With respect for life, Jié Jié transformed from a Savage Jaw Dragon into a Black Wolf Bird, delivering four precise and swift pecks that ended Swift Dragon’s life.
Subsequently, he casually ate breakfast on Swift Dragon’s body while it was still hot.
“Roar…”
A low growl came from behind Jié Jié. He turned his head and saw the red brilliance swaying with the movement of the head.
Another Swift Dragon.
Summoned by the previous growl? Makes sense, Jié Jié remembered that Swift Dragons have social behavior that allows collective activities.
Kill it?
This thought made the vigilant eyes of the Black Wolf Bird turn cruel, after all, Black Wolf Birds are inherently brutal creatures.
But the alien soul within the Black Wolf Bird isn’t, at least, he doesn’t think he is.
“I can kill you, and I can kill you too!”
Jié Jié moved aside to display his spoils, opening his beak and emitting a sharp and ear-piercing roar.
And this roar was gradually turning into a deep roar, he transformed from a Black Wolf Bird into a Savage Jaw Dragon right in front of the Swift Dragon, answering the question of the complex smell here.
To prevent this guy from judging strength by size and thinking he got lucky.
Seeing the black Avial lift its head and directly transform into a towering Theropod, Swift Dragon’s shiny eyeballs widened in apparent shock.
The red brilliance turned, fleeing in panic.
Jié Jié silently transformed back into a Black Wolf Bird and continued pecking at the Swift Dragon meat, avoiding getting fur all over his mouth this way.
For some reason, the Swift Dragon meat tasted softer than when fighting it, feeling loose rather than firm when biting with his beak.
It’s somewhat regrettable that he didn’t find any gemstones in the Swift Dragon’s body. Apparently, gemstones aren’t present in every dragon’s body, perhaps they only appear after a certain age?
The Swift Dragon’s corpse was heavy, it’s impossible to carry the whole thing back, and he couldn’t eat it all in one meal. After having a full meal, he pecked open a good piece of meat, transformed into a Savage Jaw Dragon, intending to carry it while walking and eating along the way.
By this time, it was already dawn. Carrying the meat, he began climbing up the roots and slopes, planning to enter the Ancient Tree.
Following the winding paths inside the Ancient Tree upwards, he squeezed open the tree curtain with his body. The narrow path, while crowded, left moss and seeds on his fur.
As he moved, these mosses and seeds would also remain on other positions of the trees or possibly fall to the ground due to his body shaking.
Jié Jié quite liked this not-so-wide road for Savage Jaw Dragons; the trees brushing against his body felt like scratching an itch, which often became increasingly itchy due to attached substances.
The Swift Dragon spines stuck to his body fell off during the two transformations earlier, and the remaining spines took this opportunity to completely leave his body.
On this journey of rubbing against the tree walls, some road ends were invisible turns, giving a feeling akin to “mountains and waters seem to block the way, but suddenly there’s a village beyond the willows.”
Some visible turns actually led to dead ends when turned.
After several twists and turns in such dead ends, he found a wider and upward path.
Licking the Swift Dragon meat in his mouth, it was almost gone. Even though he could open his membrane to dissipate heat while moving, his mouth was getting drier and drier, and the Swift Dragon meat in his mouth had long been dried by the hot breath he exhaled.
Jié Jié didn’t stop his steps, just thinking about finishing the meat quickly and finding water to drink. If no water could be found, he would change form and continue moving.
But it looked like there wouldn’t be any large water sources on the tree, instead, the accumulating humidity made him feel even more stifling.
Just at this moment, he passed a corner and encountered a creature covered in silver-white color around the corner.
This creature walked on all fours, dragging a long and wide feather-covered tail behind it, which alone accounted for half of its body length.
And when it raised its head to look at him, its snake-like head had a piece of meat in its mouth, exactly like his.
It was a Flying Thunder Dragon.

When you see a mighty male fire dragon soaring through the sky, you can't confidently say it’s truly a fire dragon—because it might have been a rare silver fire dragon before you noticed it.
If you suspect it was a silver fire dragon, it could have been a spinosaurus even earlier.
When someone tells you it was once a spinosaurus, you still can’t be sure—because before others saw it, it might have been an elder extinction dragon.
You may feel certain it’s a flying dragon by now, yet you can't assert that either—because underground where you can't see, it might actually be an ancient mountain dragon.
So, what is it really?
In the beginning,
It was just a hairy spider.
